thundercleetz Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Just joking I meant the statue. Would Ray Lewis be wearing his brace that looks like a robotic arm. Quote

ForceEight Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Maybe I'm being the jerk here, but I'm not entirely on board with the whole statue thing yet. At the very least, I don't want to talk about it for a few years. Quote

ForceEight Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 why is there a need to wait? I just want to hear your view on why waitMy best reasoning is countering with "why now?" I just think we all need to calm down and let things fall into perspective before we build a statue for someone. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 But he is the arguably the best MLB ever. One of the greatest players ever. He deserves a statue. JO should have one too. Quote

He's been the face of the Ravens for 17 years. a first ballot hall of famer. 2 time DPOY Superbowl MVP and 2 time Superbowl champ. none of that will change. So why wait? what are you waiting for? Him to die? Quote
Spen Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I do not completely disagree with Force here, I dont have a problem with the statue at all and think given the others we have here I think he should get one. However I would not have been upset if they would have waited some time before announcing it, or planning it. It was announced 3 days after he retired, I would have waited a year or so. I wont go as far to say the way it was done bothers me, its just not how I would have handled it. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 He also doesn't want to pooch screw it like Peter did for all those yrs. Quote
vmax Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 (edited) Somebody in the media started this by asking Steve about a statue of Ray. He said something like "certainly in the next year or two"....it's not like they just came out with a planned announcement so soon. Here's the statue I want... A reporter asked if a statue of Lewis was something that may go up around M&T Bank Stadium.Owner Steve Bisciotti left little doubt that a Lewis statue would soon be coming to Baltimore.“The fact that you said ‘maybe,’” Bisciotti said, referencing the question, “I’ll say absolutely maybe. Yeah. We have to work that out.”Getting a Lewis statue outside of the stadium is only a matter of time and finding the right place to put it, Bisciotti said.“I think he set himself apart in Baltimore sports history and we will certainly look into it,” Bisciotti said. “I would not be surprised if there is one there in the next year or two.”http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Ray-Lewis-Won’t-Coach-Will-Get-Statue/8518c193-f19b-43e5-881a-e83aad595012 Edited February 14, 2013 by vmax Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 I can't think of a statue where a oposition player gets in it too. But if you did I like these a little more. The other would be where Ray knocked Eddie George out. Quote

I just prefer letting time decide what happens rather than initial emotion. Quote
OutsideRzAcE Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 What Max said...they didn't really announce the statue, Steve B was just answering a question. As far as doing it in the next few years - I thinks since there is no doubt he has one coming anyway, that there is no point in waiting some arbitrary amount of time before putting one up. I don't think JO deserves one though....not even sold on Ed Reed. I don't want them to overdo this like they did the ring of honor, but Ray certainly deserves it. Quote

Spen Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I prefer it to be an on the field pose, not a dance pose. I like the crouched one from earlier in the thread. Quote
dc. Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 FoxBaltimore had a feature a few weeks ago with the guy who did the Unitas statue... it was pretty neat. First, they were talking about how Johnny U said he only wanted a statue if they promised that others would be there one day too. But also, Johnny got to approve the final pose (not uncommon - all the O's did as well this past year, I think). So the sculptor, perhaps just to get his name in the running or perhaps because he's the official Ravens guy, was already working on a few poses. The one they showed was the end of the dance. It looked good. I think I would prefer the 'set' before the play pose, though. That's how I always envision Ray - staring over the center into the QB's eyes and reading the play. http://www.foxbaltimore.com/news/features/top-stories/stories/how-baltimore-ravens-honor-one-their-greatest-players-ray-lewis-17802.shtml#.USD-XqU4uSo Quote
