Oldschool739 Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 A mobile qb is better than a pocket passer ??????There's EJ Manuel, hurt already, Tyrod, hurt already, RG-3 recovering and Vick who gets hurt every year....... and then there's Joe, Brady, Manning, Favre, etc who are always there and always competitive.....Do you see a pattern there ?......I do !! Ravens Proud !!!! 1 Quote
oldno82 Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 And, you know, this is really nothing new...this has been happening to running qb's for as long as I can remember. The only exception I can think of is Fran Tarkenton, and he scrambled more than ran downfield. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Steve Young had had great wheels. He didn't become a winner until he was a throw first guy. Run only whne they give it to you. 1 Quote
vmax Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 The "mobile" guys can get you to the playoffs. That's the tease. Then they run into the good defenses. Quote

papasmurfbell Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 No he was good because he was throw first. When he was more apt to run in TB he was no successful. When the DB's and LB's followed the recievers down field and there wsas nothing he would be willing to break. 1 Quote
Geronimo Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Rodgers is a "mobile" Qb and he won a superbowl Big ben is a "mobile" qb and he's won two superbowls. Kaepernick is "mobile" and came close. Manning and Brady are statues but all-time greats, Joe is mobile but chooses not to use his feet. I think the injuries that you are referring to are not because they are mobile, it's because of there body type and the decisions they make once they leave the pocket, it's not just because they are "mobile" Quote
deeshopper Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I'm not sure I would say Rodgers and Roehtlsbareiaqwsdxz are mobile quarterbacks. Definitely not compared to Kaepernick or Cameron. Quote
Robjr83 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 The only time PigPen or Rodgers run is when the pocket breaks. You dont see those two running the read option or wildcat? Quote
Geronimo Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Rodgers and Ben aren't runners like a Kaepernick or Newton but i consider them to be mobile , they move around, run sometimes when nothing is there. I guess there are degrees of mobility where a Kaepernick would be on the high end and a Ben would be on the low end but nevertheless they are mobile and thus making the OP's theory of which one is better moot. I can think of many Qb's who are statues(pocket passers) that are bums and never get hurt. Using Brady and Manning as your examples of pocket passers is misleading and i'm sure done on purpose to try and enforce your stance of the pocket QB being better but i think you have good and bad QB's in both categories 1 Quote
Geronimo Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 the OP didn't say option QB's , he said mobile, and Ben and Rodgers are mobile Quote
Robjr83 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I guess it depends on whats the definition of mobile. I don't think Oldschool is going to put Rodgers in the same mobile category as RG3. I believe the OP was talking about the extreme mobile side: RG3, Vick, Kap, Tyrod..etc Quote
cravnravn Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Ben is far from mobile, it's his only option caus his online stinks, again Quote
Geronimo Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I'm a ravens fan and i hate the steelers also, but i can still look at a steelers player and be objective. Ben may use his mobility more because his o-line stinks but to say he is far from mobile and that it's his only option because his 0-line stinks sounds stupid to me. Quote
vmax Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 the OP didn't say option QB's , he said mobile, and Ben and Rodgers are mobile So is Flacco, Brady, Manning...every QB in the NFL is mobile...they can all rollout to their right or left and move around in the pocket......but they are not runners like Wilson, Krapernick, RGIII, Vick who are a threat to run because it's part of their game. They consistently run the ball down field every game. We're using the wrong word here.In the past fans called them scrambling QB's and that's what I assumed we were talking about here. The difference is most QB's use their mobility throw the ball and if nobody is open then most of the time they throw it away. The scrambling QB will run if downfield nobody is open. Scrambling QB rushing stats are generally 10 times higher than the rest of the QB's in the league....including gropers like Ben. Quote

I don't think Oldschool is going to put Rodgers in the same mobile category as RG3. I believe the OP was talking about the extreme mobile side: RG3, Vick, Kap, Tyrod..etcThank you rob, I was beginning to think I was going to have to borrow some pics from vmax to explain what I was saying to the Chief.....lolAll qb's move around in the pocket or roll out at times, but are looking for an open rec'vr to throw the ball to instead of making 1 or 2 reads and taking off running with it.......And when you consider the fact that the qb and kicker has very light padding compared to those LB's, it's a train wreck waiting to happen....So it's the big flash and then to the PUP list and the team is left to it's backup who usually aren't good enough to win consistently......You cannot depend on a consistent running qb, he won't last 16 games in this NFL..... Joe Cool.......SB MVP.......All year loooooooooong !!!! 1 Quote
Geronimo Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 How many starting Qb's in the league ran consistently last year? Kap, rg3, wilson and newton. Vick didn't run much(that was his problem) Reid turned him into a pocket passer and he had no line thats a bad combination. so of the QB's who consistently run only RG3 didn't last the whole year , so i don't get the whole you can't depend on a mobile qb to last the whole year argument. The argument use to be scrambling qb's can't play in the NFL until one of them did it, then it was they can't win consistently until one of them did it , then it was they can't get you to the playoffs until one of them did it, there's always going to be haters on the running qb , hell it hasn't been until recently they were even given a chance to use there skill set and the reason why is because of the sentiment of the OP, you didn't have forward thinking minds running teams until recently. Money Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Aaron Rodgers is absolutely a mobile QB. His rushing yards per season are on a par with Tarkenton and Young who are considered two of the all-time best mobile QBs. Here's a list: http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/09000d5d8089c108/article/top-10-mobile-quarterbacks-in-nfl-history Quote
cravnravn Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Money, sorry Dan Marino is on that list, he is as fleet afoot as Scott Mitchell Quote

SB Champs.....All year looooooong !!!! 1 Quote
Geronimo Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Dan Marino made subtle moves that made him hard to sack, if you're old enough to have seen Marino play then you know what i'm talking about. Marino couldn't run but his pocket awareness was off the charts which made him elusive though he didn't have legs. Quote

Pocket awareness and mobile are 2 different animals, Johnny U had pocket presence as well, he wasnt sacked alot compared to a Ben R, who in 8 years has been sacked 344 times. Quote
