papasmurfbell Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 No, because we had other voids to fill, like safety, and RT and we really do need 1 more WR. I didnt feel we needed a LB with the 17th pick..Ozzie drafts BPA and not on need. Quote
RavenMad Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 What pissed me off the most about NFLN's coverage was the guys went down through 2 or 3 names they thought should/would get drafted in the next slot. Then just before the pick was about to be announced Mayock or Faulk would say or maybe this team might go for someone like xxxxxxx and that person would be the pick. In the quest to look like they know what they are talking about they always have to spoil the pick. It's a shame because generally I can see their line of thinking with their picks. If it doesn't turn out to be correct so what. I have never seen a mock draft correct for 32 picks that is why tuning in to watch the draft is so much fun as we have no idea what is going to happen so don't spoil it for us please! I do like their analysis and I do like Rich Eisen as well but please stop spoiling the picks. By all means, state how you were surprised by the pick, analyze who the team picked, look at what they might target now they have made that pick and move on. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Eisen is the one thing I wish the NFLN would solve. I hate him in so many ways. Quote
ForceEight Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Ozzie drafts BPA and not on need. It's funny how we talk about this 364 days a year, and then on draft night so many people freak out when we don't draft for a need. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 It is funny how I am the one who has to remind people of it. Quote
cravnravn Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Ozzie drafts BPA and not on need. No way he was rated higher than Pryor or Dixon , no way in hell Quote
thesteelhurtin Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Mosley will be a stud, but we really didn't need a linebacker. Cowboys really fucked us by taking Martin.well I guess you could say the steelers fucked you because the Cowboys were on the phone with Shazier's agent when the Steelers picked him. Some reports say he was already written down on the Cowboys draft card. Quote
thesteelhurtin Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 No GM actually drafts best player available. Let's say for some reason the top qb in the draft falls to 17 and was clearly the best player available the Ravens wouldn't take him because of flacco. It's a mixture of both your draft the BPA of your needs. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 No way he was rated higher than Pryor or Dixon , no way in hellOn your board maybe but you don't work in the castle. Safeties are like RB's. A position that is not usually highly rated. Like I have been saying I didn't see the Ravens using 2 #1 picks in a row at safety. Quote
Tornado700 Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Hey Nado, speaking of drinking, you doing any of the Florida games this season? we have a nice little tailgate forming for the Tampa gameI appreciate it Crave, but I'm not going down to Florida this year at all. Don't care if I do dah do dah do dah. (Johnny Cash) Quote

thesteelhurtin Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I do that wasn't steelers related at all. I enjoy talking about football and like some the people here so get over it. Put me on ignore it's pretty simple. 1 Quote
oldno82 Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I still don't think Mosley was the right pick. BPA is a nice theory but you gotta take into account team needs. It wouldn't have been a stretch to take Dix. Trading back is an unknown because we don't know what we were offered. I'm still pissed at Dallas taking Martin. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Obviously they didn't rate a safety high enough there. Also you need a partner for a trade. There was none there for them. Quote
vmax Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I don't know how the players will turn out. I do know four things for certain. 1) Ray Lewis may be a good game analyst, but he stinks as a draft analyst. 2) Gruden may have been a good coach, and is good at joking around, but he sucks as a draft analyst. 3) Chris Berman did a lot over the years for sports coverage, but his time has come, he really is horrible as a draft analyst. 4) NFL network should be ashamed, as bad as ESPN's coverage was, theirs was far, far worse. I tried to watch NFL network and they really did suck. Quote
vmax Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Obviously they didn't rate a safety high enough there. Also you need a partner for a trade. There was none there for them. That's the point. There's something about the other available players that had them rated lower. DeCosta has said that if players rate out equally then they do go for need. Quote
ForceEight Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 No GM actually drafts best player available. It's a mixture of both your draft the BPA of your needs.QBs are pretty obviously excluded from that point. You guys actually sound really silly given that, as I said, we always talk about how the Ravens are such a BPA team and when they go BPA based on their board (and not the board of a guy on television), we have everyone flipping out about Ozzie getting too old or someone having made a mistake or whatever. I'm ecstatic with the draft so far and I think every pick was a good one. Do I know the players any better than you guys? No, but it's obvious that roster holes weren't considered nearly to the extent that player talent was when considering the positions they drafted for, and that's actually really exciting. Quote
