A Letter from Danny

They've gone after others successfully for years... this isn't new. The Indians have removed "Chief Wahoo" this year from most of their gear - a long, slow process.

Teams like the Illini of Illinois and others have faced challenges. The Blackhawks also face challenges.

The biggest "success" story for a team has been the Seminoles of FSU - who have an agreement with the official Seminole nation. I'm sure $$ is involved.

I would like to see him change the name to the "Washington Savages", or the "Washington Scalphunters" and see if they like that better.

Heck, just call them the "Washington Whiteskins" and you'll never hear a peep out of anyone.....

So ridiculous it's laughable, they might want to look in the mirror and see that they do have red skin, what are they ashamed of their color or their heritage ?

And before the 3 butt buddies chime in, I am 1/4 Cherokee Indian, so save it for the crapper....

They were called redskins because when Europeans first met them they were wearing body paint that was red.

Thats perfect... Danny Boy can go build a stadium on a reservation. Imagine all the tax money he could save. Have a casino right in the stadium, employ the "original Americans" to clean the toilets and serve drinks. Then he can write a letter to the season ticket holders saying he's doing them a favor.

I'm not going to stick around in this thread. It's an opinion thread so let opinions be opinions. But three parting thoughts:

1. If you actually read my post, you'd read that I literally said it had nothing to do with who finds it offensive. It has everything in my mind to do with institutional injustice. We erased a culture and nearly eliminated a race - in some cases we did entirely eliminate civilizations - but no one ever thinks about it. I think that's sad. We're taught to remember the Holocaust and the Irish Potato Famine and all these other injustices, but we turn native americans into sidekicks in movies and half-witted friends who need our help and ignore the realities of our history with them. As has been discussed in a different thread (not even on a Redskins topic), Andrew Jackson destroyed so many of these groups and we put him the $20. I simply think the name "Redskins" is another in a long line of Americans not even realizing or recognizing who they are.

2. If you think I am offended by you calling me feminine or insinuating I'm gay, that's fine. It says more about you than me. I honestly couldn't care less. I don't particularly care what a "tough guy" says is manly or not. In fact, as I said in my post, I view it as an issue of "right and wrong" more generally anyway. You did prove me wrong on one thing though, you jumped straight from step 1 to step 4.

3. I still don't understand why you seem to think you get to control who responds to you. While I can't speak for anyone else, I'm not seeking you out. This is all of the second thread you're in that I've responded to? But I must be after you. If you want a place to share your opinion without hearing others', a message board is probably not the place. Go start a blog. Even in a thread where my post was entirely on the substance of yours, you jump up as if we're about to throw down (woohoo!). Your post even included an attempt to incite, which I ignored. But apparently, now that we're "sworn enemies" of the message boards, anything I post that doesn't agree with you must be vanquished! This isn't a fifth grade playground. I don't have a nemesis. I was responding to a thread. Grow up.

1. Who do you think you're kidding.....You couldn't keep that pie hole shut if you had to....

2. And I don't know if you're gay or not, but you do give off a feminine disposition, so you tell us...

3. The reason I control you is because I am a puppet master and you are a puppet....

4. This isn't a 5th grade playground, so quit acting like a 5th grade geek .....

Now I said dance, puppet boy !!!!.....snicker...

I have lost. I concede. I have no recourse.

In fact, you were right - I couldn't even hold back from posting one more time.

But that was because I wanted to share with you that I'm removing my request that you not be banned. That is, if you will let me, Puppet Master.

I'm sure Dee will let you live long enough to get in one last good rant about how you hate women and blacks and gays. But maybe not.

Look at the flowers, OldSchool.

Was reading this:

Conjoined twins were at one time called "Siamese twins," named for two brothers, Eng and Chang Bunker, who came from Siam, the country now known as Thailand.

After appearing in circuses and sideshows all around the world, they settled in the United States and become successful ranchers. They had 21 children between them after marrying two sisters. The term "Siamese twins" is no longer used since it is considered racially insensitive. The Bunker brothers lived until 63.

and thought that maybe Danny could rename his team the Washington Siamese Twins and bring honor to Thailand while educating the masses about the forgotten history of Siam.

Will Sterling lifetime ban push Redskins issue to critical mass?

In the immediate aftermath of the release of Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s private racist rant, a former NFL team executive suggested that Redskins owner Daniel Snyder likely welcomes the distraction from the ongoing scrutiny of his team’s public and — in the opinion of some — racist team name.

The situations, on the surface, are inherently different. But as the NBA demonstrates that it has no tolerance for racially inappropriate comments made behind closed doors, the NFL continues to deal with a potentially racist team name hiding in plain view.

To no surprise, Oneida Indian Nation opted to use the penalties imposed on Sterling as a reason to draw more attention to the lingering controversy involving the Redskins name.

“In banning Clippers owner Donald Sterling, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and other NBA team owners have taken a courageous stand against racism in professional sports, acknowledging that professional leagues cannot be a platform to promote bigotry,” Oneida Indian Nation Representative Ray Halbritter said in a release. “In taking such appropriate disciplinary action, the NBA has shown leagues like the NFL that they have a moral responsibility to take disciplinary action against people like Dan Snyder, who also continues to proudly promote bigotry with the use of a dictionary-defined racial slur as his team’s name.”

While it’s unlikely that the Sterling situation will nudge the Redskins name controversy toward a critical mass, the unwillingness of the NBA to tolerate an owner expressing racist views behind closed doors highlights the question of whether and to what extent the NFL is willing to tolerate a situation where reasonable minds may differ on the existence of overt racism.

On one hand, the NFL is the ultimate reality show; having a year-to-year subplot regarding the potential change of the name of a team ultimately generates interest and discussion. On the other hand, the subject of that debate arguably doesn’t reflect well on the NFL, which eventually may have to explain why it allowed the debate to linger for as long as it did.

NFL Investigating Redskins-Themed Gun

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — An AR-15 assault rifle bearing the Washington Redskins name and logo was displayed at the Capitol Gun Show over the weekend.

The problem? The National Football League does not issue marketing licenses to firearms manufacturers.

The league will conduct an investigation into the apparent unauthorized use of team trademarks, NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello says.

Images of the gun appeared on a photo-sharing website on Monday.

Virginia-based gun retailer Terminal Performance was selling an apparently identical rifle for $1,999.99 at one point. The gun is currently sold out, according to the company’s website.

The company gave the gun quite the description:

“Angels will be heard singing ‘Hail to the Redskins’ in the background as you feast your eyes on this one of a kind tribute to our nation’s capitol home team. The National Football League’s Washington Redskins take center stage in an extraordinary custom AR-15 build. Decked out in burgundy and gold, this weapon system is a must for the Redskin fan that has everything. Nothing else like this ‘Skins carbine exists on planet earth, from the patented swirl-dipped color matching optic cover to the full length black widow rail. One look at this football themed rifle conjures images ranging from Sammy Baugh to John Riggins and the hogs; and from Darrel Green to RG3. Capitalizing on the legend of the Washington Redskins, This AR-15 has what it takes to honor the Super Bowl winning football team. Everything including the upper receiver, lower receiver, barrel, grips, stock and optic scream the burgundy and gold. As with all of our projects, this firearm is 5.56/.223 made with all American parts by American gunsmiths right here in Virginia.”

The NFL has no stance on ownership or gun control, but does have a policy related to firearms in the workplace. Such policies are commonplace in work environments.

Firearms are forbidden in every facility owned, operated or being used by an NFL club.

If the tribe does get the patent office to say they can't hold a patent on the name then these guys can make these as much as they like.
