vmax Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 'I'll keep your board running while you're licking your wounds steele...from the Pitt Gazzette... Yet a toothless defense — their main concern entering this season — has been joined by a suddenly ineffective offense over the past six quarters to raise doubts whether the Steelers can get off to that hoped-for fast start against a so-called weak schedule through the first seven games. They are, after all, still 1-1 and they were not favored to win in Baltimore, which is also 1-1. But after getting outscored, 50-9, over the past six quarters, something else might be telling: Maybe they just do not have the talent, especially on defense. That defense had no sacks and no turnovers Thursday night, continuing a trend that first cropped up in 2011, when they produced just 15 turnovers — down from 35 in 2010. In 2012 and 2013, they managed 20 turnovers each. After two games, they have none.Sacks? They have three, all in the opener. Sacks allowed? Remember that stretch of seven games in the second half of 2013 when quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was sacked just seven times? He has been sacked five times in two games, four allowed by right tackle Marcus Gilbert. Roethlisberger has one touchdown pass, two interceptions.Once among the league's best in creating more turnovers than giving them up, the Steelers have sunk toward the bottom of the NFL the past few years and stand 4-0 against them today.http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2014/09/13/Steelers-offense-shows-as-little-bite-as-defense/stories/201409130286 Quote

thesteelhurtin Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 The defense is extremely young and the game has simply passed DL by. Plenty of time to right the ship. Hopefully they make some changes to Thursday night football or at least stick to the rules that Goodell served to the owners to get them to approve it. Mainly the no same home team two years in a row. Quote

thesteelhurtin Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 For some reason I can't copy and paste from my phone. I can't find the actual article. I read right when they decided to go with a Thursday nighter every week. So far all I'm finding is how the NFL screwed the steelers last since they were on the road and Baltimore was at home the week before which also wasn't supposed to happen. When I get to a computer I will do some more digging and find it. Quote
vmax Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 Quite a few of the so-called preseason experts picked Pittsburgh to win the AFC North, but those expectations are too high. The Steelers kept veterans players around too long before inserting new talent. They still have a good head coach in Mike Tomlin and several outstanding skilled players in quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, running back Le'Veon Bell and receiver Antonio Brown, but there is no big hitter on defense. Safety Troy Polamalu is too old and the Steelers can't bring pressure off the edges consistently anymore. Besides, Roethlisberger looked terrible and the offense very gimmicky when the Steelers lost to the Ravens here last Thursday.Read more: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-preston-ravens-column-0916-20140915,0,4513822.column#ixzz3DT21nJeo He nailed it. thesteelhurtin Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 He nailed it.I fully agree with that. The offense is getting to big parts back this week in Moore and Archer.o Quote
thundercleetz Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 IMO the Steelers made an extremely stupid move letting go of Arians. Ben and Arians had a rare chemistry and Ben was a top 3-5 QB in the league with Arians. Arians got blamed for a poor run game due to Colbert's inability to rebuild the offensive line. Ben has been good, but the magic hasn't been there since Arians has left. I was very happy the day the Steelers "fired" Arians. He had our number every game, especially in the fourth quarter when the Steelers needed a big play. Quote
thesteelhurtin Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Yeah Arians has just had success wherever he's been he's sucks lol. Quote
cravnravn Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 The fans wanted Arians gone, they got their wish. This Mickey mouse shit that Haley runs is better suited for high school then the nfl. And on defense, they are very suspect at every position, when is the last time a Pitt team ever let a team back in the game after a 17 point lead? Quote

Arians is a very good coach. I think he would have had a HC job by now and not been in Pitt anyway. Quote
