RSR on Treadwell: http://russellstreetreport.com/2016/01/18/tale-of-the-tape/laquon-treadwell-strong-hands-effort/

Some additional thoughts on the Davis signing: Look at AJ's tweets. This was the sort of signing we needed to make to send a message across the league, and to our own guys, that Baltimore is serious about winning. Don't make this singing and it looks bad that we let the HR champs of the past two seasons walk. That would have been too big a hole to fill, and by not going for a total rebuild in the vein of Chicago or Houston, we would be a perpetual state of mediocrity.

I'm not worried as much about the bats now. As far as lead off I think we have two really good candidates: Rule 5 pick Joey Rickards has a high career OBP and steals bases. LJ Hoes doesn't run as well, but he gets on-base and is a smart runner with average speed. Rickards could start in RF and lead off, and Hoes/Kim could start in LF and bat second. Manny is our best hitter and needs to hit third. Bat Crush fourth, AJ fifth and Wieters sixth.

Yes! Welcome back, Crush!

Yes, it's a front office problem. We have historically picked WRs that don't fit our system. In Chicago, Trestman had big receivers who can get downfield and high point the ball. Doesn't have that here. Cam Cameron's Air Coryell offense in San Diego also had big downfield receivers like Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd. He never got that here. The best utilization of talent we had at WR was with Kubiak's offense and the play action. Look at the Steelers: Holmes, Wallace, Sanders, Brown, Wheaton, Bryant, and Coates. Speed, speed, speed! All guys in a similar mold who play fast and can get in and out of cuts. The Steelers teach them from there. The Steelers drafted all of these guys. Even with a deep receiving corp, they drafted Sammy Coates in the third round last year. He didn't get PT this season, but he's going to be waiting in the wings. While guys like Derrick Mason, Anquan Boldin and Steve Smith have been great, we have used these vets as stop gaps neglecting to prioritize receiver early in the draft. In addition, throw in poor vet stop gaps like Jacoby Jones, TJ Housh, Donte Stallworth, Kelley Washington, Kevin Johnson, Frank Sanders and Marcus Robinson, and we have failed to develop an identity at receiver. These type of past-their-prime warm bodies don't allow much room on the roster to draft young guys and give them PT. You don't see the Steelers making these sorts of WR signings.

Ravens will draft a stud CB if they want to
thundercleetz replied to TBird's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Treadwell is still my choice is Ramsey if taken. TDs win games, and Treadwell gets lots of them and we have a QB to throw him the ball. A defensive lineman and/or pass rusher can only do so much. Look at JJ Watt in Houston. As good as Watt is, look at the impact Hopkins has had on games with a terrible QB. If Houston ever gets a good QB, Hopkins will be unstoppable. The Ravens need a #1 receiver like Treadwell. Treadwell's skill set is also the perfect compliment to Perriman. -
I'm not worried about the moving around. Cespedes had a cheap contract, and he got traded from contender to contender who failed to meet expectations (Oakland to Boston to Detroit). That's what happens when you're a good player with a cheap expiring contract. Happened with Tex before he signed with the Yanks. My concern with Cespedes is he is limited to LF. We already have two other guys, Hoes and Kim who are pretty much LFs only as well (Hoes can play RF but is better in LF, Kim can play 1B but his bat doesn't project there). Cespedes can play CF in a pinch if AJ needs a day off, but it shouldn't be a long-term play there. Regardless, we have struggled to get any production out of LF for years, so he would be a major upgrade.

No. I am not. I like Bobby Engram a lot. I think he has a lot of coaching potential. He is a player's coach and is well spoken. This problem goes a lot deeper than the WR coach. We haven't developed a receiver in 20 years. It's an organizational problem. Look at David Shaw, head coach at Stanford. He was our WR coach under Billick. He got hammered for being a bad coach. Receivers didn't do this, didn't do that and everyone said it was his fault. That didn't stop him from becoming a top head coach in college football, turning down NFL head coaching interviews. No one would say Stanford receivers are poorly coached.

