Good write-up, Max. I miss the Ravens and football too. I also miss all the action that usually is happening here on the board. I have some hope they might get this resolved in the next 3 weeks before the court rules. If they don't, I guess we're going to miss some games at least.

There won't be a settlement until at least the appeals court rules on the lockout. The hearing is in early June but the decision probably won't be announced until late that month or early July. Then, I think, talks will begin in earnest.

Pretty much agree with everything you said. The first two picks can't be criticized unless Jimmy Smith gets in trouble. Not sure what to think of the OT in the 3rd round. Just seems like a reach to me. Doss was a good pick. After that one, I've got a feeling we can write off the rest of the draft. We needed a lot this year. I think we still need an OT unless Reid is a lot better than I expect and as you mentioned we did nothing for the pass rush. It was probably too much to ask to be able to address all our needs in this one draft. If Kindle can play that would help a whole bunch. But the silence around his prospects of playing is disheartening. I hope he can play. The other problem is the lockout---its going to interfere with these draft picks getting up to speed no matter how good they are. Whenever the dust settles on the labor front, the teams are going to need some real training camp time but they may not get it if this drags on into September. Still, the Ravens draft came out with real playmakers in the CB and WR positions. Thats a very good thing.

I'm glad that Harbaugh is saying all the right things. Right now its the off-season and who knows what's going to happen with the labor dispute. Right now, what Harbs says is all we have to go on. I'm sure glad he isn't saying all the wrong things. Sometimes Preston is more annoying than insightful.

This has been a good thread. I agree with those who say we have to look at Joe's very low interception rate, the offensive line protection, and, of course, the routes Cam has the receivers run. I will say that Joe could possibly throw the ball the away a LITTLE more often rather than take a sack. Our receivers patterns are too similar. While we shouldn't give up on the long ball, we have got to use more slants and picks and better executed WR screens.

McGahee's age and salary are going to get him cut---but the Ravens still have a good shot at bringing him back at a lower cost when he becomes a free agent, if they want him. I'd rather have McLain back to block for Ray Rice and Flacco.

I'm not sure if either the union or management is sincere at this point. I think they've both dug in their heels. Getting a mediator is better than nothing and at least they're still talking but I suspect its just a PR move. Like Papa said, if they were serious they would have tone to an arbitrator not a mediator. I hope I'm wrong and they do have an agreement in a week or two. As for Miller, I disagree with a lot of what he says. The salary cap is what keeps football competitive between franchises. If baseball had one, small market teams would have more of a chance to win than they do now. On the other hand, baseball players, before free agency, were treated like cattle. In football, the combination of a salary cap and free agency after a few years seems fair to me to both sides and has been very successful to the popularity and wealth of the league owners and players alike.

Reading your listing of WRs we've drafted makes me want to puke. With the possible exception of Reed whose value is still unknown and Clayton who was only average, what a bunch of losers we've drafted. And as has been said, Dickson and Pitta should have gotten much more work.
