  1. I see your point. I guess I just figure Lamar will never be a good pocket passer and will always want to run it himself first. What worries me is having a pocket passer as a backup and running 2 completely different systems. However, and unfortunately, I think it's just a matter of time before Lamar gets an injury that takes away his unique running ability and kills the run-pass-option system. Then we're stuck with neither a good pocket passer or an uninjured guy to run the rpo offense. Sooooo I guess you convinced me. Now the question is where do you find a decent pocket passer who's willing to be a backup in an rpo offense?
  2. What do you not like about having RGIII as the backup qb?
  3. when the Ravens end of season press conference will occur? I imagine after Harbs gets his extension...but maybe not?
  4. Gus is good. He should stay. The other running back can be a late rounder. 2 OG's and a C are the priority without a doubt. I don't know how we're going to get better receivers but we could use them. Edge rusher and Safety are middle priority needs but needs nonetheless. Da Costa will be burning up the phone lines no doubt. I'm hoping we can get a second round pick for Joe and maybe an additional late round pick. A rarity for the Ravens will be that they have to and can compete in the FA market.
  5. Well for once we will have some decent cap space. Hopefully we can find a WR1 there or in the draft in a mid round pick. Unlikely but possible. And Yeah, the OL is the really big issue this season.
  6. Marty is not coming back. Some more news: https://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-ravens-greg-roman-offensive-coordinator-20190111-story.html
  7. "...How much will Jackson’s playing style impact how the team is built? The Ravens will need to fit pieces around Jackson that compliment his unique skill set. Big, physical offensive linemen who can protect Jackson as both a runner and a thrower will be a requirement moving forward. Having wide receivers who can accept fewer targets than they might get elsewhere, and who are willing to block and catch passes over the middle, will become a bigger priority. With Jackson running the football frequently, having a dependable backup quarterback is also important, which could factor into the Ravens’ desire to keep Robert Griffin III. Baltimore did an impressive job changing its offense dramatically midseason once Jackson took over as the starter. But the Ravens now have a full offseason to plot their offseason philosophy, and to pursue players that fit."
  8. I agree. I just hope Lamar has some untapped passing potential we haven't seen yet. He's a very talented runner and leader but his passing is erratic and his ball security is poor. I love the kid and hope he works out. Right now, when you think about it, he's the only QB we have. They should re-sign RGIII who has handled himself with class and shown a lot of promise as a QB for us the times he's played. We need to vastly improve the offensive line so Lamar has time to throw when he does sit in the pocket. They should keep Snead. Maybe Smoke too. At least that's how I feel now.
  9. Spen, I almost ruptured myself laughing at your spot on comments! I They were so funny I even told my wife about them,
  10. The usual tough end of season decisions. I'd keep Snead and Koch. And probably Zadarius. The others I would reluctantly let go.
  11. Could be that the plays called were from a winnowed down playbook. After all, Lamar is a rookie and hasn't much time to absorb all the plays yet. I didn't see any draws or screens or even slants being called and that is on Marty. But in all fairness, Marty did make some great calls during the 7-1 stretch run. Next year Jackson will be more acclimated to the playbook. But it is asking an awful lot for him to improve his accuracy, do better on ball security, change his throwing mechanics, and give up the philosophy of him running so much. That's a lot to swallow in one off-season. But, he is a very hard worker who wants to do better. Maybe he'll swing it.
  12. I think Jackson will work extremely hard to succeed but it won't be easy or problem free. Then we've got Preston harping on the idea that accuracy can't be taught. I don't know about that but if Lamar ends next season injured or unimproved we'll be looking for a franchise qb yet again.
  13. Dressing up Lamar like a stereotypical thug carries some racist undertones to me. He's not like that at all.
  14. Tough choice but while RGIII would be a fine backup it's definitely true that Lamar needs some intense teaching for the pocket. I'm not sure who would be available to mentor him as a pocket type passer. I think that's more up to the coaches to drill him on. So bottom line for me is that I dunno at this point but I'd be leaning for also getting a young qb who's shown some promise as a pocket passer and who can back him up. Lamar won't last a whole more season running the way he does now. Of course, carrying a pocket passer as your backup also means the team has to practice both types of offense. I'm really up in the air about this.
  15. Absolutely feel the same way! Lamar will take big steps forward this off-season and come back a better passer with better ball awareness. Might not be next year but very very soon the Ravens will be back in the Super Bowl.
  16. I find it an offensive photo edit.
  17. I'm hoping we keep Wink at least one more year. He's one of the few protagonists of the 'organized chaos' method that is still in coaching what with Pagano and Ryan in exile. Harbaugh has done an amazing job this year since Joe got hurt. Probably his finest coaching year ever. I have had to reconsider my opinion about him and he's been at least temporarily removed from my shit list. In fact, depending how deep we go in the playoffs he could well turn out to be deserving of another extension. Speaking of goings and comings, I'm hoping now we can keep Mosley if he'd sign for a below market (slightly) price. He really can't cover but he's got great leadership skills and that counts almost as much as talent because of its importance in forming the chemistry of a team.
  18. Need to give a shoutout to Orlando Brown: no sacks allowed in the 10 games he started...pretty damn good for a rookie 3rd round pick. Article on Ravens' website says team is feeling less pressure since they've gotten to the playoffs. While Harbaugh says there's been no dropoff in intensity I'm a little worried the team comes out flat for the Charger rematch. If that happens, Phil Rivers will eat them alive. Lamar was held to just 39 yards rushing against the Chargers. He's going to need to pass in a more balanced attack this week. Hopefully Dixon and Gus power the running game. As I was saying: https://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-ravens-lamar-jackson-wide-receivers-more-involved-20190102-story.html
  19. Another tough game coming. SD will be highly motivated. Lamar will have to pass more if the running game can’t click. We’ll probably need to pass to open up the run. Defense suddenly has secondary issues that must be addressed. But, I’m already happy with how this team performed this second half season. If they lose in a competitive game I can live with that. Of course I want to win and keep going. Our stadium crowd will have to be loud again and the team needs to be as pumped up as they have been since Lamar took over. I think it will be harder to keep the momentum going as the team reached its goal of getting into the playoffs. A letdown is a very real possibility.
  20. All I can say right now is 'PHEW'! Really happy for Lamar and for CJ; Mosley made the play that was needed. I don't even care if we lose next week, this game was our most exciting since the last Super Bowl.
  21. Lamar has enough talent and temperament to be coached on how to handle this.
  22. I'm ecstatic! Just blown away! I was wrong. Harbs should stay and so should all the other coaches. Please pass the Purple Kool Aid!
  23. I agree. And Spen is right too...they haven't really anything yet extension-wise..
  24. I can't believe it either! A stupid move right now. What's next...keeping Joe and his high cap numbers???
