papasmurfbell Posted September 8, 2019 Author Posted September 8, 2019 And he is one player. They dont have much talent on that team. If Fitz had some talent around him it might have actually been a competitive game. Quote
vmax Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 No argument the Dolphins are the worst team in the NFL. May the worst team in the last few years.Nevertheless....the Ravens did better than good teams do against such competition. They buried them.I'm very, very impressed with this 2019 roster and coaches.Game ball went to Eric. Oh...the Browns did what the Browns do.... Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 8, 2019 Author Posted September 8, 2019 That is exactly what they were supposed to do. The problem with the ravens of the not so distant past was they played with these loser teams instead of burying them in the endzone. Quote
vmax Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 True.Another first. A ravens team that didn't play down to the competition. The culture has changed. Part of that is Lamar. He's obsessed with scoring TD's. More firsts... In a 59-10 season-opening rout of the Miami Dolphins, Jackson produced the best passer rating (158.3) in Baltimore Ravens history and Brown became the first player in NFL history with multiple 40-yard touchdowns in his career debut.Editor's Picks 'Mr. Video Game': Ravens' Lamar Jackson makes special homecomingFor those wondering whether Jackson could become an effective passer in the league, he led the Ravens to their largest margin of victory with his arm instead of his legs, completing 17 of 20 passes for 324 yards and five touchdowns in three quarters of work. His five touchdown passes -- one short of his total in seven starts last season -- tied a Ravens mark. For those worried about Brown's surgically repaired foot, the rookie first-round pick scored touchdowns of 47 and 83 yards on his first two catches. His 147 yards receiving are the sixth most in an NFL debut and the most in a debut since 2003. ....https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/27570237/jackson-brown-make-history-ravens-opener Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 8, 2019 Author Posted September 8, 2019 I need to see how they do against real competition. If they are still successful in weeks 3-5 then we know they have something. Quote
vmax Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 They did damn well against good competition just running the ball last year.Today Lamar was throwing Johnny U passes. All of them. If he was off or 50-50 there would be concern. He's answered the bell. He's a solid NFL QB. Oh....no turnovers. It's very safe to say this is no longer a 1 dimensional team. Every D co-coordinator in the league will lose sleep for the week before a Ravens game.Certainly it's very early to tell. Usually after 4 games you have a good gauge on a team. They will do fine. For now it's safe to say Ravens fans are happy as shit.... Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 8, 2019 Author Posted September 8, 2019 Lamar has always been good throwing long over the middle. HE was not really tested on deep sidelines. Harbs said they kept a lot under their hat bc Mia played so poorly. So maybe we will see it later. Comparing Lamar to Johnny U is very premature. Quote
tsylvester Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 Lamar was outstanding today, great touch, accuracy, field view, no one could have done better. The line was dominant, backs were quick, wide outs & tight ends caught & tracked well. Defense was very good but they also got a little lucky if you will. A shame to lose Smith for the year, likely. The linebackers still struggle with man coverage, the rush can't get the pressure on without a blitz. Just somethings to keep in mind as we move forward and is the offensive line for real or was their success due to a team not ready to play? Quote

All in all a really good performance from the team. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 8, 2019 Author Posted September 8, 2019 That Mia D is awful. Zona is bad too. So week 3-5 is going to say a lot about this team and the OL. Quote

vmax Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 All good questions T. Let's keep our fingers crossed on Jimmy.... Head Coach John Harbaugh announced after the win that the injury is not expected to put Smith’s season in jeopardy.“It’s not a season ending injury, as far as we know right now,” Harbaugh said. “It does not look like that at all. I’m sure he’ll get an MRI tomorrow. We’ll just have to see if it’s days, or weeks, or what. We’ll know tomorrow when we get the MRI.” A good sign, however, was that Smith was back standing on the sidelines by the end of the game.......https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/cornerback-jimmy-smith-does-not-have-season-ending-knee-injury Not that happy with the coverage, yet it was only 176 yards surrendered.Lost in all this is the defense against the run...Phish 21 attempts for 12 yards.... ....1.8 ypc. vmax Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 (edited) Ravens Records.... ... The Ravens opened the 2019 season with a 59-10 win over the Miami Dolphins. Along the way, multiple records were set, both personal and for the franchise. Here are some of the most notable stats from Sunday’s lopsided victory.324 passing yardsIn the debut of the Ravens’ new offense under coordinator Greg Roman, quarterback Lamar Jackson set a career high for passing yards, exceeding the 204 he threw against the Chargers in Week 16 last season. Jackson’s five touchdown passes also tied the franchise’s single-game record. What they’re saying about the Ravens’ season-opening win »147 receiving yardsThe NFL debut for rookie wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown couldn’t have gone better. Brown’s first two catches went for touchdowns, 47 and 83 yards, respectively. oldno82 Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 Yep it was great to watch and like Papasmurf said, they demolished a crummy team like they should have done in the past. If Jackson gets thay time to throw he'll kill you. Nice touch on deep passes and hitting receivers in stride so many times was dazzzling. Defense put pressure on Fitz all game. The Ravens were superbly coached for this game too. But we can't crown them yet. Let's see how they do against better competition. Oh, the last laugh is that we are the only team in the AFC North to win today. WTF happened to Cleveland and Pittsburgh? The Steelers play was shockingly bad. Ben look old and tired. Quote

vmax Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 Yeah, Miami stinks. It won't always (ever?) be this easy. But the kid still made plays and made them under duress. He's building confidence (not that he ever lacked it). And the reality is, this is still probably the best running team in the NFL; their intricate run scheme demand bodies in the box, and Brown and Myles Boykin and Hurst and Andrews on the field at the same time is going to be a problem for opposing defenses. The play-action game is going to be a killer, and Jackson is going to be a highly-prolific passer.............https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/give-lamar-jackson-the-credit-he-deserves-and-surprising-week-1-storylines-that-will-prove-true-in-2019/ Quote
