vmax Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 At the moment, there is serious light at the end of the Covid tunnel. We can see it............ Quote Many experts believe the time will soon be right for the federal government to ease its recommendations on indoor masking across the board and say doing so could help encourage more vaccine holdouts about the clear benefits of getting their shots. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention already says masks aren't needed outdoors for vaccinated people unless it's crowded, nor indoors when inoculated individuals gather in small groups with others who are immunized. President Joe Biden, who has set a target of vaccinating 70 percent of adults with at least one dose by July 4, told a meeting of state governors on Tuesday that further loosening measures are coming "soon." Right now, the vaccination figure is around 59 percent of adults with at least one dose, while the country is reporting around 38,000 daily new cases -- a per capita rate of 11 new cases per 100,000 people, well below global hotspots and falling fast. Consensus is growing among experts that given the encouraging data, the U.S. is approaching the right time to lift indoor mask restrictions in most public settings. "For somebody who's already been fully vaccinated, they can wear the mask out of solidarity or in a symbolic sense, but their wearing a mask indoors is not benefiting anyone else," explained Vinay Prasad, an epidemiologist and biostatistician at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). "There's an infinitesimally low probability of even having an infection that can be detected on a PCR test, let alone being able to spread it to someone," he added...Most indoor mask guidelines may be on way out in U.S., experts say (msn.com) Get vaccinated and feel free....and maskless! tsylvester Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 Sure, we can't trust people to stop at stop signs, to not park in fire lanes. So we are supposed to trust them to be vaccinated? Leave the mask mandates in place, open everything up then see what happens. If we don't get a mass contagion, fine, then lift the mask mandate. But if we do, as woth the Yankees, ...... Quote
vmax Posted May 15, 2021 Author Posted May 15, 2021 There was no flu season this year so masks really work. The Yankee staff and Bill Maher thing proves the vaccine works. You can get the virus but won't feel any symptoms. Only 1 member of the Yankees felt any symptoms. This is important: Quote "For somebody who's already been fully vaccinated, they can wear the mask out of solidarity or in a symbolic sense, but their wearing a mask indoors is not benefiting anyone else," explained Vinay Prasad, an epidemiologist and biostatistician at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). "There's an infinitesimally low probability of even having an infection that can be detected on a PCR test, let alone being able to spread it to someone," he added I have little faith in a large minority of people getting the shot. Since so many Americans bought into and believed the Big Lie, I can only conclude that the conscious awareness of a significant portion of the population of citizens is low. This will keep the door open for deadlier variants to come. We'll be wearing masks again. What happened to base your decisions for "the highest good for everyone involved?" It's not about me. It's about us. We are all connected. Quote
vmax Posted May 15, 2021 Author Posted May 15, 2021 Here's more information on new cases.... Quote One of the most vaccinated countries in the world is experiencing a Covid-19 outbreak. While other nations struggle to secure enough vaccines, the Seychelles is in the enviable position of having already fully immunized more than 61.4% of the population. But that hasn't been enough to stop the spread of Covid. "Over the last few months, after vaccination, people have seen that anybody getting infected is not getting seriously sick, nobody is dying, nobody is getting a lot of complications," he said. People in the islands -- who he said love to party -- have been socializing without taking precautions. "People have let down their guard." Dr Richard Mihigo, program coordinator for vaccine preventable diseases, at WHO regional office for Africa, said Seychelles' data matched evidence Covid-19 vaccines are highly effective at preventing severe disease, hospitalization and deaths. "Until everyone is protected, there is no reason why the disease would not continue to spread," he said in an email, adding that WHO teams are continuing to review the data, assess progress, and understand the trends in the country. The Seychelles is 60% vaccinated but still infections are rising. That's not as bad as it sounds - CNN Quote A cautionary tale The Seychelles is a vaccine success story. But it's also a cautionary tale that vaccines aren't a cure-all -- and that countries need to be wary of new variants and transmission, Berry said. "We're all racing to be vaccinated, but we still need to remember social distancing and fresh air and masks are very good at preventing transmission," she said. "I think it's going to simmer for quite some time." Bouey said there was increasing consent among public health professionals that while vaccines are critical for mitigating Covid-19, they won't eliminate transmissions or outbreaks. "Covid is not going to suddenly disappear. The most likely scenario is that the world will just have to live with Covid," National University of Singapore's Lim said....The Seychelles is 60% vaccinated but still infections are rising.
