Weddle is a liability out there. The only reason he's playing is the knowledge he passes on to the rest of the secondary. Safety play on this team needs work. Mosley is a better than average LB but not by much. He doesn't earn the big bucks that will get thrown at him from other teams. This is his last year as a Raven.

Lamar should start. Lamar should play. Joe is going to have to wait and see if a situation develops where he might be needed to go in. It's mostly Lamar's team now.

Baltimore Ravens: Marty Mornhinweg has outstayed his welcome
oldno82 replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
They have to have an effective passing game and Lamar needs the reps as well. Can you imagine how potent this offense would be if it had an average passing attack to go with its monster ground game? -
Great game! Super effort by our guys. I didn't expect this to be a win or even close and we almost pulled it out. Lamar and the running game were spot on. Good game plan. Good defense. We are about 2 playmakers short of being a contender. Losing is lousy but it could have easily gone the other way. Hope Lamar is good to go next week.

Unfortunately, looks like he becomes a free agent in 2019.... https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/baltimore-ravens/

Not to add to the controversy but I'm beginning to wonder if the best qb on the team right now is...RGIII. He seems mobile, poised, accurate, and confident. It may be more important to keep him for next year at least to continue to mentor Lamar. Make Joe a post June 1 cut or trade? Flacco gave us 10 mostly pretty good years and a championship but I fear he's becoming increasingly fragile as he ages. He's had significant injuries the last three seasons...knee, back, and now hip.

If the Ravens win 9 games with the tough schedule they've had, I'd bring Harbaugh back. But, I strongly believe that the FO needs to get its shit together. In their defense I will say they had a strong draft class this year so maybe they are improving.

They sure as hell are more entertaining than they were a month ago.
-
Lets see how the next 4 games shake out. With me, right now, he's on the bubble.

Lamar is a rookie and has a lot to learn. Right now he makes typical rookie qb mistakes. After he has his first injury he's either going to have to learn how to pass in a consistent manner or he won't make it through his rookie contract without being cut. I sure hope somebody in the F.O. or coaching staff is aware of the risks he's making running 17 times a game and is going to take him under their wing. IF he'll listen.
-
That's the new identity. Lamar needs a lot of work on his passing game but his running ability is terrific. It'll be that way until he gets injured which is only a matter of time. He needs to listen to RGIII more.

If the Steelers lose tonight we’ll be a half game behind. Glad the Browns lost. They are having growing pains too but are still tough.

Those were my thoughts exactly.

It's going to tough tomorrow. The running game has to click to keep Ryan and Co. off the field and wear down the defense. In that regard I agree with the above comments about the running game. But if they stack 8 in the box, Lamar is going to have to pass more to open the run game up. We'll see if he's developed enough to pull that off.
-
For once I agree...I was definitely hoping we'd sign Brees back then and I think we'd have had more SB Championships.
-
It would be possible but dumb on anyone to take on that contract. But there are plenty of quarterbacks playing 1st string who aren't as good as Flacco so who knows? If we intend to move Joe, I'd like to see us keep RGIII. Never thought I'd say that a few years ago but things have changed drastically.

Yep anything can happen this Sunday...Falcons game may come down to a FG or we may get blown out. But I'm hoping for a Lamar win and a Steeler loss. Besides Lamar I'm also looking forward to see Gus the Bus run.
-
Put me in the Lamar camp.
-
...that the Browns win the division this year. They have finally found out how good they are and Mayfield is a superior quarterback to any other in the AFC North. So if they get hot, watch out!
-
They'll probably claim that Joe 'isn't quite ready yet' and let Lamar start. Even if Joe is ready they may say that. The guy hasn't practiced in 2 weeks. Meanwhile Lamar has provided some real entertainment along with Gus the Bus. And I like the idea you mentioned about a ground and pound ball control offense keeping the the hot opposing offenses off the field. Start Lamar and use him sparingly on the run and use Gus as the guy who hopefully wears down the Falcon defense. Now I don't believe that means the offense goes into a shell. Mix up the runs with passes but keep the ratio in favor of the run. Agree that if they win with Lamar it'll be his job to be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season provided he can stay healthy.

Spen and Max both make good points. How much pain would the fans endure before it turned around? And what's to say they just wind up like the Browns used to be: weak every year for a decade? I don't think the fans would give the team that long to return to being a contender. But some type of creative rebuilding is necessary. I don't pretend to know how to achieve that but it is possible. The Pats and Steelers are good at it.
-
That's the big downside to making the playoffs. The team needs a major rebuild and needs to shed some contracts. The only way to postpone it is they make a deep playoff run with what they've got. It will be interesting to see if Lamar gets players playing better all around. Wouldn't that be something?
-
I think the Browns game and Falcons games are far from a lock. If they make it to 8-8 that's what I expected. Maybe Lamar can give the whole team a jolt...I think that's their only hope of making the playoffs.
-
Well they've got to run the ball against those teams for sure. Gus should be able to carry a heavy load. I really like that guy.
