Ravens running back Ray Rice has had a rough offseason. His quarterback believes that, come September, all will be well.

According to Jordan Ranaan of NJ.com, Joe Flacco said Monday at Ron Jaworski’s celebrity golf tournament that Flacco believes Rice won’t be suspended in the wake of allegations that he knocked out at a casino a woman Rice has since married.

“I don’t foresee anything crazy happening with that,” Flacco said. “I’m expecting to have him [for the entire season].”

Still, if Rice pleads guilty or no contest to the charges, or if he enters a diversion program, his case becomes ripe for review under the personal conduct policy. At that point, Rice could be suspended.

Given the allegations against Rice and a troubling video that shows Rice dragging the mostly-unconscious woman out of an elevator, it’s hard to imagine the NFL not taking a hard line. Violence against women is inexcusable in all settings and contexts, and any perception that the NFL is soft on that subject could jeopardize its popularity among female fans.

The Ravens therefore need to be prepared for anything when it comes to Rice. While it’s Flacco’s prerogative to be optimistic, there’s a good chance he’ll be handing off for a game or two to someone other than Rice this year.

He has been accepted into their prevention, pretrial program and avoids jail time, but this is an admission of guilt so now it is in the hands of the NFL.

Ray Rice can avoid assault charges, still under league review

Ravens running back Ray Rice has been allowed to enter a pre-trial intervention which should prevent criminal charges for the alleged assault of his wife, but he still faces possible punishment from the NFL.

According to Lynda Cohen of the Press of Atlantic City, Rice was accepted into the program which could cause the third-degree charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury to be dismissed. The arrest will remain on his record, but without a conviction.

Rice and his then-fiance, now-wife Janay Palmer were charged in February for simple assault after an incident at an Atlantic City casino. According to the police report, Palmer was knocked unconscious, and video showed her being dragged from an elevator.

“This decision was arrived at after careful consideration of the information contained in Mr. Rice’s application in light of all of the facts gathered during the investigation,” acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said. “After considering all relevant information in light of applicable law, it was determined that this was the appropriate disposition.”

Of course, he still faces review under the league’s conduct policy, but teammate Joe Flacco said he doesn’t think Rice will be suspended.

1. I don't have any problems with Flacco playing in a golf tourney; hell, he's enjoying a hobby during the offseason.

 

2. Joe doesn't know diddly about Rice's legal situation and his opinion is no more valid than anyone on this board. I do like but don't share his optimism.

 

3. The Team needs to gird itself for a multi game suspension. All indications point to a 4 game suspension. What's more, the team knew this at the draft and should have drafted a bonafide RB; instead of an oversized Blocking RB from a small college.

 

This team failed to significantly address the running game in the offseason and, unless through some miracle after the June 1 cuts we acquire a legit back, our running game will be mediocre at the very best.

Kubiak's offense, Pierce and KO healthy, a full offseason with Monroe, and an upgrade at center and I think we certainly upgraded the run game. If Rice can get anywhere back to his 2012 version, which is possible given his weight loss, then our run game will be in excellent shape.

Come on Joe, its a 4 game suspension for sure, anything less would send a wrong message. If Rice gets nothing from the commish, its giving all players a free pass to go out and beat the crap out of their woman or man.

I want my QB to be building chemistry with the players on the offense , especially since they are installing a new offense, not playing golf. i want my QB to sell the play, not stand there with his hands in his pockets because we;re running the wildcat and he doesn't like it. Joe is turning into a diva and he's getting a pass from most of you people but i'm not going to let it ride. You call it hate, i call it having high expectations for the face of the franchise.

The Smith's and Flacco play two different positions, i expect more from Flacco than i do from any player on our team. Flacco plays the most important position on the team, he's the top guy, he needs to know the offense in and out. Flacco is not like all of the other players so stop trying to make excuses for him by comparing to other players on the team

Joe's going to have about as much offensive weapons as he's ever had this year.(barring any injuries). I'm still not sure about the Oline, having never seen Zuttah play and the RT spot still a question. I'm hoping with PItta back to full strength and the addition of SmithSr to work the physical under routes Joe will have more options. I'm also loving the redzone capabilities this year of having Brown, Daniels, and Pitta on the field.

I honestly dont think he'll struggle, O-line will vastly improve, Rice has to prove himself, Joe has to prove himself, Pitta has to prove he's as good as 2012..I like our mission..Where is the SB this year
