Interesting move but not liking the player
oldno82 replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Lauletta and Kirk will be around in the later rounds. They both looked very good to me. First round pick for qb leftovers would be a bad move. -
And to that point Eisenberg says: " But at the same time, there are reasons why the “first-round quarterback” idea is bubbling up this year. The draft class is super deep in quarterbacks, with as many as six possibly going high. Given the event’s unpredictable nature, a significant talent could be available at No. 16 overall, when the Ravens pick. Those opportunities are rare. It’s an eye-opening concept, for sure. And there are things about it to like. For starters, it surely would shake up the local football world, which could use a shake after three straight non-playoff seasons. After a season in which empty seats appeared and the ending disappointed, I’ve heard it suggested that the Ravens can’t do anything to fire up their “bored” fans in the offseason. Oh, yeah? Let’s see what happens if they draft Louisville’s Lamar Jackson or Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield. That would take care of the yawns. Nothing gets a buzz going like new blood under center. It also would rock Flacco’s world – nothing affirms your sports mortality more than your replacement’s arrival. Would the Ravens benefit from that? Are they willing to find out?" http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Eisenberg-Ravens-Are-Unlikely-to-Draft-a-First-Round-Quarterback-But-the-Idea-Has-Merit-/15122f5f-36cf-4cec-8cb7-a40125928a2c

He looked pretty damn good in the Senior Bowl. I'd be thinking about trading down in the first to take him late in that round. Or, get Sutton and Moore both.
-
Crap, Tsyl, if one of those top qb's falls to 16 I want us to take him!
-
I agree...Tyrod's a bridge and a good backup...they're still hunting for a franchise quarterback and I think they're going to get one this time. The only thing I disagree on is that I think Cleveland is going to to be better than 6-10. Things can really change fast when you've got as many picks as they do and $100 mil in cap space.

Report: Ravens interested in bringing back WR Michael Campanaro
oldno82 replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Dumb move...it wastes scarce resources on the same guy we've been following for years now and waiting for him to get healthy and productive. I don't recall him adding much to the team last year as a PLAYMAKER! Maybe if I say it loud enough Ozzie will hear me. -
It's Ozzie's last throw of the dice. i'm hopeful but realistically don't think he can pull it off. Hope I'm wrong.

Ravens re-sign FA Brent Urban to a one-year deal
oldno82 replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Probably best since it's a one year deal. One thing I feel like screaming to the Ravens is to use whatever pick (other than first) is necessary to land Lauletta or Kirk at qb. These guys should be 2-4th round picks somewhere along the line. I don't ever recall seeing a qb class in the draft that is this deep. We simply can't afford not to take a chance on a guy to groom as Flacco's replacement. -
Baltimore Ravens May Be in on TE Jimmy Graham
oldno82 replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Just what we need...another receiver on the cusp of the downside of his career. -
This draft is so loaded with QB's I think we've got to take one like Kirk, or Lauletta in the mid-round picks. Damn shame we don't have our usual bevy of comp picks. We have so many needs and there's lots of overall talent to be taken in the 4-5 round range.
-
Well he certainly has enough red flags. Maybe a 5th round pick though I bet Bisciotti will be against it. Modell would have given him a shot.
-
Except for Calloway, whom I don’t know, I’d be happy with that draft too.
-
Sutton, Andrews, Gesicki are all supposed to be later round 1 picks. I don't want to see them reach either at 16.
-
What do you guys think the possibility is of the Ravens trading down a few spots? Since most A1 talent will be gone at 16 and the draft depth is fairly deep this year.
-
Thought it would be good to start a new thread where we can combine all these. Here's one for Papa: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000918658/article/orlando-brown-struggling-through-nfl-combine-workout

PI should remain at spot of foul...otherwise it will just encourage more holding, grabbing, etc. on deep balls. Defensive holding---if you lessen the foul you'll just see even more penalties than they have today. They are supposedly working on the catch rule now---early indications are if you hit the ground and lose a caught ball it will still count as a completion. Not sure how I feel about that one.

This mock shows the Pats taking Lauletta. https://www.si.com/college-football/2018/02/20/nfl-draft-quarterbacks-sam-darnold-josh-rosen

Lauletta was the qb I was referring to in the Senior Bowl.
-
Well, papa, I think pretty strongly that Mayfield will be gone and even if he drops his 'character' concerns would make the Ravens reluctant to take him. Even more so since they think it's premature to draft a quarterback that high. I don't know all of the players you mentioned but I do like Sutton and Kirk. Tight ends I know Gesicki and Goedert are getting some love in the press. How about Williams as OT if he's available in the first? Or McGlinchey? I doubt they'd draft a center with the first pick. Acually Price might still be available in round 2. Regarding quarterbacks how about the guy from the Senior Bowl whose name I have forgotten but he played well in the second half? Or Kirk from from the same game?

What specific players in the draft do you propose?

Joe Flacco’s checkdowns and a flawed passing offense
oldno82 replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Ive never seen a metric on quickness, unfortunately. I guess the closest thing to it is yards after catch up thar includes mid_and longer distance completions. Tom Brady has made a career out of throws to quick receivers and backs. Think Amendola and Edelman. Belichick always finds a way to have receivers like them on his team. He has a scheme that takes advantage of that quality.
