Ravens only 2 players away from another Super Bowl
TBird replied to TBird's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Sorry, forgot the link. http://ebonybird.com/2015/01/27/baltimore-ravens-two-players-away-super-bowl-berth/?_mid=150326&_rid=150326.12609.428&cmpid=emc:fscom:nfl_ravens&place5 -
This article says we're a WR and a secondary guy away from another SB but it was written before Torrey and Ngata left. We're still Ok with Ngata gone but need more than 1 receiver now that Torrey is gone and I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie didn't draft any WRs or until the bottom round like last year with Campy. With Ngata gone, it wouldn't surprise me to draft another pass rusher in the first two rounds. WARNING: Flacco is only listed as an average QB.

Ravens want more fans at training camp- roll eyes.....
TBird replied to tsylvester's topic in Baltimore Ravens
ILMAO - They had 10,000 fans pr day or more at Westminister. They had the scrimmage on Fri nights which was nice and cool sitting under the trees with guys from the old RN2 message board just talking football. The game went from about 10,000 to 30,000 fans so they had to move it to the stadium down town. Westminister couldn't handle the traffic. I was at most of the practices since Ravens came here and many going back to the Baltimore Colts, One morning after practice and no one was there but me I was walking on the practice field taking pics and someone behind me yelled get off that field. It was Billick. I said sorry coach how about a pic. Security ran over to get me out of there but took a pic of the coach and me. He signed it a couple of years later at a Roosts bull roast. They stopped going to Westminister during the lockout so they told the college they couldn't do it there. They liked it at OM so much they stayed because they kept all their computers and equipment and what not there. They were growing out of the hotel up there and needed more space. It was a logistical nightmare. But they squeezed the fans out because of traffic probs at OM as posted above but a lot of teams are having it at the headquarters now for the same logistical reasons but teams like the Jets built a new $70M complex with 5.5 football fields and a mini stadium so their fans could still come to the practices. The Giants also built a new complex. When I retired, it was nice. I'd get up early and get some pan cakes at the Diner in Westminister, pluck my chair down behind the corner of the end zone where most of the action came with my car parked 20 feet away and spent the morning there. Then I came back and jumped in my pool. I'd like to have a little of what they're smoking right now with the above link-lol. -
Kiper begged Ozzie to draft Roddy White whom he left on the board.

Pierce nailed for DUI last night by Bmore County
TBird replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
It could also be a ploy to get people to thinking they want him but all teams bring a certain amount of players in to interview. They can't draft all the guys they're bringing in. At the combines they interviewed over 31 players, more than any other team. That said, this time last year they didn't bring in Zach Martin whom most of the fans wanted to interview because they didn't want him and wanted to go with Ricky Wagner. Ravens saw Zach as a RG anyway which is where he played in Dallas as we had Yanda who with Wagner formed the best right side of an oline in NFL according to football outsiders. -
Well, well - thank the Lord for the little things. Kendrick Lewis could have signed with several teams but chose Ravens after Micahel Oher texted his old college buddy to choose Baltimore and he did. I was always one of Oher's biggest critics since day one but he always had class and was a nice kid coming from the classiest family in the South. Looks like we owe him one and as he doesn't harbor any resentment after being cut by Ravens. Tenn cut him too. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/videos/videos/Michael_Oher_Sold_Kendrick_Lewis_On_Baltimore/8594055c-cbfa-4b96-9b3e-6c410f97ef64

Pierce nailed for DUI last night by Bmore County
TBird replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
The JAGs signed Pierce so there was still a market for him, at least in JAX. They were short a RB. All he needs now is a good lawyer but he's excited to go there and said God works in strange and mysterious ways. He is thankful. BTW, Ravens announced they're bringing in Mel Gordon for a second interview. With a spot open and Forsett being old, they might draft him. At least they're interested. He'd be a good fit for Ravens system and they could even break him in slowly and put him in spots. -
Most of the posters Im reading don't want him in the first round, maybe 3rd but he won't drop that far.
-
A lot of guys are posting the same about a RB in 1st round being a bad value where we could get one in the middle rounds ala Tally but they got Jamal in the first round. With Pierce gone and an old Forsett, Oz just might draft Gordon. He's going in the first round to someone between 20-30. I've seen Gurley going as high as Houston and he has an ACL so 2 RBs could go in the first round. They're that good and if Mel is the BAA and at 26 I wouldn't be surprised to see Ozzie draft him.
-
Looks like RB Mel Gordon is back in the pic for Ravens if he's there on draft day and he could be. After Forsett signed it didn't look like Ravens needed a RB but with Pierce, Oz might draft Gordon now. McShay said over a month ago he'd be a good fit for the Ravens system and one of the Ravens coaches was his college coach. Kiper's first mock had us taking him, but switched to Maxx Williams, TE in his 2.0 Mock. All that said, don't be surprised to see Ozzie take another pass rusher with Ngat's departure although the de-line is deep now after Guy and Canty were signed and Urban is coming back along with KLM. Both were injured for the entire year after showing much promise in camp last summer.

