During the 50s and 60s defenders could do anything to a receiver they wanted including mugging and maiming until the ball was in the air. After that no contact was allowed. Then the bump and run was started by Willie Brown of the Raiders with the old AFL. Those recivers got mugged all the way down the field and continued til recently when they began changing the rules. There's a vid some where on the net of Ben Davidson kicking Unitas in the stomach. A penalty was called on that and when a Bear did a belly flop on John's back as John was sprawled out on his stomach. He was called but should have been thrown out of the game. Unitas got even. On the next play he told Jim Paker, his tackle, to let the guy thrugh. Jim said what - John said just let him come in on me. He daid and John threw the ball in his nuts from point blank range at 100 mph. They had to carry him off the field. There were no such penalties like we saw Sunday. Today's game is bigger and faster but these pussies couldn't begin to play with those old guys. One guy almost drowned on a field in NY. The grass was all worn off by October and it was a dirt field. It rained all day and was muddy. There was a big puddle of water when Frank Gifford was tackled and piled on. His head was actually pushed under the water and he almost drowned. A teammate held it up til everyone got off.

Exactly and like I posted above, Ravens always go away from the run when it's working, just like Sunday and just like in the 06 playoffs with Billick. They've always done that. Drives me nuts. And as you say that game should have never been influenced by Lee Evans.
-
As soon as Jimmy was carted off I said game over. I still reflect on the Lee Evans drop 25 seconds til the Super Bowl and what might have been. Then Billy Goat's FG miss after that. Plenty of chances to go to the SB and we missed. That was our SB and we would have won it. That 2011 Ravens team was better than the 2012 team that won it. That was our SB window. These 1 or 2 plays go way back to when Billick was here and blowing the 06 playoffs calling for a pick up the middle and he didn't run Jamal who begged him to. That was also our SB. Ozzie should have at least 2 more rings with all the talent he gave his coaches but 1 or 2 plays kept him from getting them.

Dalton checked down on that 4th down play. It was a ballsy move. Anyone one of us could have run it in. Pees was outcoached there. There were a lot more plays than 1 or 2 that effected the outcome - 27 points worth of plays with Sanu making a long catch in the first half and a flea flicker for them in the 2d half for a long game putting them on the short field both times. Then there were the drives - a long drive at the end with some good plays by Dalton who seems to save his best for us. There were some freak plays where Joe throws a pick at the top of the 2d half because he threw to the area where Torrey was supposed to be but Torrey never gets there because he pulled up lame and the ball is intercepted. There were 3 Bengals around the ball, no Ravens. There was also their goal line stand vs Ravens that worked because Aiken dropped the ball. Joe put it in there for him, a little low, but he dropped it. It was like the pass to Boldin several years ago in Piss that he dropped. It was a little low but Boldin said he should have had it. Besides all the bad plays by Ravens there was so much bad coaching like the goal line stand above and they stopped running once again. Taliaferro was like a bull and they stopped using him. Cinci fans were greatful. Ravens always seem to abandon the run when it's working and go pass crazy. This goes back to Billick. Another play and It was funny but during the press conf a reporter asked HARBs about going for it instead of kicking a FG and getting 3. HARBs said what happened next. Reporter said they got the ball. HARBs said what happened next. Reporter said they didn't go far and punted. HARBs said what happened next? Reporter said Ravens get the ball. HARBs said what happened next. Tucker gets the FG. BINGO! HARBS STILL GOT 3 POINTS IN HIS WAY OF THINKING. ILMAO. Again, we haven't matched up vs their DBs for the past couple of years which is why they've been beating us last 3 of 4 games. Don't forget that when you say 1 or 2 plays. It was a lot more than that but you're right, we were still in it at the end and with our best 2 corners out of the game.
-
Exactly, and he's a little dude too. He looks like a midget compared to the linemen but he's a tough muther who out muscles people. Most of the time he gets away with it. Sunday he didn't. As far as the throw, did you notice that Joe was under pressure. I mean, everyone knew he had to pass so here's a recap of the play. 47 seconds left with ball on the 20. Joe takes snap from shot gun. 45 seconds Joe sets up to pass. Nobody is open as SR is still running down the sideline. Big #98 of Bengals pushes Wagner straight into Joe who steps up in pocket. Joe bumps into Zuttah as pocket collapses. Joe rolls to his right and throws on the run, not setting up properly but ball goes from his 18 down to the Bengals 23 yard line in the air when SR caught the ball with 39 seconds left. Most QBs only get 2 secs to throw. We lost the game when Jimmy left. They really picked on Franks especially on their last TD drive. Brooks was also in the game and didn't do well. Julio Jones scored on Franks last week. As TSylvester has been saying all year, the secondary is in deep poop.
-
LOL - You beat me to it about the shades. Smurf missed the part where SR grabbed the jersey with both hands. He's been doing that since he got here and really going back his entire career and gets away with it a lot but not Sunday. That's because he usually uses one hand to] push off on. Like the announcer in Tampa said, his hand is so fast that the Refs don't even see it as he caught a long TD after pushing off and knocking the guy down. I was shocked when I saw it but Sunday he used both hands and the Refs were there to see it. They were looking for it. There was a similar play in week 1 here, that the Refs didn't call so chalk it up to home field advantage. Smurf - now go look at it again especially where SR grabs the jersey with both hands with the REf right therYea, the defender did some play acting but it wasn't needed because was still an obvious push and knock down. You just can't do that but SR does and it finally caught up to him at the wrong time for us. In a final note, the NFL has made rule changes that favor the WR and the passing game because that's what sells the game but there are no rules allowing receivers to throw the DB down with both hands at least not yet. I'm sure it's coming. LOL
-
Yea, Joe has set this franchise back 5 years. OOOPs - that was Boller.
-
Supernaw has no receptions whatsoever while targeted frequently in camp. This could change. He played for Kubes and the Ravens TE coach in Houston and knows the system. That's why he was brought in, same as Forsett and Daniels who have great success in the past and this year in the system.
-
I wouldnt put it that easy but we are better and we were better in week 1 but had a new offense that was never used before, new players, Webbie was out and Joe brought Ravens back for the lead in 4th qtr only to lose it seconds later and he brought us back again but was sacked at the end. That told me we were the better team even in the loss. We should win tomorrow but I'm not betting on it.

