This team has three awesome CBs, one of which will be light years better than last. This defense is still poised to make some plays even with the loss of Suggs. Upshaw is going to be a monster.
-
The line with Pryce etc are not from the past. Papa can argue and argue and argue but the fack remains. 50/50 is a good thing for FAs. End of story. There's easily somewhere close to 50/50 on FA pickups. We don't go after the high-priced guys because they rarely pay off.
-
Now there's a man that speaks some sanity. Give him a beer!
-
Honestly, you guys act like this team isn't already very deep. Who or what position is in such a great need? Secondly if it is a great need, who is so available and so good that we need to go get them? WR looks 10x better this year than last. Our line my be struggling, but honestly, how early is it? There's alot of time to get guys together and get this thing to work.
-
Who do we need? As far as Lee Evans goes, he doesn't get injured I bet we're all singing a different tune. That's a wash as far as I'm concerned. Injuries are what they are. The drop is frustrating yes, but it's not like he said, "you know what, I'm a pathetic player and a low person, I think I'll drop the game winner". He put in a good effort and was unlucky.

Now that's a retro way to lose weight! Sounds extremely dangerous lol.

We don't sign high priced FAs. We go after the middle and bottom of the pile. It makes sense because the FAs at the top of the list ALWAYS want more money. So we get a 50/50 deal. I'm ok with that cuz our meat and potatoes are home grown, just like every other succesful team in the NFL. Ask the eagles and redskins how getting the big FAs works.
-
I don't care when we sign him, we will sign him. We've always locked up players that we've deemed very valuable. Rice certainly falls into that category. And honestly, if there is an injury during the season, how many times do you have to sign someone that costs a ton. And....we depth at nearly every position. If there is an injury, next man up. Rice will be resigned before he's a FA, so will Flacco. (Unless one or more gets injured) My guess, with Rice, they'll sign during the season.
-
Crav when did you become Negative Nancy? You've always been upbeat and positive in the past. I remember a time when you even thought Travis Taylor was good! (I made arguments for Boller, we're not all perfect lol) What do we need cap room for this year? We have a solid stacked team. This front office is going to get the deals done for Rice and Flacco. They always do. Always. They're just prudent about doing it and that keeps us from giving out ludicrous contracts on a regular basis. Cmon man, get them purple shades back. It's so much more fun!

More useless info from the slow season. How bout we let training camp start before we start to get all up in a fuss.

All FA pickups are inconsistent.........follow me now, that's why they are FAs. We don't go after big name FAs, it's very rare. We were just as inconsistent in our past as we are now at finding FA. Very weak argument. Every team has weaknesses. Birk has done what needed to be done based on what we had available to get. 4 playoff trips is evidence of this. Two straight 12 win seasons is evidence of this. Birk was not the reason we did not win it all. So, in conclusion.......our front office is pretty good at picking up FAs. Not flawless, but pretty good. We've done as good a job as anybody with retred vets. Maybe.....not follow me......just maybe......that's why we're holding out Bryant. Hmmmmm, the ways of Harbaugh are so very perplexing.
-
Push a vet lineman to perform in mini camp in May and June huh? Sometimes I question people's logic. Honestly, if you want to maximize a veteran, why would you push them outside of what they do and risk injury? Training camp is for building cohesion. Mini camps are for looking at what you have, getting guys in shape, and most importantly getting a look at the rooks. Bryant has little to gain going out there now. This isn't his first rodeo as others have stated. Bryant was good the second half of the season and it stands to reason if he's in better shape now than last year, that trend should continue. And ya'll wonder why Harbs doesn't want to talk to the media about injuries and such.

You know, where did anyone state that they didn't miss on a FA? Honestly, sometimes I feel like people are just here to go oh oh oh.....you're wrong! Nuh uh. Quickly it was brought up on the FA that we missed on. Fine. Housch: We didn't expect much from him, he was cut from the Seahawks. He was brought for Vet leadership. He provided that. He was not brought here to catch 50 balls. Period. His drop albeit untimely was not the deciding factor in that game. He did what the FO expected him to do. Be able to contribute as a 3rd or 4th receiver. Evans: How could we see an injury in pre-season coming? Crystal ball aside this would have been a great pick up if he stayed healthy. Hindsight....so because of injury you can't make a determination here. The drop, untimely and disappointing. Just wanted to point those two things out. Now let's talk about some other FAs. Birk McGahee Pollard Leech Goose Adams Wilson (cb) I know there's more. All guys that did contribute to the team. My point is, there have been plenty of FA's that have done very well here. The FO has done very well in this dept. You can't expect them to never miss. It's an unrealistic expectation especially when you consider the talent pool that they're pulling from. They're going through the retreds. Guys that were cut and injured. To hit even 50% of the time is in my opinion very good. We don't go after big name FAs. We fill those holes through the draft and resign the players worth resigning. Thinking about it, McGahee was a trade and yes compared to his contract you could have expected more. However he was a contributor. Just saying, if we're talking about whether the FO does well with FAs let's look at this deeper than just going....."nooooooo these guys sucked!" Hitting on FAs isn't that easy. If it was, GMs wouldn't get paid as much as they do.

