Jimmy Smith Extended

Our starting 3 Cb's on paper look good going into training camp. Mixed feelings about extending him post injury. Even with a full recovery you never know. No matter what Oz will be criticized by the peanut gallery. I'd like them to maybe go Wr first, then Safety, then TE/CB in the third.

"“For me it was never truly about being the highest paid corner,” Smith said. “I knew I couldn’t be that on this team and be here just because of the talent already spread around. You have to pay other people, so I knew that going into it.”"

Joe, hope you and Linta are listening to this for 2016.

Great news. :gorave:

The Patriots don't make that comeback if the Ravens had Jimmy. This is huge for the next 4 years. He's somebody solid that you can build around.

He has a streak of 11 straight games with no touchdowns allowed.

Smith's 2014 season ended in Week 8 when he suffered a foot injury. With Smith last season, the Ravens went 5-2 and allowed a league-low seven passing touchdowns.

See the difference!?

Considering the deals going around this year, I would say Jimmy Smith is certainly worth the money.

Darrelle Revis - 5-years, $70M+ with $39M guaranteed

Byron Maxwell - 6-years, $63M with $25M guaranteed

Chris Culliver - 4-years, $32M with $16M guaranteed

I like the move - he was playing out of his mind before he got hurt.

Wow, just wow, quite a lot for a player who is injury & penalty prone..... I guess this takes corner out of the first round.

Injury prone - yes, but I don't remember he being a penalty problem (at least no more than any corner is nowadays with the way the game is called)

Most of the guys on the boards are excited about it. The

deal is cap friendly for Ravens. He's getting $45M with

about $22M guaranteed.

He has only played 2 full seasons out of 4 so his camp knew

he wasn't getting the mega bucks elsewhere. Oz played

the market perfectly.

Getting Marcus Peters would give Ravens a top shut down

duo, albeit Peters baggage, which is getting kicked off Wash's

team for being a hot head.

He has 20 career penalties, accepted, since coming into the league in 37 games played.. Leading the way of the ones TC pointed out, Byron Maxwell had 19 in 47 games played, Culiver has 16 in 46 games played, they were all drafted the same year.

Revis, has 20 as well, but he was drafted in 2007, for a reference, in 111 games.

I would be all for drafting Marcus Peters or Kevin Johnson. After last year, a team can never have too many quality corners. Peters would be great. Peters and Smith on the outside as press corners, Webb moves into the slot. Certainly gives us options to being the blitz.
