papasmurfbell Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-preston-column-0307-20170306-story.html "I'm not quite sure of what they are doing," said one NFL agent. "They make initial contact and then they disappear like they are in this feeling-out process. They need to remember players aren't dying to play for the Ravens anymore like years ago. Their shine has somewhat faded."There are other concerns. In years past, the Ravens have cut players or made other moves seven to 10 days before free agency started, so the question is why haven't they cut veterans like cornerback Kyle Arrington ($2.1 million base salary in 2017) and outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil ($6 million) who are no longer major contributors to this team? Why haven't they renegotiated the contracts of both safety Lardarius Webb and tight end Dennis Pitta, who still have some value but are not worth the $5.5 million each is expected to receive in base salary in 2017? The Ravens haven't cut or restructured the contract of center Jeremy Zuttah. Does that mean they want him back after a below-average 2016 or will they pursue former New York Jets center Nick Mangold in free agency? Quote
tsylvester Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Each and all of those moves can be made at the same time as signing any other free agents. If you can't get a good price for the free agents may as well keep the ones you have. No need to panic Mikey, go get another box of donuts. Quote
oldno82 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 We'll see how much the Ravens are committed to winning by this time next week. So hold your horses. Quote
varaven45 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 True Crav But don't like the tone and message it sends. Ozzie and Co desperately need the pendulum of success to swing the right way. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 7, 2017 Author Posted March 7, 2017 What the agent said is not a good sign for the Ravens. Quote
tsylvester Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Ravens release Sharice Wright & Kendrik Lewis saving $4.9 mil in cap space. Quote
vmax Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 What the agent said is not a good sign for the Ravens. Use your ER Posters Code Book.Translated he's says, "I can't get them to roll over and give me the ridiculous money that I want." Quote
cravnravn Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Ravens release Sharice Wright & Kendrik Lewis saving $4.9 mil in cap space. So we are now at 14 mil under the cap? Quote
tsylvester Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 So we are now at 14 mil under the cap?I suppose close to that but I haven't followed the cap in years. This site appears to be accurate $13.8 top 51 salaries, $12 mil total with $8.5 in dead money. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/cap/ Quote
tsylvester Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Getting rid of Doom would save $6 mil, $2 mil in dead money, Suggs would save another $1 mil, $5.9 in dead money. Webb is a $7.5 cap hit, so there is either major savings by restructure or $5 mil in savings with a cut, $2mil in dead money. While Pita has a $7.5 mil cap hit and needs to be addressed, getting rid of Watson would also save $3 mil with $1 mil in dead money. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 8, 2017 Author Posted March 8, 2017 Use your ER Posters Code Book.Translated he's says, "I can't get them to roll over and give me the ridiculous money that I want."You think that the Ravens taking to an agent and then just never getting back is a good thing? Also the shine is off the team. Now the Ravens have to pay market prices for guys they want. Quote
tsylvester Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 So Doom is gone, takes the Ravens to $18 or so mil under... Maybe Jackson? Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 8, 2017 Author Posted March 8, 2017 The ravens need to fix the OL before they go after a WR. Also that comp pick would disappear. Quote
vmax Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 "Oh well! So much for your argument.... ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Baltimore is expected to sign the fifth-year safety, who was graded as one of the best safeties in the league last year. That would give the Ravens perhaps the top safety tandem in the NFL......Contract details have not been reported, but NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport tweeted that Jefferson left “money on the table from the Browns.”If Jefferson does sign, it’s a huge get for the Ravens, as he is considered one of the best free agents on the market and for sure the top safety. The Ravens came into the offseason looking to dramatically improve their secondary, and this would go a long way in helping to do that. Jefferson was the sixth-highest graded safety in the NFL last year, per Pro Football Focus. Eric Weddle received the second-highest grade. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 9, 2017 Author Posted March 9, 2017 Or Ozzie and Pat are giving him an offer he can't refuse. Quote
vmax Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Oh well!......... Jefferson was the top safety on the free-agent market, and was highly sought after by multiple teams. He joked that the first day of free agency is cool because a player gets to see what teams are interested. But once he found out Baltimore was in the mix, Jefferson headed that direction.“My love and passion match this organization,” Jefferson said....Jefferson reportedly turned down more money with the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets to join Baltimore, though he referred a question about that to his agent. Jefferson's passion for the game superceded money.“I really came here because I love to win,” he said. “I know this organization, that’s what they want. I’m excited and I look forward to the future.”...... Looks like the Shine hasn't faded.... “I wanted to come here because I believe in what this organization believes in, and that’s winning,” Woodhead said. “I hated these guys when I was in New England and lost the AFC championship game. Those are the teams you want to play for.”Woodhead noticed the “Play Like A Raven” mantra on the walls as he walked around the Under Armour Performance Center.“I want to play like a Raven and I think I’m going to,” he said. “I’m excited to play for this city because it seems like my type of city: go out and work hard, blue collar.”...http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Why-Tony-Jefferson-And-Danny-Woodhead-Chose-The-Ravens/366ad0ea-6e25-42e7-a8d8-e9948047f0c5 Quote

tsylvester Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 OK when was that? When wasn't it is more accurate. He has a long history of taking things out of context, blowing smoke to get people to read his stuff. I am not going to dig up the articles, I am sure you remember all the threads on the Ravens nest 2 board years ago discussing him. Quote
