He looked great, made some fabulous throws but his receivers were either wide open or making great catches. The likes they won't make in the NFL. Just as Tua had his "great set" of receivers drop several passes that would have changed the outcome of that game, even with him not throwing his best. I like both qbs for great college players but I am not sold on either of them being a great qb at the next level, certainly not right away and not for a bad team. Luke Mahomes, the key will be where they go.

It is amazing right!?! Two super bowl wins, a lot of great games, two different styles of coaching. Billick has his flaws too, played his favorites, cost us games, just as Harbs. No coach is perfect, not even Billy B, but just as I like to see player development, I expect a coach to grow as well. Billy B grew as a coach, he is not the same guy who coached the Browns all those years ago. Harbs should grow and so far, he has not, maybe the Super Bowl win so early in his career has stunted him. Oh I know, he "changed" , willing to truly go running style qb as opposed to a pocket passer. But his ingame has not, Billy B's in game has changed over the years. He manages the game quite differently than he did as a coach for the Browns.

So I am watching The Hobbit, an unexpected Journey whilst I await the continuing journey of our Ravens. The quest will he harrowing for any Ravens fan, there will be loss, but great victory along the way if we, they stay faithful. A dragon awaits them at the end of their journey, no mountain of gold but a trophy of silver and diamonds is the reward. Along the way there will be skirmishes, such as today, a dangerous enemy who should not be taken lightly, for looks can be deceiving, right Bilbo!?! Watch for the sword to glow, look for the signs along the path to stay the course, don't let the outside in, and maybe, just maybe, your, our time will come once again....

There were some all time great games yesterday! It was a cool play, a take on the goal line Tebo jump pass, worked well, but then Bama can't cover nor tackle well..

Okay I'll play, this is easy you say. 54-13 the Ravens way....

Something Good Happening in College Park.

You should be watching the PSU vs Minnesota game! Great ball game! -
I agree and disagree Max, as papa said, sure, we can look at wins & loses, but a lot goes into each one. As Steve Young has said many times, sure, ultimately the quarterback is responsible for the Int, but in between, did the line block properly, the receiver make the right read, did the ball bounce off his hands, did he cut off his route or run the wrong one? It all depends on what say the head coach has in picking players and in some organizations, even his staff. Look at the Bengals, Brown usually chose the staff based on how much he would pay them. He historically under paid scouts and even then, discounted their advice. The result? Years of terrible teams, first round loses when they did manage to play well enough to make the playoffs. But getting players to play hard, calling the right play, offense or defense, is only a part of coaching. Harbs is good at galvanizing his players. However, his in game coaching is terrible, has been since day one. So either he refuses to leqrn how to manage the game better or he just can't figure it out; bad at that coaching level. His teams are always, it seems , among the top teams in penalties, costly, untimely ones that cost the team games. Simple ones; false start, off sides, too many on the field, delay of game, roughing/personal foul to a lesser degree. Now the CBA prevents him from acting on those penalties to a certain extent, but there are still things he could do, yet fails to do so. Sure, we could have a horrible coach, Marchebroda anyone, his second stint with this team, but I also think we cpuld do better, won more games if not for him. Maybe it is a wash, I give him credit for embracing the changes this team needed to make when they drafted Lamar, let us see if they give Lamar what he needs, player wise, gping forward. They failed Flacco in that regard, terrible drafting at wide outs and offensive line. Joe is a picket passer, they never gave him a pocket...

Ya know, when teams start talking about avoiding a trap game, snap, they are caught.... They should crush the Bengals, their line is terrible, running game in shambles.. Their secondary can't cover, their defensive line undisciplined, linebackers unware... But....... An inexperienced qb, you know, the type this defense tends to make look like Tom Brady (in his youth, or is that yuts) They may need to call up My Cousin Vinnie and see how not to underestimate people.... How to get positraction, even when things get uneven... Step on the gas, leave nothing but skid marks of the Bengals.... Too uneasy, hope I'm wrong, but I see a tough game...
-
Eh, what's that new term now? Load management... Yanda, I think it was, had an "illness" he picked up from his kids... Maybe Lamar caught it too...

Cleo had the advantage of knowing what was coming.....

Cam took his beating in the pocket, from hanging onto the ball too long, from being able to shake loose from sacks to continue plays. Sure, he ran, and took a shot or two but most of his injuries, the shoulder, the foot, the ribs, were inside the pocket. Lamar so far has not faced those types of sacks nor after throw hits like Cam did, shall we say. He is elusive enough and "wirely" enough, I think his tendons and ligaments are made from high grade eleastic, to avoid the big hits outside the pocket. Sure, one game is likely to be the one where he does, but the question is, will the line hold up to keep him from taking those major in the pocket hits? Especially while throwing... Carolina let him down with their line, let us hope, the book ends don't cost too much for EDC, to keep

I hold my breath and say; "please don't fumble" every time Jones decides to field a punt or Moore returns a kick...
-
Eh, he has six fumbles in six years total, as a wideout, kick & punt returner. Same number as Mark Ingram, per average. Same as Jones but as I said, he is far more versatile than Jones; he can play wideout, he returns kicks with speed & quickness. Jones never could return kicks only punts, and he can't play defense. This was an Ozzie keep all the way, Bama boy....
-
Harbs backs up what we have been talking about, so we have a new kick return man as well, Moore wasn't good enough either. This signing could be a great springboard...
-
But he is faster, a good catch set of hands and adds quickness to the receiver core. He has better judgement on punt returns than Jones does, so this was a good choice to sign. My issue is why keep Jones, who is terrible in defensive coverage over Canaday, who is a little better than Jones, though neither is good enough to be in the 5 nor 10 coverage.

His foot is not healing quick enough.... They want to give him more time to properly heal.... Um, ok, is this just a move to let Allen keep playing, to avoid the obvious question about when Cam will play? If he will if Allen keeps winning? Is this a prelude to them releasing him next year or trading him?
-
Well, looks like Jones's time as a returner are numbered. A possible great signing by EDC, thanks for the link Grub!

They should destroy the Bengals this weekend, but will they over them for the tough game against the Texans the week after? Icarus, don't fly too close to the sun... This weeks word is Icarus.....

Baker is the better choice, the issue is the coaching. Most qbs go through the sophmore slump, but most don't have the weapons he has right now. With better coaching, play calls, Baker will be fine; problem, he plays for the Cleveland ownership..
-
Eh, coach's have favorites, and while I agree, there currently isn't anyone on the team better, there has to be someone on the market better at punt returns. At this point all he does is return punts or try to, so cutting him and getting someone who only does that too is no roster spot loss. This is a front office call, he is an ex Bama player, and Ozzie fav because he thinks they can revitalize his secondary career. Enough is enough, if this team is going to move forward there has to be accountability for these mistakes if this team truly wants to be an elite team. The window is not very big, Lamar is likely to command big money, cap killing money in a few years. But that is anothe discussion.. This is about not getting too high on them selves and overlook teams like the Bengals, just as they did with Cleveland. It's about knowing their limitations and staying focussed, unlike they did against KC. Those are two games they should have, not could have, won.

Ok papa, just like nobody could outplay BJ Sams.... I saw them out play him at camp, yet Sams got the job anyway... We see everything, we are everywhere!
-
They don't have the depth at the defensive line, one injury to the offensive line and this team is toast. But if they stay healthy, this offensive line will play more consistently like they did last night. But it is a nice run so far, surprising wins...
-
Well, let's leave it as he is the front office's favorite, thus nobody will replace him.....
