papasmurfbell Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 On this day of unearned honor being bestowed will history repeat itself? Billick was about to get fired but got help and turned things around for a season. Then promptly gets fired the very next yr when things go back to the level things were. He got a new extention before that firing. Everything seems to be lining up just like that for Harbs. Quote

Harbs should go by mid season but he has something on Biscutt. Proof- Harbs lays the riot act on the defense after the wide open wr near the end of the half. Defense comes out of half time and gives up five more plays like that... This team has no discipline, too many in game mistakes by Harbs and his coaching staff, the players see it, know it and there is no accountability for him. Is it any wonder they play the way they do? I said this after the Arizona game, this team is not good enough to play with good teams, only bad ones. Why? Coaching, personnel moves and maybe even the one they tried to make but did not happen; 1 st, 2nd and player for an undisciplined player.. Hmmm They might win 6-7 games but this is not a playoff team nor is there any real reason to think they are close. This, with the league haing a down year with all the injuries to high profile players and retirements, rookie, first year qbs this year. Harbs, Wink, all the coaches need to go, burn it down, start over. There are a few good young players on this squad... Quote

vmax Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 This is a nonsense thread. If you keep predicting certain things will go bad and end, then you are sure to be right. Everything eventually ends and changes. Lamar was a great pick. He has done nothing but electrify this team, league and city. He's going to be great. There is plenty to build upon with this Ravens roster. It's obvious what pieces are missing from making them a playoff contender.Fix it. Get better players. Build around the core that exists. Quote
varaven45 Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Max, Thanks for your glass half full approach. Its appreciated. The team evolves, problems are solved, issues are addressed. Life moves on ! Hey, it could be much worse. Look at our O's. They lose a 100 + games second year in a row. But hey, they've got a GM who came from a successful Astros team and is starting to figure stuff out and develop some young talent. They've got a nice crop of exciting young players. I know I'm off topic/thread here but simply making a positive point. Quote

GrubberRaven Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 The D is the problem. The ability to communicate and work as a unit is gone. That went with Weddle/Suggs/Mosley. Earl Thomas is a fucking goon..hate that signing now. Quote
tsylvester Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Grub, the defense had the same issues for the past few years; people put of position, blowing coverages. This is why I don't think it is the players.... Quote
tsylvester Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Oh and the Browns had 3 new dbs in their line-up after only a week of practice, yet there were no communication issues with their coverage... Hmmmm Quote
varaven45 Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Hmmm is right. Did we already sign Jalen Ramsey and was he playing in our secondary yesterday ? Quote
GrubberRaven Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 You blame Wink/Harbs? When I read that Jefferson was getting the mic, I pretty much assumed we were screwed... Quote
tsylvester Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 You blame Wink/Harbs? When I read that Jefferson was getting the mic, I pretty much assumed we were screwed...Yep, what other reason could there be if the last 3 years have had the same issues with Jefferson, Weddle were in the secondary only to have Weddle gone this year and have the same issues? I know Jefferson is terrible in coverage, and had the mic on this week, but Thomas know how to cover and he is smart enough to play a lot of coverages no matter what he is used to from Seattle. So the common denominator is Wink, Harbs. This team has lacked discipline no matter who the players are since Harbs took over. I know, his winning record and Super Bowl win over shadow the penalties, missed assigments on offense and defense. But his in game management has been terrible from the start. One would think with experience he would get better, but he has not. Wins are great, but it clearly has come at a cost and this defense, has shown that eventually, it catches up to you. Let us not forget the violations of practice rules, minor on their own, even silly, but when bunched together like pixels, make a clear picture.. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Fair and thanks for the link in the other thread. What a mess. I kind of assumed Thomas, when signed, would lead with the mic, but I guess he's not that guy? Quote
tsylvester Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 I guess Wink just thought Jefferson earned it or deserved it because of his familiarity with the system... Quote
vmax Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Oh and the Browns had 3 new dbs in their line-up after only a week of practice, yet there were no communication issues with their coverage... Hmmmm That is damning evidence. The Browns can do it but the Ravens can't. Agree with Thomas is a bust. He physically doesn't have it anymore. Mentally....this D must be too complicated for him.Jefferson is a liability. It's the '96 Ravens secondary. Quote

tsylvester Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Pie in the sky. Last season's defensive numbers were 100+ yards better because of the number of snaps they faced. They faced fewer snaps last year, per game, than they have this year. The Ravens offense has had fewer snaps per game this year, TOP, some of that due to big play strikes, some because of mistakes on offense; but largely due to the defense's inability to get off the field. So it is a symbiotic relationahip, sure. If the offense keeps the ball longer, the defense is less exposed. Sure, the number's should improve for the defense in this scenario. They also should improve when they face bad teams; the only teams either offense or defense has been able to perform against. The yards gained against Cleveland were stocked; most gained when the game was over. Over the course of a season no big deal. But over 4 games, it skews the stats, that is where the writer went wrong... Quote
tsylvester Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 To add, it only took the NFL a season and a half to catch up to Greg Roman's offense with Colin Kaepernik. He is running the same offense with a qb of similar skill set. Now granted, Kaep had his issues with throwing the ball, no very accurate down field or outside the numbers and no real touch on passes. So, currently that describes Lamar, but he is quicker and faster than Kaep. So only time will tell if Lamar over comes those throwing issues, & if he does, will the league catch up to Roman's offense, or will it not matter because Lamar will be a legit, complete quarterback..... Quote
vmax Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 (edited) I agree that time will tell. It's still too early to get a true read but so far defenses haven't caught up.This is interesting.... No offense in the NFL has improved more since last season than the Ravens’. And no defense in the NFL has regressed more since last season than the Ravens’....With both former starter Joe Flacco and Jackson at the helm in 2018, the Ravens averaged 374.9 yards per game, ninth most in the NFL. Even after Sunday’s 40-25 loss to the Cleveland Browns, they still lead the NFL with 482.5 yards per game — an increase of 107.6 yards per game. No other offense has managed to improve even 100 yards per game......https://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-ravens-offense-defense-20191001-cjrepikjrzdzbbvmiczwranyla-story.html Edited October 1, 2019 by vmax Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 1, 2019 Author Posted October 1, 2019 Gruber posted that for us hrs ago. Theo debunked it to a degree. Quote
tsylvester Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 I keep saying it because everyone keeps bringing up the loss of Mosely, Suggs, Weddle. This defense had the same issues the last few years as they have this year. So how is losing an over rated linebacker who can't cover, an old rush end who can't rush any more (though he did keep the edge) and an older safety who couldn't run any more a loss? How is it a reason for over a 1,000 yards in 2 games? Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 1, 2019 Author Posted October 1, 2019 But Mosley could tackle. He also called the correct plays. While he might not hav been great executinbg them he know where ppl should be. The replacements are worse than who was let go. Quote
