vmax
According to Trent.... "The story here has switched,'' said Trent Dilfer, the ex-Ravens quarterback and current ESPN analyst. "We won a Super Bowl [in 2000] not being a very good offense. But we were a critical conversion offense. It was about scoring points on a short field, maintaining possession, getting a couple first downs and punting. We were a situational offense, and we knew it."Now the script has completely flipped to where they're driven by the offense and need to be a situational defense. If they can come up with critical stops, play good red-zone defense, hold teams to field goals, they know that offense is going to put up points and they're still going to win. It's just the exact opposite way of winning that they've had in Baltimore for so long. But both ways are good.'' varaven45
Trent makes good points although I don't know we can be as dominant an offense in 2012 as was our defense in 2000. That D was a record breaking squad; our offense is good but has a good way to go.
Spen
I feel good about the team at the same time I have my doubts. I still think we will win 5 out of the final 10 games (or more) and that will get us in the playoffs. Hopefully by that point we have a few things figured out on defense. yagersports
Our run defense could improve with Ray off the field. He does lead the team in tackles, but like last year, he's hitting the RB 3 -4 yds behind the line of scrimmage. He's not meeting the RB at the line of scrimmage with the frequency that he had in his younger days. I really wouldn't doubt if the Run defense improved. We NEED to find a pass rush. I truly hope I'm wrong about Suggs not being able to provide that. Are there any reports on Suggs practicing? How much was he allowed to do? I really think Ellerbe and McClain will be better 1-2 punch in the run game. I'm not sure if they'll be better in the pass coverage. Ray seemed to be around the ball all the time in pass coverage. papasmurfbell
More than help the run D his being out can help the pass D. Really all he brings to the D now is his knowledge and instincts. The skills have eroded that far.