Someone said tonight that Green is definitely out.
-
On Tuesday Ravens were 1.5 - 2 pt under dogs. Today they are 2 - 2.5 favorites. How did that happen? Because Green is listed as questionable and because Monroe and KO are expected to play?
-
True on all points but that injury report is for the bookies and doesn't tell the story. Green is listed as questionable and according to this article is still a week away and even if he does play with turf toe which is very painful and you can't push off on it he wont be flying down the side line like in week 1 but like you said about a wounded animal in a corner. You're spot on about road games which is the point I made in another forum. All that said, check out all these probables with neck injuries, back, knees and what not. A wounded animal for sure but I still like our chances with the offense so hot and the defense dominating. We have our probables in key positions too like MOnroe, KO and Webbie and our 2 TEs are definitely OUT with a rookie starting and a 2d year guy, KJ, filling in. http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/post/_/id/81654/a-j-green-listed-as-doubtful-for-sundays-game

To date, Gilmore has been targeted 3 times with 3 receptions for 29 yds. That's an average of 9.7 yds pr catch with 13 yds being his longest gain and he was called an above average blocker and the best 2-way TE in the draft. http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16775/crockett-gillmore
-
Not really and I love KJ at TE. There was even some talk of his playing H-Back. He has good hands as he has shown already. Bengals still have those linebackers hurting so Gilmore and KJ can still get a mis-match on one over the middle but they'll be used mostly as a blocker. Like I posted, Kubes needed more blocking at that pick. Also, Geno Atkins is hurting and his backup is really bad. Hurst can handle him if he plays. As someone posted, Monroe and KO are listed as possible. So if Hurst plays, they can get Gilmore to assist him on Geno or he can go alone vs backup. They're more banged up than us. A Cinci fan on another Ravens board thinks we're gonna win.
-
He's made a play or two the few times he's been in and he helped out Hurst with blocking at least during the first game. Prob was, they didn't give Hurst any help during the Indy game they lost. Anyway, does anyone remember in the war room on draft day when Gilmore's name came up? That was the round where Browns jumped in front of Ravens, Minn and Piss to draft the local favorite Terrence West from Towson U. So when he was off the board at the 99th pick, Kubes turned to Ozzie and said I need blocking so Gilmore's name was picked. Kubes knew all about him because his sons were his teammates in college and he's from Houston. Gilmore was a big Daniels fan growing up and was excited to be a teammate. That's how the story goes but me thinks Gilmore will be a good one. We'll find out fast enough.
-
He's missed some practices which have fans worried. He had some leg issues before he signed and contemplated retirement. Kubes said he's OK. John Harbaugh has a plan for the old vet. Sounds like he's resting him during practice. Smart move by HARBs. It's been all over twitter. @RavensInsider (Aaron Wilson) @jaminsonhensley @jeffzebriecsun (Jeff Zebriec from the Sun)Re
-
Good point and I'm sure HARBs is preparing the team as if everyone will suit up, especially Green. If he doesn't, so be it but we want to beat them at their best. They didn't beat Ravens at their best in Week 1. No excuses here but Webbie was out when Green won the game when Chyie fell down covering him while batting the ball up into his hands. Suggs and Doooom were still hurting. We just got our pass rush back. There was none in Week 1. In the end it all evens out in the wash.
-
All that said, this might be the week to give Monroe and KO extra rest. Bengals d-line and linebackers are banged up bad as well as their receivers and o-line. See Bengals are hurting thread.
-
I think AJ Green is still listed as doubtful while he says he's playing. He tired of watching. Check out these injuries whilE Joe usually does well in Cinci. Top 3 Receiving threats most likely out: Green, Jones, Eifert They still have Sanu and he is decent. Linebackers #1 thru #4 all hurt or out, Bengals lack of depth shows here, the patchwork is not good, rookies & weak backup talent. Geno Adkins is playing hurt and is not nearly his usual bad self. He injury could last the whole season. It's exposed Peko for what he is, low end Interior DL talent I believe 1 starting CB is out I believe the starting C and one starting G are out. This one I'm not entirely clear on, think it's right.
-
