Robjr83 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Our starting 3 Cb's on paper look good going into training camp. Mixed feelings about extending him post injury. Even with a full recovery you never know. No matter what Oz will be criticized by the peanut gallery. I'd like them to maybe go Wr first, then Safety, then TE/CB in the third. Quote

tsylvester Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Wow, just wow, quite a lot for a player who is injury & penalty prone..... I guess this takes corner out of the first round. Quote
thundercleetz Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 @PFF: Before his injury last season #Ravens CB Jimmy Smith was 2nd amongst all CBs, allowing just 0.57 Yards Per Coverage Snap Quote
oldno82 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 "“For me it was never truly about being the highest paid corner,” Smith said. “I knew I couldn’t be that on this team and be here just because of the talent already spread around. You have to pay other people, so I knew that going into it.”" Joe, hope you and Linta are listening to this for 2016. Quote
vmax Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Great news. The Patriots don't make that comeback if the Ravens had Jimmy. This is huge for the next 4 years. He's somebody solid that you can build around. He has a streak of 11 straight games with no touchdowns allowed.Smith's 2014 season ended in Week 8 when he suffered a foot injury. With Smith last season, the Ravens went 5-2 and allowed a league-low seven passing touchdowns. See the difference!? Quote
thundercleetz Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Considering the deals going around this year, I would say Jimmy Smith is certainly worth the money. Darrelle Revis - 5-years, $70M+ with $39M guaranteedByron Maxwell - 6-years, $63M with $25M guaranteedChris Culliver - 4-years, $32M with $16M guaranteed http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/cornerback/ Quote
OutsideRzAcE Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I like the move - he was playing out of his mind before he got hurt. Wow, just wow, quite a lot for a player who is injury & penalty prone..... I guess this takes corner out of the first round. Injury prone - yes, but I don't remember he being a penalty problem (at least no more than any corner is nowadays with the way the game is called) Quote
TBird Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Most of the guys on the boards are excited about it. Thedeal is cap friendly for Ravens. He's getting $45M withabout $22M guaranteed. He has only played 2 full seasons out of 4 so his camp knewhe wasn't getting the mega bucks elsewhere. Oz playedthe market perfectly. Getting Marcus Peters would give Ravens a top shut downduo, albeit Peters baggage, which is getting kicked off Wash'steam for being a hot head. Quote

Injury prone - yes, but I don't remember he being a penalty problem (at least no more than any corner is nowadays with the way the game is called) He has 20 career penalties, accepted, since coming into the league in 37 games played.. Leading the way of the ones TC pointed out, Byron Maxwell had 19 in 47 games played, Culiver has 16 in 46 games played, they were all drafted the same year. Revis, has 20 as well, but he was drafted in 2007, for a reference, in 111 games. Quote
TBird Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I read we just got $3M in cap space. The only risk is there will be dead money if he is continually hurt, other than that, the deal is cap friendly. Quote

After last year, a team can never have too many quality corners. Peters would be great. Peters and Smith on the outside as press corners, Webb moves into the slot. Certainly gives us options to being the blitz. Quote
TBird Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Yes it does. I'd like him except for the bad boy part. Ozzie already said Kevin Johnson will be gone. He'll be longgone. Quote