No we weren't. Bellicheat called his pal Ozzie and said Jones is on the phone. They want DEZ. Do you want to match their offer and Oz said no thanks so Dallas moved up and got DEZ who had a ton of red flags and was an embarrassment for a couple of years like getting arrested for beating up his mom and a disturbing the peace with a big party late at night and getting sued for millions for not paying his credit card debt. He finally grew up and turned into a legit # 1 pick but he kept Jerry up at nights. Ozzie could have had him but didn't want him./

I did a search on Ozzie's picks for 4th and 5th rounds and they've been a gold mine going back to the SB 35 team with Jermaine Lewis Jeff Mitchell as 5th round picks in 96 and 97 draft. I posted this on another board. I'm sure Ozzie will dig up some more gold from these extra rounds. Thanks Ngata. You did the Ravens a favor by not restructuring. ______________________________________ For anyone thinking a 4th, 5th or 6th ain't much just consider these as recent players drafted last year and going back to the Jeff Mitchell draft, our starting center on the SB 35 team drafted in the 5th round. Jermaine Lewis was a big hero in that game too drafted in the 5th round. More recently - 2014 draft. URSCHEL - 5TH ROUND PICK - PLAYED WELL AS BACK UP WHEN FILLED IN. CAN PLAY GUARD AND CENTER. HIGH HOPES FOR BEING FUTURE STARTER AT GUARD OR CENTER. TALLY - 4TH ROUND PICK - HAD IMPRESSIVE ROOKIE YEAR AS RB TIL INJURED AND WILL BE COUNTED ON IN FUTURE. SOME SAID HE MIGHT EVEN START. URBAN - 4TH PICK - HAD GREAT CAMP TIL INJURED FOR YEAR AND WILL BE COUNTED ON IN FUTURE. CAMPY - 7TH ROUND - CONTRIBUTED BEFORE GETTING INJURED AND IN POs WHEN HE CAME BACK. RAVENS COMPARED HIM TO EDELMAN. MUCH HOPE. 2013 - WHAT A CLASS KJ - 4TH ROUND - STARTING FB IN 2D YEAR. WAS BEST FB IN HIS DRAFT CLASS WAGNER - 5TH ROUND - OUSIDIERS SAID RAVENS HAD THE BEST RIGHT SIDE OF THE LINE IN NFL WITH WAGNER AND YANDA KLM - 6TH ROUND - HAD GREAT CAMP TIL INJURED FOR SEASON. STILL HI HOPES FOR HIM. 2012 ASA JACKSON - 5TH TYSON - 7TH 2011 MC PHEE - 5TH- A LOT WERE UPSET WHEN WE JUST LOST HIM TO BEARS AND $40M TYRON TAYLOR -6TH - NICE BACK UP QB FOR JOE IN 6TH ROUND 2010 PITTA - 4TH ROUND TAKE OUT HIS TD IN SB AND WE LOSE ART JONES - 5TH - A LOT OF GUYS DIDN'T LIKE LOSING HIM EITHER 06 KOCH - 6TH ROUND - ONE OF GREATEST PUNTERS IN NFL - SB HERO 05 JASON BROWN - 4TH - CENTER - DID WELL HERE AND WENT TO ST LOUIS 03 JARRETT JOHNSON- 4TH LB - DID WELL BEFORE GETTING BIG PAYDAY IN SD. JUST RETIRED OVIE MUGHELLI - 4TH ROUND - FAN FAVORITE AS FB 02 DAVID ZASTIDUL - 4TH - PUNTER CHESTER TAYLOR - 6TH - RB 01 HARTWELL - 4TH - LB JOE MAESE - 6TH - FIRST LONG SNAPPER IN GAME - I THINK. NOW A FIRE FIGHTER Id say these rounds have been a gold mine for Ozzie with more gold to come. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimo..._draft_history

