cravnravn Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Our new Offense, its off the dam charts, I love it....BUT We score to fast, our defense looked very winded in the 2nd quarter, just be thankful it was the Bengals, who have yet to beat a team with a winning record. Not so sure the D can keep the pace with the O. Quote
vmax Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 They only gave up 13 points. All told, Baltimore’s defense accounted for four sacks, two turnovers, six points and any number of key plays. Quote
yagersports Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 They didnt look good in the second quarter but they looked fabulous in the third and fourth quarter! Dalton was getting ate up! I told my gf after the first bengals series that Dalton was going to through a pick cuz his balls were coming out high. Sure enough the pick was on an overthrown WR. Quote
OutsideRzAcE Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 The D still scares me. They were getting run all over and in 3rd and short/4th and short, they were giving up 3,4,5, yards. They remind me of the Greg Williams Saints Defense of a couple years ago. Basically an average D that turned into a lethal D once they were handed a big lead. Justin Tucker looked good! We can breathe a sign of relief there. Quote
varaven45 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Nice win and sound perfromance from Joe and the offense. Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves here. Time to get ready for Philly ! Quote

They remind me of the Greg Williams Saints Defense of a couple years ago. Basically an average D that turned into a lethal D once they were handed a big lead. Justin Tucker looked good! We can breathe a sign of relief there. The defense, even in the second quarter, looked a lot better than I thought. Yes, the Bengals were converting some short down conversions, but we held them to two fourth downs on that drive. The Bengals were desparate on that last drive of the half. The problem in the preseason against the run was teams were getting to the outside. Kruger, Upshaw, and McClellan did a great job of setting the corner. The pass defense was great, Ray Lewis looked spectacular, and our guys were flying all over the field. How many tackles did Lardarius Webb make either chasing down a play from the backside or stepping up and making a tackle? Bonecrusher was all over the place. And even Ed Reed looked a lot stronger in tackling than he has in the past. Maybe a full healthy offseason is what he needed. And of course... NGATA!!!! I think we are better than average, but I do agree, there will be some growing pains. However, if the offense stays aggressive, we will feast on teams once we have a lead. The 2010 Saints, the 2004 Eagles, both teams with a lot of talent on defense that forced turnovers and had a break but don't bend style. It is ok for teams to drive, we just need to hold them to field goals or force turnovers. I think our defense will be able to do that. Quote
vmax Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Ed Reed is King of Ohio... Reed actually has a lot of thanks to give to the state of Ohio. His numbers against Cleveland are better than against the Bengals. He’s got 10 interceptions for 356 return yards and three touchdowns against the Browns. So, in total, he’s got 20 of 58 interceptions (34.5 percent), 693 of 1,497 yards (46.3 percent), 6 of 8 career TDs off of interceptions (75 percent) and 7 of 14 total career TDs (50 percent) against Ohio’s NFL entities.Seems fitting that he’s going to end up in Canton one of these days. It seemed to me while watching at the stadium, that Dalton had all day to throw in the first half and into the 3rd quarter. Peas threw all kinds of players and combos into the front seven trying to find somebody, anybody, who could bring the heat. The secondary covered well, but no secondary can hold up that long without giving up completions.Pollard was just lights out. He set the tone and attitude. I can't say enough about how much he means to this D.Ray had a good game...an inspired game and Ed showed up. It's been awhile since I saw Ed take one to the house and that play electrified the House. I thought he would get a pick because Dalton is not accurate on anything deep and he had guys open.Kemo, McPhee and Kruger were neutralized. Green Ellis ran well. 91 yards, 5.1 ypc., so the run D was weak too....by our standards. What was amazing to me is they only gave up 13 points. I don't know what to make out of that. Is the D strong or the Bengals that weak? The D took over and dominated as the lead grew as the ticking clock put pressure on the Bengals offense to get something going in a hurry. Then we saw the Ravens of old. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 The D is like the way Indy has been. They got better in the 2nd half. They can pin back their ears when the offense gets a lead. Quote
yagersports Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Exactly, this defense may not be great, but they're going to be very opportunistic and they're going to play very well with a lead. This is gonna be fun because I bet the Bengals team whups the Steelers. They are not ready for them. And Dalton is better than I had expected. Ben is gonna have it rough when they play. Quote
oldno82 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 The defense was slack against the run and couldn't deliver pressure until a lead got built up. That could be a warning for when we face teams like NE. I admit to being worried until the 3rd quarter. But, the Ravens were definitely the class of the AFC North this past weekend. The Steelers appear to have major offensive line issues. The Browns are, well, they're the Browns. The Bengals came out looking like a fighting team but wilted under our offense. And lets not forget, guys, this is only game 1. Its a long season. Good news is we came out of the game healthy. Quote

I said the squeelers would have issues. I still only see them in 3rd place. Quote
