cravnravn Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 The Defense is awesome, we kept Cam Newton totally in check, I seen great run stuffin with Canty, Spears and Ngata..heated pressure on numerous occasions by T-Sizz and Dr Doom. I really liked the play of Smith at MLB. He will only get better and wiser. The DB's are agressive, sometimes too agressive, Webby looked great back out there, 2 weeks from now that would have been a pick off for him. All in all the first team D did a fantastic job only surrendering 6 points to Cam & co. The O-Line, I have mixed feelings on them, the pass protection was shoddy at best, seems the D was in Joes face quite a few times, Ray Rice had a couple of decent runs and finished with almost 4 yards a carry, whereas Pierce carried 10 times for 7 yards. I know it was Yandas first game, and he did open 2 beautiful holes for Rice, we need consistency from the o-line..Ose was owned last night.. Loved the opening drive when Joe went 5 for 5 with Jones & Smith in there. Also loved the fact that after that drive Joe went to the coaches and asked for the guys fighting for that 3rd spot to get playing time with the first team o-line. Marlon Brown, WOW what a catch!!! That was either a career ender the way he split defenders, or #1 highlight on ESPN, Joe threw that missle, but the catch was spectacular.. Joe found a new/old 3rd down Don, in Brandon Stokely, nice to see him back in Purple.Dallas Clark, meh, 2 dropped balls puts you on my "I dont like you list' Quote
varaven45 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Crav, Ditto on your comments. I would add "Tandon Doss is done". I thought so after he dropped multiple passes in Indy playoff game last year. He confirmed my thoughts last night. The D looks good. The offense, sans the first drive, was offensive. Joe will be extremely challenged this year with this WR corps. We may need to focus on a very conservative run heavy offense (w/ Rice and Pierce) and Joe throwing a bomb to Torrey, when needed. Its obviously not that simple but the offense right now looksdamn scary Quote
colincac Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Agreed on everything. Osemele really just looked slow out there, I'm inclined to say he just had an off-night. Hopefully they rip into him and he comes out angry for Week 1. The line was very hot and cold. Either opening up huge holes or getting slashed up for a loss. Joe looked inconsistent as usual. The Kuechly interception was downright awful, he stared down Shiancoe and Kuechly was mere steps away, I have NO IDEA how he didn't see him. The defensive line played just like I was hoping they would, we have incredible depth and flexibility. That unit is going to be the best in the league this year and make our LB's and DB's look good. Oldschool739 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Our D gave up 6 points only and our O gave up 28 points.... You can't expect to win when you give up 28 free points... Gooooo Ravens !!!! Quote
oldno82 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Agree with you guys: the D will be potent and get better and better. The offense looked out of kilter after Yanda went to the bench. KO had just a bad night I think and he was up against some super competition. Receivers and their timing with Joe is still the biggest problem. Quote
vmax Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 The Ravens will field a solid team opening day but last night was sloppy. You can see why teams need these preseason games because they are just not ready this early. Look at all the games played week 3. Sloppy. If Goodell has his way, we'll be forced to accept what currently is week 3 preseason games as week 1 opening day games. The thought is retching. Unacceptable. Joe had a good rhythm with Derrick Mason who was not a deep threat but a great chain mover. I see him doing the same with Stokely. O line was the downfall of the offense. Once Reid came in, it went south in a hurry. Quote
cravnravn Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 So how do you feel about Stokely now? So far, so good Quote
