A lot has to change....

But here are some things that have to improve soon before the Orioles dig themselves a deep hole in the AL East.
The club that led the majors in homers last season has just two right now, both by Nelson Cruz, who wasn’t with the team in 2013.
They’ve scored 11 runs total, an average of less than three runs per game. Meanwhile, they’ve given up 21.
Chris Davis and Cruz have combined for five of the team’s nine RBIs. Adam Jones, J.J. Hardy, Matt Wieters and Nick Markakis have combined for one.
Ryan Flaherty, who had a nightmarish start at the plate last year (0-for-17 with nine strikeouts), has not fared much better. He is currently 0-for-15 with seven strikeouts.
Of the Orioles' four pitchers to start this season, only Ubaldo Jimenez has gone six innings.
Those four starters have allowed 16 earned runs and 33 hits in 20 innings (7.20 ERA). What’s more, none of those 20 innings were perfect.
The Orioles have just two perfect innings pitched in their 35 this year. Relievers Zach Britton (seventh inning Monday) and Ryan Webb (seventh inning Friday) did it.

They need to get healthy in a hurry. Maybe today in Detroit.

Most of it will come around. It's been 4 games. Who cares, really.

I remain most worried about an offense that has NO ONE that can get on base at much better than a 330 clip. And that is a problem. We're watching Adam Jones dive at balls in front of the plate ... Flaherty can't even tell a ball from a strike, taking strikes and swinging at balls, Markakis has been ok but he's not walking like he once did, Cruz actually has three walks I think - but his rep is to take far fewer than that. I really don't know why Steve Pearce is on the roster.

Interesting Thought/Note:

Go look at Steve Clevenger's minor league numbers... I'll help you cheat a bit... over parts of 8 seasons in the minors (he is now 28 and has been splitting time in the majors since 2010): 311 Avg, 373 OBP, 428 SLG (800 OPS).

What?

Why isn't this guy at least getting his shot as a regular catcher (not over Wieters, but in general in the last 4 years)? He's also pretty darn decent with the glove.

Anyway... Machado will help a lot. Jones and Davis will hit. The offense will generally come around. But we've got a lot of dead bats that I think people overlook. It just sucks.

Like I have said I think last yr was Davis' outlier. I would have traded him this off season to some sucker team

Dude give it a break,

We r 5 games into the season, you don't unload your super star

Wieters is far from a superstar Crav. He's hitting well this season. He's the one shining star...him and Tilman. This team blows.

I think Crav was talking about Davis.

Either way, I disagree that Davis' year will be that much of an outlier. I think he'll hit into 40HR range... maybe not 50. Avg might suffer most. Machado will make a big difference either way

Manny will make a huge difference, I don't like what Buck is doing with Flaherty, the kid is suffering with the bat, and he's suffering with his field play. He looked way more comfortable last season at second base

Matt is going to fall off badly behind the plate in the fairly near future being so tall. He has not developed into the batter everyone thought he would so I would not bring him back when he gets to FA and they should look to ransom him to another team.

I want Wieters to start hitting as a righty only... He hits over 320 and slugs over 600 as a righty, every year.

Even if there's a dropoff(and of course there would be) it would be far better than his 210 as a lefty.

The ship is starting to right itself. It will, if the pitching gets their act together.