Daniels got $12M for 3 years. That's a lot for an old man. So now we're down to just a healthy Gilmore and an injured Pitta and someone named Supernaw. Maybe Ravens will go after Maxx Williams, the best TE in draft. Ozzie has the ammo to trade up after the Ngata trade or trade down for Clive Walford, the 2d best TE in draft from Miami, plus he'd get another pick or two for trading down. Ravens used 2 TEs a lot last year in Kubes system.
-
Oz has been improving in the 2d round. We just lost Torrey from there, Rice was from there. We lost him too. Jernigan was from 2d round but so was Aaron Brown whom Oz traded up for but on draft day he was considered one of the best line backers in the draft. Last season there were still teams trying to trade for him and Oz said no. Somebody sure likes him.
-
Damn man - Dig this. Ozzie just rebuilt the entire team with this Ngata trade plus the comp picks he's getting from other players he previously lost. This was posted on another board. __________________________________________ Current Ravens 2015 Draft Picks (tradable) (not including compensatory picks or displacement due to compensatory pick placement, which begins at the end of round 3) 1st - #26 2nd - #58 3rd - #90 4th - #119 (Detroit)* 4th - #122* 5th - #150 (Detroit)* 6th - #188 (Dallas)*And Over The Cap Dot Com had us projected to get a 4th, and two 5th's for comp picks. So, that could be 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6 9 picks and those 5 picks in rounds 4-5 could be a big plus for moving back up in the draft to take a desired player. ____________________________________ Like a WR, RB, pass rusher - anything.
-
DET did it because they lost their other DT - Fairly-sp. Ngata was due $16M this year had he stayed. According to the CBA agreement with the union, the team saves about half of that if he leaves which is called dead money because it is still figured in the CAP but he isn't here. It's like paying alimony or interest on your credit cards. You hate doing it but you have to.
-
Thanks Caldwell. Giving him a job here just paid off. And don't forget this. Ozzie can now trade up for a pass rusher or maybe a WR like Jaelen Strong. They didn't have fifth and sixth round picks, just comp pics in 4, 5, 6, and 7. Now they have the flexibility to package these two with a regular pick in 2, 3 or 4 to move up if they like a player.
-
That's true unless somebody drops.
-
Im pretty sure it's $8.5M and Suggs just restructured so they saved $2M from that so suddenly they get $10.5M in CAP savings but they were $5.1M over the CAP til now. I'm hearing rumors that Ozzie got a 4th and 5th rounders from DET. That would indeed be a steal if true. They get nothing if he leaves w/o signing him.
-
I agree it hurts. He led us to the SB and 5 straight POs and 6 of 7. Losing McPhee and Ngata is one of the biggest FA losses in our history including losing Boldin who was also traded, Ellerbe, Kruger, Art Jones and JJ. Everyone is guessing Ozzie will get either a 4th or 5th rounder from Lions which would have been a steal had he just signed with someone else. Ozzie does well in the 4th and 5th round. I still say a pass rusher in the first round this year.
-
Aaron Wilson is reporting it. No details. Damn - Our first pick in the draft will be a pass rusher after losing Ngata and McPhee in the same week. Damn.
-
BTW, I don't think many fans will agree with him. Almost everyone wants one of the WRs that will be available even in the middle rounds.
-
Trestman was asked about the big bodied WRs he had in Chicago but he thinks Ravens don't have to add one in the draft or FA. Size doesn't matter. He pointed to Steve Smith's 1,100 yards as a small WR plus Antonio Brown with 1698 yds. Big things come in small packages and it's our job to coach them to do well with what we have. I'd still love a Jaelen Strong if he's there or a Maxx Williams at TE in the first. Rather than specifically seeking out a big-bodied target through free agency or the draft, Trestman stressed that he’s more interested in capitalizing on the strengths of the players he has across the board. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Do-Ravens-Need-Big-Bodied-Wide-Receiver-Trestman-Answers-/4819cdd2-f649-40b7-9511-5b855a9542bd

Brian McFarland was on 105.7 fm today saying that Ravens are currently $5.16M over the CAP.

If Melvin Gordon is available at 26, do you want Ravens to grab him?
TBird replied to Tornado700's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Mel Gordon has a Baltimore connection but if he's not there Raven could be interested in Yeldon in 2d round. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/videos/videos/Two-RBs-That-Make-Sense-For-Ravens/732a4ac1-3eea-40c3-9614-08cb82d2f114
