thundercleetz Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 @Ravens: The Ravens have hired former Chicago Bears Head Coach Marc Trestman as the team's offensive coordinator. Discuss... Quote
thundercleetz Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Nice grammar by the team's official account btw. Edit my copy and paste messed up the grammar haha Quote
Robjr83 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Trestman seemed like the more safer hire. Heard he has a soft leveled demeanor which will match Joe. Quote
Robjr83 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I don't really like this hire. I'm not thrilled either....but I was thrilled for Cam/Caldwell and Kubs... 2 of them were bust so I'll just wait and see who we draft/sign in free agency to look at the offenses future. Quote
thundercleetz Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 I like the hire a lot. Outside of Mike Shanahan, which was unrealistic, this was the best hire out there. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I saw this elsewhere. Just heard he and Ozzie have a connection. He was an asst.coach w Cleveland during Ozzies final years as a player. It makes me trust the hire more. Quote
varaven45 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Trestman was an asst while Oz was a player in Cleveland ? That was about 30 years ago, right ? What does that make him; about 70 years old ? Just sayin:) Quote
TBird Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 He beat us the last time we played Chicago. His players likeBrandon Marshal swear by him. Marshal would love to follow himhere but he is signed and would be very expensive, CAP wisefor Bears to move him. Most of the guys on the boards are very excited. This is a continuation of Kube's system. The only criticisms I've read are he uses more shorter passes thanKubes but considering JOe's last long pass went tot he wrong guythat might be a good thing. The other criticism was that he doesn't know the ZBS but he has Castillofor that. Gase was interviewed and turned down again. Must be something about himand Manning calling his own plays. Also, Gase never played football, strictly a nerd and book guy but is really good. Gase was considered attop HC candidate and had several interivews but not hired. Quote
TBird Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 He's 59, not even 60 yet. Here's his bio from WIKI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Trestman Quote
Robjr83 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Lol guess who Trestman hired in CHI for QB coach? Wonder if he'll bring him over. Quote

oldno82 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Lol guess who Trestman hired in CHI for QB coach? Wonder if he'll bring him over. Hard to believe that MC is still around and working. Hoping we get a different guy for coaching qb's. 1 Quote
thundercleetz Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Lol guess who Trestman hired in CHI for QB coach? Wonder if he'll bring him over. That would be awkward, Cavanaugh was the OC at the University of Pittsburgh when Joe was there. Cavanaugh, working under then head coach Dave Wannstedt, chose to go with puny Tyler Palko as the starting QB and did not release Joe from his scholarship. 1 Quote
thundercleetz Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Interesting take: http://www.baltimorebeatdown.com/2015/1/20/7862111/ravens-hit-a-home-run-with-hiring-marc-trestman-as-offensive Also: @RavensInsider: Ravens have hired Marc Trestman as new offensive coordinator Trestman praised for cerebral approach to the game solid pick for sure @jeffzrebiecsun: John Harbaugh's brother, Jim, once said Marc Trestman "taught him everything" when both were Raiders assistants Quote
vmax Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 NO CAVANAUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NOT HIM!!!!!!!! 1 Quote
Robjr83 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 NO CAVANAUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NOT HIM!!!!!!!!It'll be great. If Trestman leaves we'll have a new OC in waiting. Quote
oldno82 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Right now I'm really lukewarm about this selection. I don't really know much about the guy other than he's a west-coast offense coach, so that's a plus. He's supposed to be good for coaching qb's too. But he'd better not bring Cavanaugh here (I can't believe this is even a possibility especially with his history with Joe and his blunder of not playing him!). I am concerned about what he does with the zone-blocking scheme because that was so effective for us with a journeyman running back. Maybe we'll know more when he's officially introduced. I hope he and Flacco get along as well as Kubiak and Flacco did. That part has me worried. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I don't see an issue from what 9 yrs ago? Quote
oldno82 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I'm not as optimistic about Cavanaugh. He was a terrible OC when he was here and most of us couldn't wait to get rid of him. Ravens' offenses sucked when he was here. But, maybe Trestman won't bring him. Oz might have a say in that too. Quote
TBird Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Don't worry, I read that CAV is being interviewed for Cleve's OC job. LOL I was wondering if JIM HARBs had any influence on this but alsoread that he was Ozzie's suggestion to HARBs. OZZIE alsosuggested Caldwell to him. Caldwell was actually on Ozzie's original long list of head coaches when HARBsgot the job, picked by Bisciotti, of course. Quote
oldno82 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Well, if Cleveland hires him it's a win-win for us. Sounds, then, like Oz and Harbs are on board with the Trestman hire.I read he hasn't used a zone-blocking scheme though. Our lineman did very well with that this year. Maybe he'll adapt? Quote
oldno82 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 One of the first things Trestman ought to do is start poring over the tapes of Joe from 2013 and 2014 and see what works best for him. Kubiak did a similar thing when he got hired. He ought to check out the zone blocking scheme we used to before he decides to just use what he's used to. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 But guys...the main thing here...what's going on with his eyebrows? Quote
