Who honestly believes the Ravens are better on paper this year?

When have the Ravens ever lacked at Lber?

I have all the faith in the world in Huff & Elam back there just because of our off season acquisitions. You know how much pressure is lifted off Elam because we have a 100% healthy Suggs, and aquired Doomerville? Those two alone, 1 of them will be double covered and like Kruger reaped the benefit of Suggs drawing double coverage, Doomerville will but up 1 1/2 times more sacks then Kruger.

I see offensive coordinators changing game plans and not even going to the deep ball, and if they do, Elam has all the tools to be in instant impact player.

On paper they got younger and faster. I'm more worried about the offensive side. I think Birk's retirement is huge. He was an extremely smart, veteran center who Joe has worked with his whole career. I'm not knocking Gino, its just there's no real game footage to see of him just the useless Cin game last year. Boldin was slow but sure handed, maybe one of the young guys will do good (I'm rooting for Thompson), but I have no faith in Doss or Reed at #3.

I am very optimistic about Gino. He reminds me a lot of Matt Flynn. This being said, Ozzie was very smart to bring in a guy like Shipley (go figure). That will be a very good camp competition that the Ravens will benefit greatly from (no matter who the winner is).

I'm one of the few who actually does still believe in Doss and I love Thompson. I do think they will still bring in another WR. I don't think it will be Lloyd (or any other FA). It will be someone who is on another roster at present.

Huff was a great pick up dumervil as a pass rush specialist as well but he sruggles in the run. I'm just saying rookie safeties stuggle at times with the play action and pump fakes of the nfl. I think Elam will be good in the long run but he will have his struggles this year. Not many college abs can do the pump fake like the pros.

Onto the ILB you have a guy who missed a year and a guy brand new to your scheme. Also it's the nfl injuries are bound to happen and imo your depth is lacking at ilb. I honestly think McClain retiring was the best thing for yinz you don't want that attitude in your lockerroom especially with no ray ray to straighten him out.

I'm actually good with Brown, Smith, McClain, Bynes and McClellan. With what looks to be a dominant DL this year, our ILB's will be having a lot of fun this year.

I believe Matt Elam is going to be a pro bowl safety in this league. Fast, hard hitter, and smart. No problems at safety. Linebackers? More than adequate between the starters and back ups. Our D line is going to be right there with the 2000 line. Look for this to be a top 5 defense this year.

Offense. Somebody WILL step up at receiver and I think that guy is Deonte Thompson. Between both new centers, they will get the job done. Our O line has to saty healthy and that may be a concern this year.

Overall- this new Ravens football team is much better than last years. I smell another very successful year.

Jameel

. Oh yeah I forgot about him. Another thing yinz are forgetting about is the leaders you lost. I didn't think it would hurt the Steelers as bad as it did. The ravens kinda lost exactly what we did last year. We lost Ward(boldin) Farrior(Lewis) Aaron smith(reed). I'm only comparing them as leaders and not skill. You also have to throw birk in that category.

It's definitely going to be a different dynamic. There will absolutely be more leadership on the offensive side of the ball with Flacco, Rice and Torrey already showing it. I think Suggs and Webb will lead the defense.

There's no replacing Ray. Everyone knows that. I don't think you will see Joe come out doing a chicken dance to "Hot In Herre". This team will find it's own way though.

Yeah I think you could dig up a bunch of corpses and ray would have them fired up to play.

I really believe that in the big picture the Ravens have more talent this year than last. Defense will be staunch if a good leader emerges. Boldin's loss is the biggest downer for me. But it is still possible for one of the other guys to step up or perhaps bring a vet in.

Good topic.

On paper...I'll say this again...On Paper!...this is a roster that can go into any stadium, against any team in the NFL and leave with a win.

I expect the defense to have some up's and downs during the first half of the season because leadership, communication and chemistry takes time to develop....but even during this period they will be way better than last years D. The leaders are there...Suggs, Ngata, Daryl Smith (people over look the huge addition that he is...ton of experience and productivity), Canty, Huff, Dummervil, Webb, Spears and Graham.

Focus and drive is no team problem. They are defending nothing. They will always be the 2012 NFL Champs. This year, they want to make NFL history. That is the 2013 team focus. They know it's rare to repeat....so they want to make history. That hunger is damn good. Also Huff, Dummervil, Smith, Canty and Spears don't have rings. The rookies don't either. They want one.

The offense is solid as hell. Receiver is the questionable part. Can Torry be a #1 WR? Maybe he doesn't have to be with so many weapons to throw to. The #2 WR spot is critical and important. It's an unknown to me. I would be happy with Jones as the #3WR. This team will run the ball effectively whenever they want. Pierce and Rice are the best one two combo in the league.

They have 2 great kickers in Tucker and Koch. Returners looks stacked too with Jacoby Jones.

Don't over look the 2013 Ravens coaching staff. They may be the best this franchise has ever had....which is saying a lot because for a long time now, the rest of the NFL teams feed on getting Ravens coaches.

It will be Ravens football.

Donovan McNabb said on NFL Total Access tonight that the Ravens would finish third in the division behind Cincy and Pissburg. He predicts that we will not have ten wins this year. He's a worthless commentator. I knew I always hated that guy.

And to answer the original question, I think there is no doubt that we are "better on paper" this year than last. There is no question the defense will be better and if we can make up for Boldin's production the offense will be better as well. Go Ravens!!!
