I really hope they don't pick someone internal.

OTay, what comes first the chicken or the egg?
oldno82 replied to tsylvester's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Yeah, I'd say OC but have no idea who. -
Maybe this link will give us some more ideas: https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/rumor-mill-ravens-offensive-coordinator-search

I can't see Bieniemy coming here either unless he gets a leg up when Harbs leaves. But as you said before why do that when Andy Reid could be retiring near the same time. Not thrilled with Leftwich either. As for Martin and Urban I agree...why pick up Roman's assistants? Frank Reich, meh...maybe. I pretty flummoxed about it right now.
-
But who's to say he'll be 100% cutting with speed and it's not like he was all that great to begin with. I think we need a step up from him. He's at best an average player. With Bateman coming back from a Lisfranc, which normally take a couple seasons to get back to normal, we need more from our WRs. And I'm not talking breaking the bank to do it.

He's got a broken bone in his foot.

We have potentially one good wide receiver in Bateman who has screws in his ankle now and nobody else. BTW, I believe Marquise Brown was out for several games this season with an injury.

Preston: It’s time for the Ravens and Lamar Jackson to part ways

Rashod Bateman's coming back from a Lisfranc injury. I've never seen a WR come back from that and have a good year his first year back. Duvernay has a broken foot to come back from and again it make take two seasons before his really healthy. Yes we had some replacements this year but mostly they came off the street or belong there. We only have 5 draft picks and no number 2. So who is available that we could afford in free agency? I am disturbed over our WR availability. Hell, maybe we could contract out to the Steelers and let them pick for us. They always seem to have depth at WR and it's always come via the draft. I wonder how the hell they do it. -

I could see him with the type of deal Eric had as GM in waiting with Ozzie. -

Ya know, this must not be easy for Lamar either. He gambled his value on having a super season and it didn't pan out that way. Maybe he's feeling let down by both himself and the front office. I don't know and I don't want to speculate but he may have ambivalent feelings about the organization at the moment and hence the cryptic tweets. But I've come to the conclusion that I want to see this process pan out through March 7. If they can't strike a deal in 2 months then I'll lean more to the tag and trade process. But I'm going to give the negotiations some time here to see it play out. Meanwhile what good OC candidates are there? We can speculate about who we'd want. I think Harbs has a couple years left on his contract. Maybe Eric Bieniemy the KC OC would come here with the understanding he'd be in the running for HC here when Harbaugh retires. -
Somehow I can't see either the Steelers or Browns being interested in Roman. Not with the quarterbacks they have. Did they dump their OC's too?

Tsyl said it right when he posted that Eric played it correctly. You don't want to rule out Lamar playing here yet, nor do you want to bad mouth him if you think it's going to come down to a trade. You'd just diminish his trade value. The other thing is... because it's all private so far between Lamar and Eric, anything else they would say here would be inappropriate. -
Are you talking about Lamar? We'd never trade him to a division opponent IMHO. I have a feeling Lamar is going to mostly involved in getting a new contract with plenty of guaranteed money. But if they can sign him to a cap/guaranteed friendly deal, it might be interesting to see him with a new OC here. But what I really believe is that we need a different style quarterback to go with the 'new style' offense. I'm trying hard to keep an open mind.

So far as Head Coach is concerned, I really think Harbs is lacking in X's and O's knowledge. He is an outstanding team leader and knows what buttons to push so far as motivation is concerned but he doesn't seem to know as much about play calling and for sure time management. But I believe he's here until his contract runs out. -

That's what happens when you gear your whole philosophy towards the run game. -

Apparently Roman's contract is up but the club does hold an option to extend him for 2023. If they exercise that option I'll be sick. To me they should take the easy way out and just tell the guy NOW that they're not exercising the option. Still having doubts that Lamar can ever be the quarterback that's needed to go deep into the playoffs. Either the team's ability to develop him is piss poor or he just doesn't have the tools to be anything more than he is now. I'm afraid the answer is yes to both of those options. -

I can agree with this. I'm just saying that you can't run the ball as much as we do without having a much better complementary passing game. Papa see my reply above. I'm not advocating ditching the running game totally just saying we need a more balanced offense that has an intelligent passing component. And I think one where the medium to long passing play moves the defenses we face back from stacking the box. That way the running attack an the passing attack go hand in hand. -

The scheme isn’t worth adjusting.. it had its run here but you can’t play catch-up with it if you fall behind. We need more passing power and better WRs and schemes that get them open. -

I agree. But they had better replace not only Roman but the whole offensive scheme he uses. -

I don't know. If money is not the most important thing then why didn't he sign the lucrative deal they offered last summer? Is it possibly because he isn't happy with the game planning and play calling either? Or are these guys just standing up for their brother in arms? I really don't know. -
Hey Tsyl, I'm still waiting on Roman to have Likely and Andrews on the field at the same time opposite each other. To the best I can remember, they didn't try that last night. This offense coaching is dysfunctional.

Dee is right...hell you all are right. Lamar wants too much money for what he gives us which is a playoff game win or 2 over his 5 year career. I also didn't like it that he didn't even bother to accompany the team to Cincy for a playoff game. He's not showing leadership when he snubs the team like that. And you can't pay a player big money when he misses 4-5 games a year. But who to get as a bridge QB? I'm not sold on anyone but is Baker Mayfield an option? He had decent stats with the Rams once he got away from the Carolina armpit. I want us to get 2 #1's for Lamar. I think Will Levis has good potential and wouldn't mind us dealing to draft him. The running backs and tight ends are solid. The O-line is mediocre. The D is fabulous. We aren't that far away from being a big dog team. Trade Lamar and make him happy and the city that gets him happy and the fans here happy. But at the very least get rid of Roman and his 'style' of offense! -

Agree plus a new OC who can get rid of this problematic offensive scheme. -
Very well put! And who is the one who does the play designs and calls---Roman. I have to admit, I'm baffled by Lamar. He plays lights out for several games at the start of the season, then falls to mediocre then gets hurt, again, and doesn't play anymore this season. Similar to last year. It's not his fault that he's hurt but now his contract is up and we gotta decide what to do and what direction we want this offense to go to. We need a new OC. Do we also need a new HC? I dunno. His won-lost record over his tenure is damned good but strange things happen. Plays don't get called in on time. Two minute offense is hampered by poor clock management. We get called for delay of game after taking a time out in one game. I'm frustrated and disappointed but quite honestly don't know what all the solutions are. There is a lot of talent on this team but the offense can't seem to get out of its own way.

OK...sounds like the coaches have lost the team. Or maybe Dobbins is just blowing off steam after a heart-breaker loss? Still there is a budding fire out there in fan world as well. So what does Bisciotti do now?
