varaven45 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Is it me or are we watching the season premier ? This team is flat out listless and uninspiring to watch. I Keep looking for Rick or Daryl to show up in the games. Quote
dc. Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 No, you're right. It hasn't been fun. Though, the pitching is finally-mostly-coming along. Several great pitching performances. But the team feels flat and just not fun to watch. 1 Quote
GrubberRaven Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Maybe it's because their friggen GM is overrated and has his head elsewhere. I don't think the hitting coach is worth a shit either. Quote
dc. Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I disagree on Pressly, the hitting coach. I also disagree on Duquette but agree about his distracting this season. Meanwhile, VA - another win after a gripe! Do it again!! ;) Quote
Spen Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I sometimes get sour early but for some reason I still think things will be ok. Quote
cravnravn Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I'm sticking to the theory that after the all star break we'll be fine. But it sure would have been nice to have Cruz and Miller back in the nest. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 The thing that stings the most about Miller is what we gave up. I'm fine with not resigning him. E-Rod, has had two solid games...let's see how the he looks at the end of the season to declare it a bust. The thing that pisses me off the most with this season is how we've regressed (sans Jiminez). Duquette added warm bodies...no talent. That pisses me off to no end. Presley isn't who I was thinking of. Who's the guy who played for the Texans and was Davis' hitting coach there? Quote

Miller was our best player last post season hands down. If the O's won the WS last year, no one second guesses the trade even if E-Rod wins multiple Cy Young Awards. My frustration with the Miller trade is we always seem to trade the wrong guy. We trade E-Rod, keep Bundy and Harvey, and both guys get hurt. Another thing is E-Rod was a B-level prospect for us. Many scouts saw E-Rod as another Radhames Liz. Heck, lots of scouts didn't even project him as a starter. IMO, this highlights a problem with our organization getting the best out of our pitching talents. I'm convinced if we kept E-Rod, he would have not had the same success for us. Quote
dc. Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Scott Coolbaugh. Forgot about that change this year. Honestly, haven't noticed much different in most guys this year - of anything, Jones seems more patient at times. But most of the others? Just what I expected to see from them... Including the likes of Pearce and Snider, who I think Duquette saw as his new magic beans that everyone else overlooked... I'm trying to temper frustrations though because the reality is, unless we want a team full of contracts that the Yankees and Dodgers are dealing with, we have to play the odds on some of these underachievers... Sometimes you hit, sometimes you miss. At least, unlike a big contract, a miss will only sting fora few months or year. Quote
varaven45 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 We haven't replaced the Cruz and Markakis bats, Hardy can't stay in the lineup, and Davis is well Davis. It all adds up to a dysfunctional, punch less lineup. Not bringing in a single legit bat in the offseason not only hurt but was a huge slap in the face to Buck and the fans. Quote

Silver lining is the A L East is on the down this year, we are not buried yet. Quote
varaven45 Posted June 6, 2015 Author Posted June 6, 2015 Good point on the AL East; in fact, the whole AL is pretty watered down. Team needs an infusion of hitting. Maybe Weits provides some short term punch. I'd like to see Paredes bat 2nd and move Weiters to 5th or 6th, followed by Davis. Quote
dc. Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Paredes has been dead the last ten games - one hit I think. Markakis' bat wasn't much to replace the last few seasons. But his defense and leadership were something. Quote
thundercleetz Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Just looked up Markakis. He's having a solid year. No HRs through 53 games, but he's getting on base at an elite clip (.397). He has a higher OBP than slugging percentage (.376). I wonder if he would performed like this for us. It seems like his game now is tailored for the NL. Quote
dc. Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Yeah, he is having a great year for a lead-off man ... I have had the same thought. I also wonder if that production is worth as much as they paid him and for four more years. Hard to think. The reality is, Snider-Young-Lough are only slightly underperforming compared to Nick's batting stats the last few years - and outperforming his power and speed. The defense and intangibles in the clubhouse, though... Quote
varaven45 Posted June 6, 2015 Author Posted June 6, 2015 Yep; letting Markakis go was a mistake from a leadership and continuity standpoint. The cheapos could have ponied up $ after passing on Miller and Cruz. instead, we picked up nada in return. I don't care if Markakis was on the decline. Ray Lewis and Reed were shelves of themselves when we won the SB. Ownership was smart enough to see their intrinsic value to the team. That's one of the many differences between Ravens and O's mgmt . Quote
Spen Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 I like Markakis. I miss Markakis. I still think passing on signing him to a 4 year deal was the right thing to do. Especially with an upcoming surgery. Besides didn't the team offer him a comparable 3 year deal but he wanted the 4th? I know some people criticize this team, and always will with this owner, but but in this case I dont think calling them cheap is fair or warranted. It would have been cheaper to let JJ walk, yet he is still here. The Ravens are a well run team, no doubt, but its so much easier to be well run in a capped league in which your TV deal pays all your salaries. The funny thing is with the cap NFL teams often let declining fan favorites go. While saddened most fans praise such moves, when the Orioles do the exact same thing they are criticized for it. Quote
dc. Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Yeah, I think the time was more important than the money. The reality is, sometimes to a fault, this team is scared of long term commitment. And the other reality is that in many cases, that's not going to be a bad thing. Quote
varaven45 Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 7 runs - whoa ! The offense - it is alive !!! Quote
dc. Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Reimold back up and starting today. If he ever can stay healthy, I still believe his impact could be huge and could maybe lock down one of those corner spots. He's been hit in AAA the last weeks... Bring it too the big leagues like Matt did! Quote
dc. Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Reimold was safe there. Unreal they reversed that play. Quote