The Ravens' have done a good job of hitting on their FA vet signings. I wish Reid was more ready to step-up. Disappointing.

Why would we be pushing a veteran lineman into early mini camp stuff if they need a few extra days. Fact when we get old, we need a little more time physically than the young pups. Just the way it is. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed both frequently take time off during mini camps and training camp. Fact, Bryant showed up last year grossly overweight and worked his way into our lineup and played admirably. Let's not make a mountain out of a molehill. This really isn't a big deal if Harbs says it isn't a big deal. Harbs doesn't talk to the media about this stuff because it doesn't belong in the media. The reporters are just looking for a juicy piece of something to get the fans all worked up about. I trust that when a vet is being held out of some kind of practice that the coaching staff is making a educated informed decision. What reason do we have to doubt the staff's decisions? I can't think of too many, we've been awfully successful.
-
I specifically read "if he is here next year". Perhaps it would be better to say that didn't come out the way I meant it? Cuz that was pretty clear.
-
Aaron Rodgers looked like crap against the Giants in the AFC Championship game. He needs to get the Super Bowl every year. Now that he hasn't....fire him. I don't care that he's made the team better and he wins. If he doesn't get a Super Bowl he should be dismissed. Focusing on one game can make one look very silly.
-
Ask the Vikings how they feel about not having Dennis Green anymore. They made the playoffs something like 7-10 yrs in a row. It wasn't good enough. Consistency wasn't valued, Dennis had to go. Since then where has that team been? They've had what 2 playoff appearances? My point is, be careful what you wish for. Change doesn't automatically mean success. Fact....with Cam our offense has been better than ever in Ravens history and fact.....we've been winning games. So, until that stops, AND it's his fault. Poor gameplanning, inefficiency in the redzone, failure to adjust, and failure to create an offense around his players' strengths, we likely won't change what's going on there. If winning the Super Bowl is the goal.....consistency is what will get you there.
-
I'm not a Cam supporter, but our offense has improved while he has been here. We didn't lose much, so until we do, it' will be tough to replace him. The thing is, you can always make a case to fire any coach if you only concentrate on the losses. And we lost fewer games than most of the league. So, using the how he performed in the losses also means we have to address how he performed in the wins. I think it's more important to look at his failure to adjust at halftime and his inability to create an offense that plays to his players' strengths. For instance, how many WR screens has Boldin been able to work? It's a specialty of his. Instead I see Boldin being asked to run 20-25 yds to get open. This isn't what Boldin is good at. Instead Boldin excels underneath. Just one example.

Offseason Breakdown: Baltimore Ravens
yagersports replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
The Steelers keep on keeping on, but us making the playoffs four years straight isn't a similar achievement? I'm not gonna argue who's had more success, that's clear. The Steelers have won Super Bowls. However to view us as a team that isn't consistent? We went to the AFC championship game with a rookie QB! Ahhhh well, it's always no lover in Bmore lol lol lol. -
Don't believe it. Suggs playing at all will be a miracle. Even with a partial tear, that injury is just unbelievably hard to heal.
-
According to yourself Ozzie routinely misses and does the wrong things with FAs, Draft, etc. Yet Harbaugh keeps winning. Hmmmmm. I'm sure you'll change the subject again lol.
-
So if Jason Garret gets credit for turning a bad team around, why doesn't Harbaugh? He did, period. It wasn't Rex. Rex fielded a great D no doubt, but it was Harbaugh that has created this current environment of excellence. It's Harbaugh that has created consistency. As far as the "I want a Super Bowl yesterday...and if I don't get it I'm gonna wine and cry and Harbaugh sucks" attitude, get over it. Super Bowls aren't so easily won. They're won by the people that persevere. They're won by men that stay the course. They're won by guys that understand that victory in and of itself is never giving up. The people that think the Super Bowl is the only way to judge a coach or team are sad individuals that don't understand competition, leadership, or life.
-
I don't understand the Harbs doubt. He took a rookie QB and a team that everyone wrote off to the AFC championship game. He's made the playoffs every year he has coached and he's made some great mid-season adjustments with offense and defense. You know he was the one that forced Cam's hand when it came to giving Rice the ball. You know he was the one that stressed that we needed to rush the QB more when we had the bend but don't break offense. Most importantly, he sticks by his guys creating the most stable environment possible. And that my friends breeds consistency and success. He's a motivator and he keeps people focused. That's a head coach's job. Let the coordinators do what coordinators do. Even the great Belichek has made some bone headed calls at the end of a few games. Harbs rights the ship all season long keeping it on course. Then, he reassesses and re-evaluates his staff each off season. Bringing in guys he thinks can contribute in the future while promoting from within. That's all great stuff guys. Let's not forget how long it took the Chin to win one. Or Vermeil. Or Coughlin. I don't think anyone can say they were bad coaches. Winning the big one typically takes time and it's done in environments that have a good captain. Harbs knows how to be a captain.

McAlister could still be playing if he would have worked on his mental game. It's too bad. Cmac and Reed could have made a deadly combo at Safety. I know he was a corner, I'm just assuming that Cmac could have made the transition from CB to Safety ala Woodsen.
