Injury and severity unknown Quote
vmax Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Damn!We got to hope for the best. The Ravens had about the worst possible sight during Saturday’s practice, as tight end Dennis Pitta was carted off the field during practice. Pitta went down after he collided with safety James Ihedigbo on a jump ball in the back of the end zone.Several trainers tended to Pitta after the play, and they then helped him onto the back of a cart. Pitta had a towel over his head as he was carted into the training room. It was unclear what kind of injury he suffered on the play.Offensive Coordinator Jim Caldwell is scheduled to address the media at 5 p.m. at the conclusion of practice. We will update the story at that time. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Dennis-Pitta-Carted-Off-Field-During-Practice-/243159a3-6c6d-4b8c-a6f5-3572525551b9 We have to wait until 5. There’s no immediate word on the nature of Pitta’s injury.Pitta caught 61 passes for 669 yards and seven touchdowns last season. With Anquan Boldin now in San Francisco, Pitta is the Ravens’ leading returning receiver. The Ravens were expected to incorporate tight ends in the offense even more this season, with Pitta and Ed Dickson likely being on the field together in a lot of two-tight end sets. Free agent tight end Visanthe Shiancoe visited the Ravens on Friday, and if Pitta is out for any significant time, Shiancoe would seem to be a likely signing. Quote

That means it’s at least a six-week injury.Pitta was a very important part of the Ravens’ offense last year and was expected to be an even more important part of the Ravens’ offense this year, with the departure of leading receiver Anquan Boldin. Pitta is one of quarterback Joe Flacco’s favorite targets, especially in the red zone, and he caught seven touchdown passes in the regular season last year and followed that up with three touchdowns in the postseason.Pitta was hurt in a collision with safety James Ihedigbo when they both jumped for a ball in the back of the end zone Quote

vmax Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 “Obviously he has been a very, very productive guy for us, and he’s made a lot of big plays around here,” Offensive Coordinator Jim Caldwell said. “We’ll see what happens. Somebody is going to have to step up and we do have some capable guys all across the flanks.”Fellow fourth-year tight end Ed Dickson is the next man up to be the team’s No. 1 tight end. He has starting experience over the last two seasons, and has been a valuable weapon in the passing game. He has 75 catches over the last two seasons. The other tight ends on the roster are veteran Billy Bajema, first-year player Alex SIlvestro and undrafted rookie Matt Furstenburg. Bajema was the team’s No. 3 tight end last season, but was not utilized in the passing game. The Ravens also had veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe in for a visit Friday. They could also turn to young receivers like Tandon Doss, Deonte Thompson, David Reed, LaQuan Williams or Tommy Streeter to help make up the production in the passing game.“We do have some weapons,” Caldwell said. “And we’re just going to have to have some guys make some plays for us."http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Tight-End-Dennis-Pitta-Dislocates-Hip-To-Miss-At-Least-Season-Opener/17db4cac-ee44-417e-a474-2409580208a1 Quote
