Clark's a Raven

This will help...besides depth at the TE position maybe they aren't too happy with Shianco. He's a playmaker and red zone threat.

The Ravens have agreed to terms with veteran tight end Dallas Clark, coach John Harbaugh said after practice today.

A former Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl selection, Clark, 34, has strong connections to the Ravens through his relationship with offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell. Caldwell coached him in Indianapolis where Clark was one of quarterback Peyton Manning's favorite targets.

Clark should provide a veteran, sure-handed presence for the Ravens' injury-riddled tight end position following a season-ending fractured and dislocated hip for starter Dennis Pitta and a slightly torn hamstring that has sidelined Ed Dickson.

Although the Ravens have veteran Visanthe Shiancoe under contract, Clark is coming off a strong season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where the 6-foot-3, 252-pounder caught 47 passes for 435 yards and five touchdowns

Of course they are "getting old". These are the only kinds of players who are available this time of year. They are not long term signings. The Ravens are forced into this because of injuries. It has to be done.

Clark had half the yards that Boldin had last year, but 1 more TD. He'll help.

It's not official...he has to pass the physical...

“One other thing – I have an announcement. [General Manager and Executive Vice President] Ozzie [Newsome] has an agreement in principle with Dallas Clark as of today,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said Sunday after practice at M&T Bank Stadium. "So he’ll be in tomorrow to get a physical. Obviously, all of that is going to have to pan out for us to finalize it, but Dallas Clark is on his way to Baltimore right now.”

I got mixed feelings on these signings, on one hand, I like both players and I understand the experience they bring to the positions....

But on the other hand, they are both way long in the tooth, slow and injury prone....

I just don't see anything to get excited about with either of them....they will no doubt, make some plays for us but do you really think that coaches like BB are gonna be worried about the likes of them ????

Goooo Ravens.....REPEAT !!!!

I like the Clark signing. The Stokely signing not so much.

We have zero depth at TE at the moment so anyone coming in will help. At WR we have a load of young guys that I would prefer to see given as many chances as possible and signing Stokely isn't going to help with that. It also makes me a little nervous about what Ozzie and John think of our current receivers.

These guys are as big of 'safety blankets' as we can get. Both were in the Bottom 5 (least) Drops last year at their respective positions and have the balls to go across the middle of the field. I actually don't expect huge playing time for either, but they did a nice job of getting Joe guys that he can trust on 3rd down on the cheap. Well done as usual Ozzie.

Well you've got to have somebody that can go and does go over the middle successfully and I don't think we had any guys like that without Pitta and Boldin. Doss was supposed to that guy but he hasn't shown up yet. IF these guys can still find the open areas in the middle and don't get hurt they could help.

We'll see.

I saw a video of practice earlier today where they were talking about Clark practicing and it looked like him wearing #87....

If it was, he was very lethargic and looked uninterested.....Maybe it's boring to him but, the other guys looked energetic enough...

Harbs did say, nothing is promised to them, they understand they have to win a chance to get on the field.....

Goooo Ravens !!!!

Dallas Clarkicon-article-link.gif had options other than playing for the Ravens. As he said, “I had the luxury to be picky, and I was.”

Clark and his agent turned down some teams early on in the free agency process. There was a handful that were in talks with the veteran tight end.

What swayed Clark – other than the Ravens being the most aggressive at the end – was the man under center,Joe Flaccoicon-article-link.gif.

After being named Super Bowl XLVII MVP, Flacco has become a recruiting tool, which can pay big dividends over the years when it comes to luring talent to Baltimore.

“A couple of receivers like the fact that Joe is here. I think that interests them a lot,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said.

Clark was asked whether Flacco impacted his decision to become a Raven.

“Absolutely,” he said. “He’s a gamer and just a great leader. He can flat-out play the game. As a receiving tight end, that was No. 1 wherever I was going to go, they had to have a solid quarterback. This is better than that.”