O's rumored to have offered Cespedes a 5-year contract in the $75-90M range. I don't know if it is serious or leverage against CD. Cespedes would be a monster in Camden Yards. Also, no draft pick required because the Mets acquired him midseason. Maybe that's why he got an offer over Upton. Cespedes might be less risky than Davis. Monster year last year, should be a 4 WAR player. Defense is average. About a week ago AJ tweeted at Cespedes. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14571920/baltimore-orioles-make-contract-offer-free-agent-outfielder-yoenis-cespedes

Michael Thomas, WR Southern Miss http://mattwaldmanrsp.com/2016/01/05/rsp-film-room-no-69-s-miss-wr-michael-thomas-sleeper-alert/

That is interesting thanks for posting!

My post wasn't directed at Papa. I tend to agree with Papa that it is a bad contract, but I feel we had our hands tied. Now, we have our hands tied once again.

Very cool I'll check those out later. Btw... Does anyone know what those boxes are the mourners are sitting in? Is that a specific tradition? I know Lemmy himself was agnostic.
-
Good speech at Lemmy's funeral, especially for any wrestling fans out there:
-
Very well put!!! The cool thing about Lemmy is he didn't consider himself a metal guy, he always saw himself as a punk rocker. So not only was he an inspiration to the metal bands you named above (and many more), he had the respect of the punk community for being a musician and inspired punk rockers as well. The other thing I liked about Lemmy is he had a huge heart. As much as he was portrayed as being a badass, he was still a gentleman and cared about his fans and the less fortunate.
-
No RIP for Lemmy from Motörhead?

It has nothing to do with how much Joe likes it here or his agent, restructuring is a no brainer for both of them. Joe gets a check and added length to his contract, and his agent gets a fat commission check too. Joe has all the leverage. He will probably even receive a pay raise to keep him in line with the most recent QB contracts. The Ravens have two choices: restructure and give Joe a slight pay raise, or keep the contract as is. It's a win-win for Joe, it's a dangerous game for the Ravens.
-
Agreed Pacman is either exetremely stupid or full of shit. It doesn't matter if AB faked the injury or not: an injury has no effect upon a penalty being called. And why the hell would Brown fake a concussion knowing he'd have to sit out the final drive?
-
Exactly. Which is why restructuring is terrible for a team long-term. McNair got a couple big checks out of it.
-
Papa... Tennessee wanted McNair to take a paycut. I specifically said in my post no paycut. Additionally, McNair's contract had already been restructured. Sure, he got traded, but by then he had already collected two big checks and double dipped with the Ravens. That situation shows the danger of restructuring contracts. Eventually you will get to a point where the player is no longer useful, and you have to eat the dead money. It's simply a matter of now or later.

I cannot wait for tomorrow night! Ridley gave Hargreaves fits. If Alexander can contain Ridley he will make himself a lot of money and might leapfrog Hargreaves. Ridley-Alexander is going to be one hell of a matchup. Anyone who wants to see a potential Raven, tune in to watch Alexander. -
This tweet sums up the game for me: @stoolpresidente: I honestly wouldn't judge a Bengals fan who quit being a fan tonight. It was that bad
-
Completely agree. Last night was an embarrassment for the organization and the entire city. From the penalties, to the constant fighting, to the fans throwing stuff at Ben and on the field after the game. Burfict is a dangerous player. He's going to kill someone and needs to be suspended. There was absolutely no excuse for that last hit on AB. It was a blatant late hit leading with the helmet with no effort to stop, move out of the way, or turn his helmet away. When you have a running back fumble the ball with the lead and less than two minutes left in the game, and that turnover is not even being discussed as a top five reason for your loss, you know there's a problem with how your team plays football.
-
Burfict is a spectacular player but he's out of control. Probably just cost his team the game. WOW another penalty. Cincy doesn't know how to act in these situations. Complete choke job.
