Oh Yea!

Cornerback Lardarius Webb was making football moves on the sidelines during Tuesday’s Organized Team Activities, showing a great deal of progress in rehabbing his injured knee.

Webb, working on the sideline with Head Trainer Bill Tessendorf, was backpedaling and making cuts off the knee. He was also making side-to-side movements and flipping his hips as if turning to chase a receiver.

“Lardarius, according to the doctors, is ahead of schedule significantly,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said. “He looks like he’s moving around well. Fabian also is ahead of schedule.”

wow, that is great news. I'm happy, trust me; I also wonder, was the original prognosis and timeline for recovery a "worst case scenario", which would facilitate a more probable "ahead-of-schedule" recovery? just curious, but it seems to me alot of players are recovering from really serious injuries with miraculous speed in recent years.

Better treatments and medications have improved the timing, and the teams haven't changed what time frame they tell the media it will take the player to recover :)

I understand the need to keep media speculation at a minimum and give teams (sports and medical) time to do their jobs effectively. I just wonder...

But I'm definitely happy, given the way Webb was early last season, to know he'll probably be on track to start on time.

This is encouraging news, but I still expect Webb to start the season on the PUP list. While he cannot make his injury worse, he can complicate matters by coming back too soon. Often times the other knee will overcompensate for the injured one putting the player at risk. Obviously, the trainers are aware of this though. Webb's game is built around speed and quickness, he will not be the same player if he is 100%. What this report tells me is that Webb should be recovered for a target date of Week 6, not Week 1. This is still very encouraging though considering we were not certain if we were going to see Webb at all in 2010.

He's a hitter too cleetz.

I agree he needs to be 100% to be the guy we saw last year and now it looks like that can happen sometime by week 6 or sooner. Even if he goes on the PUP he has a good shot at making an impact soon after he gets off it.

The sooner the better...we'll need him come playoff time... :)

Washington, Webb both receive encouraging news

As the Ravens began their second passing camp Monday, cornerbacks Fabian Washington and Lardarius Webb both received encouraging news on their recoveries from season-ending knee surgeries.

Washington expects to be ready for training camp after seeing his surgeon Monday, and Webb is "on schedule" to return, the cornerbacks tweeted Monday. Both saw Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala.

"Dr. [James] Andrews told me I was doing great," Washington said in a tweet.

Washington was lost for the remainder of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee after the Ravens' 17-15 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 22. Webb then tore the ACL in his right knee a month later in a 31-7 rout of the Chicago Bears.

Without Washington and Webb, the Ravens have gone with Domonique Foxworth and Chris Carr as their starting cornerbacks. Cary Williams has worked as the nickel back.

Considering Fabian injured his knee in late November, the fact he will be ready for training camp is very remarkable. Fabian also said he trains with Webb and Webb is about six weeks behind him. So consider both guys are "on schedule" and if my math is correct, that would mean Ladarius would be ready by about week 2? That would be huge for us! And if Cary Williams can continue to impress, he would strenthen and add size to our secondary. Lets hope Washington and Webb can continue to heal quickly!

Definately huge news. They will be able to contribute 'sooner' rather than 'later'.

nerd.gifIt will be a hell of a lot better having them in the playoffs this year.