Yea, we definitely need our A team vs this front line but Hurst did have his moments. He sprung SR on his 49 yd run getting to the second level after a 2 yard catch and he sprung Forsett on his 20 yd run. His man, Massaquoi was too quick for him except for when Hurst beat him on the SR play. Hurst had 3 penalties and 7 missed blocks out of 62, 2 QB hits, 1 pressure for his 2d poor game out of 4 but what did you expect from an undrafted rookie. Besides we still won all the games he was in except the Indy game when HARBs left him on an island by himself, same as Sunday. All that vs a bad team so we definitely need Monroe but think about this. He won't be so fast and good after being laid up for 4 weeks. Just saying ya know?
-
Exactly. Thats why I posted the plays where they ran right at him after Suggs forced Ryan out of the pocket on the other side of the field. Then they run at him twice in row for no gain. Mike Smith is one dumb coach. He used to be the DBs coach here under Billick who is his brother in law.
-
3rd qtr, 2 mins left and they run at Suggs again with the same result - no gain. Ryan passes for shot gain. Another run for short gain. 3rd qtr, 15 secs left and Ryan is forced out of his pocket dropping back fast, makes the completion at los but Webbie levels him, almost knocks him out for no gain. Way to go Webbie. 4th qtr, 13;05 left and Campy makes a nice side line catch. What a pickup in 7th round for Ozzie. Nice run by Pierce down to the 30 yd line. Taliaferro for no gain, stopped in backfield. LOL - ATlanta should have an INT but SR fouls his man to break it up and draws flag, of course but no INT. ILMAO LOL again- Koch back to punt and takes a delay of game penalty to move backward so he can angle the ball out in the corner. Mike Smith is besides himself on side line. Nothing is going right for him. Kock pins them back. Ryan hits White on right side but he drops ball, bounces off and elam almost has intercept. Pass complete to TE at 50. NOTE; THIS IS THE GRAVEY TIME I POSTED ABOVE. YOU CAN SEE THE ENTIRE D LETTING UP. THERE'S NOT AS MUCH PRESSURE ON RYAN AS BEFORE. DEFENSE MUST BE GETTING TIED. BALL DOWN TO 35. RYAN HITS WHITE AT 14. JIMMY GETS CALLED FOR FACE MASKING ON 10. HE DIDN'T MEAN TO. BALL ON 5 WITH 7:20 LEFT IN GAME. RYAN HITS JULIO FOR TD OVER FRANKS. ALL THOSE PASSES WERE OPPOSITE JIMMY SMITH'S SIDE. OK, 4th qtr, and the pressure is back on. Atlanta on their 10 and their pushed back and Ravens get their sack. On this play Suggs is lined up on left but pulls a stunt and comes up the middle untouched. Dooooom hit Ryan at the same time but suggs strips him of the ball. Jernigan is in the back field too but Suggs is bent down low hiding behind Ngata who is doubled teamed but Suggs is reading the keys. He's in front of the LT who is looking to his right at Ngata. He knew he was going to hit Ngata and the guard hits Ngata so Suggs cuts to the middle and crashes into Ryan untouched with Dooooom arriving from the other side a split second later. Dooooom only has one blocker, Suggs has none. Jernigan has one and beats his man. Jernigan is gonna be a nice player in the future. He's not impacting but making his presence felt as a rookie.
-
Yea, I watched the 2d half of the game and on his second sack he's facing their TE who hits him and Doooom bounces off and moves around him for the sack. He's so quick. Again it's his first step. He was injured after getting 10 sacks last year in Chicago and hasn't been the same since til recently. Wagner did well vs him in camp but he was still hampered. Third qtr starts off the way it ended with a Tucker FG. There was a 49 yd catch and run by SR. It was a dunk and slam, only a 2 yrd pass from Joe and he cut across the middle and down the field. He was so open, nobody was around him or in the middle of the field because Torrey and jj took their men deep so Kubes beat them with a dunk and slam. Suggs starts off the 2d half in their backfield and again, his first step is so fast. He chased Ryan out of the pocket who runs to his right and makes an across the body throw to his left for a completion but only for 2 yds. Suggs was past his blocker in one step. In the first two plays he forced Ryan out of the pocket even though he didn't get a sack. then on the next play they run at him for no gain. On Doooooom's forced fumble, Brandon and Ngata weren't in the game again. McPhee had 3 blockers on him and Jernigan had 1 who pushed his man straight back into the pocket which collapsed on Ryan's left side. MOsley came up the middle but someone picked him up and hit him forcing him to his left but he is so quick he got back into the QB when Dooooom hit him but McPhee had 3 blockers on him up the middle. That's what made the sack work. BTW, Franks the guy we got off the street made a 1 handed interception while defending Roddy White who has hurt us in the past. Like I said, julio got his TD over Franks during gravey time.

Except for Hurst. See why FROM FILM STUDY: http://russellstreetreport.com/filmstudy-save-for-one-o-line-grades-well/
