vmax
This is a solid move... The Ravens hired coach Steve Spagnuolo to their staff as a full-time senior defensive assistant, Head Coach John Harbaugh announced Friday afternoon. The move adds more experience to the Ravens’ defensive coaching room and a coach and friend that Harbaugh is very familiar with.“Steve had a number of opportunities in the league right now, and we’re excited he picked the Ravens,” Harbaugh said. “He comes to a staff that we believe is very strong, and he makes us even better.”....Spagnuolo has coached eight playoff teams, six division title winners, five conference championship games and won Super Bowl XLII as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants. He became one of the hottest coaches in the league after the 2007 season when he led the Giants’ Super-Bowl winning defense.Spagnuolo is a big proponent of getting pressure on the quarterback. His 4-3 defense in New York took down Tom Brady and the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, sacking him five times.http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Ravens-Hire-Coach-Steve-Spagnuolo/836e9567-c330-4c03-be70-7229d5f8f738 Defense is back! Enough can not be said about how important coaching is for developing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year players. That's how you stay deep and competitive. Depth and development carried last years defense through 587 injuries....to the final Super Bowl goal line stand.
cravnravn
Is it a solid move? or is it a message to Pees?
OutsideRzAcE
Pees is 63...I think this is just a d-coor in waiting unless he starts thinking retirement.
papasmurfbell
On paper it sounds like a great move. Spags is really smart. Pees is fine. He did a great job with old parts.
oldno82
Pees did do a good job what with all the injuries and age, but I'm hoping to see more 'hell unleashed' this coming season.
52isUnstoppable
With all the new quality additions and depth added to the dline, there will be plenty of hell to unleash. We can rotate guy after guy all game and not miss a beat. Wear down those olines and kill them in the fourth quarter. I met arthur jones at the baltimore spca walk and asked him what he thought of the dumervil pickup, said it was unbelievable and he cant wait to see this line come together. Also asked him how he came up with ball on the ridley fumble/pollard hit in afc championship and he said "u dont wanna know". Awesome dude, not as big as i thought he would be. papasmurfbell
I expect it to take about a month but the D will be really solid at that point.

He's not the biggest guy at all, but he's extremely strong.
