tsylvester Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Bout time, he will stay on for now to help the transition to Decosta, been planned four years ago, his contract ends next season. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Like I have said. He has been there for these poor drafts and bad FA moves. Why do we think he will do better. So they are keeping with the status quo and expecting better results. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Steve was awful. The lying and spinning were ridiculous. Throw a wig and take the toner off and he will fit right in. Quote
tsylvester Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 Pees might have left because of their nepotism rule... Biscuit should tell Harbs about that rule... Yes Eric has been here for a long time, but Ozzie had the final call on the players.. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 No kidding about the nepotism rule. I said that on FB when he said it. I have said for some time I would ask what Eric would do differently. If he said nothing then I would not give him the spot. Harbs keeps Steve the gimp on a tight leash. Quote
tsylvester Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 This is Harbs' last chance, injuries are no longer an excuse, even if the Biscuit used it as one to defend all the defensive picks last year. Sure, no ultimatum, but saying;"he (Harbs) has more pressure on him than he ever has in his life is enough, no need to give him the playoffs or bust"... I think it is clear. I also think they he was being honest that they will target offensive weapons in free agency, and the draft. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Doesn't seem the Eagles used injuries as an excuse. Quote
tsylvester Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 Nope, but they would have had they not made it this far. Even if they lose Sunday, it will be; Wentz was not there... As I said, I think the writing is on the wall, no more excuses. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Did you miss the part about how they should have brought in outside, senior scouts? Instead of promoting within? I think that's pretty telling... Quote

As I said, I think the writing is on the wall, no more excuses.Sproles, Jason Peters, Sturgis, Hicks, Darby, Cox, and Maragos were all injured in addition to Wentz. That is 7 starters. Those are big. They made it past them. Quote
tsylvester Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 Did you miss the part about how they should have brought in outside, senior scouts? Instead of promoting within? I think that's pretty telling...Yeah, that had me scratch my head, over stating that a 25 year old can't tell a good player from a bad one, but a 35 year old could... He took some serious shots at Harbs & Ozzie, then throws out the nepotism line a few moments later... Quote
vmax Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 It will be sad to see Ozzie go. He had a huge hand in the success this franchise has had. Every team has down years, but not many have had as good a long term run as the Ravens have had. He's too young to go. He can build a Super Bowl winner somewhere else. When a franchise is successful then they get raided by the other franchises hoping to duplicate that success. The Ravens have been raided long and hard and it's been showing in the product that they put on the field. The CAP era does not allow them to keep the good players that they draft and develop. Without talent, no staff of coaches can put together a winner. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Then explain why the Pats have not fallen apart? Quote
tsylvester Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 Then explain why the Pats have not fallen apart?Wait and see what happens after this game. Both coordinators, qb coach, line coach all leaving. Oh and yes, they only have one of the best qbs of all time and a head coach who is also a brilliant football mind. So that has gottwn them this far but this may be it for them. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 They have been rolling for what 17 yrs? No I want you to make the case for why since their first SB they have not fallen off like you claim happens to successful teams? Quote
oldno82 Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Did you miss the part about how they should have brought in outside, senior scouts? Instead of promoting within? I think that's pretty telling... That produced some hope in me. Scouting has obviously sucked and needs a major overhaul. That's one of the GM's jobs and we'll find out how good Da Costa really is by how good the new infusion of offensive talent is. Unfortunately we are cap strung so that will play a part too. Max, Ozzie did build a great franchise here for quite a while. Until the last 2-3 years I was behind him. But the excitement level of the team and their swagger just vanished. Harbs had a lot to do with that. But Harbs worked for Ozzie and I think Oz could have done more to get a new coach and staff. While it would have been even more pleasing for him to announce getting a new coach and coaching staff at least I definitely got the feeling that this coming year is make or break for Harbs and friends. FWIW I'll give Da Costa a chance for one year. If it's more of the same I think then there will be a total organizational replacement. Or the fans will really revolt. Crappy GM's are a dime a dozen. There aren't many good ones under contract now let alone those looking for employment. That's why I say give Da Costa a chance to see if he runs a better show. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 When the time comes search NE and Philly for a GM. Quote
vmax Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 According to Preston Ozzie will still be very much involved.... Newsome told The Baltimore Sun that he will still basically make the personnel decisions for the team as far as the draft and free agency, and he will still be in the building every day once DeCosta takes over as general manager.Any talk of his retirement or demise is premature. “I don't know what my title will be, but I still we be a very big part of the organization, I'll be in the building and working with the team every day as usual," Newsome said. "This is all part of a five-year plan that I worked out with the owner near the end of my contract.“Eric will have the title of general manager, which is part of the transition, but there will be very little change. Right now, my focus is on getting ready for the draft, the combine and free agency.”....http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/ravens-insider/bs-sp-newsome-20180202-story.html The whole article is very revealing. They are committed to upgrading the scouting department. They admit that all the raiding has taken a toll and that they failed to address their losses. Quote
tsylvester Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 I give them credit for trying to stay loyal and promote from with in, but just like their replay guy who tells Harbs to challenge obvious plays he will lose, they had to see those scouts were not very good. We did, and Ozzy having say still does not make me feel any better about this team especially since he could not see that those scouts were not very good at judging talent... Quote
tsylvester Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 Seems to me, the scouts are Ozzie's scape goat Quote

Quote
vmax Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Seems to me, the scouts are Ozzie's scape goat This explains a big part of the problem but it does not excuse Ozzie. He should have been aware of the drain and drop off of talent in the scouting department and been pro-active.That's a fail. Quote
RavenMad Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 This is purely my take but I don’t believe we have been the same since the Ray Rice incident. We have clearly prioritised character and shied away from anyone that might be a “challenge” to authority. The last risk we took was probably Jimmy Smith and that worked out OK although we could have had Dez Bryant that draft. I think that each team has a player or 2 on each side of the ball that plays with an edge and we have lost that along the way. Once Suggs is gone who is left on the D you would class as a leader? Once Boldin was traded we lost the last attitude player from the O and it shows. Some players are just greater than the sum of the physical parts of their game and we have become gun shy in replacing that attitude. Quote
oldno82 Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Yeah the same thoughts cross my mind. The Ray Rice debacle started a long decline and we have not signed any 'attitude' guys since the last Super Bowl. In fact the emphasis has been the opposite regardless of talent. I have gotten the impression that Harbaugh hates to deal with any challenges to his authority and way of thinking. Hence, stagnation. Seems to me that the F.O. has given Harbs way too much say on roster construction. We did better before he won a Super Bowl on how the roster was made up and that was Ozzie's show. Harbaugh seems to have been a failure in developing new talent and hiring good coaching personnel. I really do think B. should have cut him loose after last season. I think he will after next season. Like Billick before him I think it's just time to cut him loose. His message is stale. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 I think it is the revolt. Since then I don't think Harbs challenges. I think Rice hitting his GF just happened to be around the same time. Quote
