Lamar usually passes inside the numbers but I did see him make 2 nice intermediate throws outside of them. And, yes, I wouldn't play Brown yet either. Well, if they really think he's ready, maybe one series...
-
Hard to get a good evaluation of the D with Rodgers out. Our Running game looks to be very good. I like the RB rotation they’ve got. Agree that Lamar was uneven. Receivers effort was there but they were uneven too. McSorely looks decent. His performance was a plus. They have to be able to pass more outside the numbers.

No doubt. The defense is going to continue to need the Offense to pull their weight more than before but, so far, I'm encouraged. Might know a bit more after they a quarter against the Pack tonight which will also have regulars on the field for a while.

The biggest things we lost were 2 high level defensive leaders in Weddle and Suggs and that does hurt quite a bit. That aspect also relates to chemistry which is more important in football then, say, baseball. Their physical talents are replaceable. We'll have to see if new defensive leaders appear. Aaron Rodgers will supply a big test for this Ravens' defense. They won't be facing a better QB than him all preseason.

Regarding Thursday,,,from today's Sun: https://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-fb-packers-rodgers-20190814-ljbnlkkxqrfztnch3gwnnlrdve-story.html

Some reporters like what they've seen... https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/late-for-work-8-14-analyst-predicts-ravens-are-ready-to-make-a-huge-leap-in-2019 So I guess based on who's reporting, it will be either a disaster or a playoff game. Thursday should be a good test as both the Ravens and Packers aim for their regulars to play about a quarter or so I've read. We also need to keep injuries to a minimum

While there are questions, Suggs and Weddle are at the nadir of their careers. Smith did a great job but I think the most talented guy on defense is: Martindale. I think he's got enough ammo and, more importantly, his brains to keep the D as effective as they'll need to be. Plus, I'm thinking the offense finally has enough potential playmakers to allow the defense some breathing space. They don't have to carry the team any more. I'm not predicting another playoff run but it's possible and this is probably going to be the most exciting team we've had since the Flacco-Boldin playoff offense in 2012. It should be really entertaining to just watch this team play this year.

Man, keep the good news rolling in!

I find this theory to be very implausible. Too much risk, too little reward. i know if I owned the team I'd never have done it.
-
They did sit a bunch...but we didn't have a few on offense play either. We probably won't get a more accurate read until the season starts. I was impressed by our team speed on both offense or defense and the effort put out, especially since it was a preseason game. I have to say our coaching approach is doing a good job---so far.

Right on with all the comments in all the above posts. Lamar's a leader and has that 'it' factor Ray was talking about. He gets teammates to believe in him and, even better, believe in themselves. Max, noticed your shout out to Saunders. It's been well deserved!

Ravens Trade Alex Lewis to New York Jets
oldno82 replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Well, he had a pretty good rookie year if I remember and we're in pretty bad shape at LG now. Chances are they still might have gotten a 7th round conditional after one more week of practice. I do believe though that it's better to get something, even a 7th rounder, rather than nothing. I just think the front office could have handled this a little better. Maybe I'm spoiled by all the good moves they've made in the off-season. -
Ravens Trade Alex Lewis to New York Jets

Now that he can practice I think they should have given him a chance; we're not exactly overloaded with left guards. -
Well that post made my day regarding the offense. I wonder how the D stacked up. Really glad to hear Orlando Brown is out of the doghouse. We need him playing. I feel he'll have an even better year this year than last year. With Lewis unloaded I am concerned about the LG situation. We really don't have a starting guard. They may have to make a trade.

Take it easy...there's still 5 weeks and 4 preseason games before they count for anything. We'll know more in 2-3 weeks.
-
Ah, let us not forget this is training camp. The preseason will tell us more. The first two regular games, even more. But I can't help being fired up myself.
-
Yep my interest is stoked too. Hopefully things like injuries are kept to a minimum. But, just think...it'll be the start of a season where we don't have to yawn at the upcoming offense!

Five Standouts From First Week Of Ravens Training Camp
oldno82 replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Yep...good news abounds. Really looking forward to seeing Boykin in action along with Henry and McPhee. If all this news is more than just smoke, the Ravens will be a force to reckoned with.
