thundercleetz Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 By the way ... Crush should have had the home-run that was reviewed. I was at the game, so not sure how it showed on TV, but he was totally LOST in the OF in that moment. Not unlike the previous inning where he managed to nab a ball that he had horribly misplayed... Quick reference check. Parmelee came up as a 1B in Minny but did play a decent amount of RF. But I wonder how much of them trying to move him was because of Justin Mourneau having 1B locked down for them at the time. In early years he played most games at 1B and even in 2011 played more than 100 at 1B to only 30 in RF. Interesting... I wonder if this is also a long-term move to see if Parmelee can be our 1B once Crush is a free agent. Christian Walker is struggling in AAA and hasn't taken the step forward we hoped he would. Parmelee obviously has a lot of talent as a former first round pick. He hit .355 over 76 ABs for the Twins back in 2011 at only 23-years old. He looked like he was going to be a star. He's only 27, so maybe there is a lot of untapped potential there. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Surprised Delmon Young was the guy DFA'd. Not Pearce? I guess Pearce has more versatility? Quote
dc. Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Pearce has at least played some 2b this year. If you think about it, our roster right now has no true back up for Hardy or Flaherty. If Flaherty went down mid game, Pearce would replace him. If Hardy went down, Flaherty would move over and Pearce would take 2b. And same if Many went down. It's a risky play in any circumstance until Schoop comes back. Bottom line is Young couldn't play those spots, even if Pearce plays then poorly. Two other factors: Young can't play defense even in the OF. And Young if probably better trade bait. Duqueete said he's confident they'll get a trade done in the ten days - even if it's for crap. thundercleetz Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 I went to the game last night. Perfect evening for a game. The offense was quiet but it was extremely encouraging to see Gausman pitch as well as he did. I think Gausman and Tillman pitch better with Wieters behind the plate. Gausman's stuff looked really good last night. We have to keep him in the rotation and give him a fair chance to get into a rhythm. He is too talented to keep messing around with in and out of the pen, to and from Norfolk. Quote
thundercleetz Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 By the way Schoop is on fire in Frederick. Sure, it's only Single A, but Schoop says after working with Brady he feels stronger and faster than he ever has. He's ready. As serviceable as Flaherty has been, we need Schoop's power and defense. Quote
thundercleetz Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Schoop is coming up, Flaherty is down. Our lineup needs a jolt and Schoop provides power. Snider needs to be on a short leash. He's providing a poor OBP, no power and is striking out at an alarming rate. There are rumors of the O's wanting to reacquire LJ Hoes who is tearing up AAA for the Astros. Hoes is an OBP monster. I'd give him a chance at lead off and drop Manny in the lineup to give him more RBI opportunities. Quote
dc. Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Longer story... Flaherty down, until Reimold goes on paternity leave soon... Then Flaherty up. Then Reimold back, Flaherty stays, and they will option a SP... Phew. Quote
Spen Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Rough stretch but not too worried. The pitching had been good enough to win most games. Quote
thundercleetz Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Schoop hits a powerful HR in his first AB back. Quote
varaven45 Posted July 8, 2015 Author Posted July 8, 2015 Ok, team now looks like dead warmed over. Ugh.Maybe the all star break will do this team some good. Quote
cravnravn Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 We need the break real fast, still in second place, still over 500, we OK, but I'm concerned. Quote
BengalBilly Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 We need the break real fast, still in second place, still over 500, we OK, but I'm concerned.I can only wish my Reds were over .500. Aside from Frazier, the team has been junk. Quote
BengalBilly Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Welcome home BillyThanks crav. Things are rather slow on all the boards I've seen. Quote
thundercleetz Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 What a game for Schoop! Flaherty played admirably while Schoop was out, but Schoop is a special talent. Not only did he hit the walk off, but he is a wizard around second base when it comes to turning the DP. That DP he turned tonight on the Machado throw was a thing of beauty. He also made a spectacular play on the Wieters throw that got challenged and changed to an out. Played it perfectly straddling the base and applying the quick tag. Welcome back Schoop! 1 Quote

Spen Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 The DP from last night:http://mlb.mlb.com/r/video?content_id=247855583That's amazing. I must have missed something because the steal challenge play looked safe to me. Quote
dc. Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 My favorite thing about Schoop - his age. 23 I think, just like Manny... Still so far up to go. Quote
thundercleetz Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 My favorite thing about Schoop - his age. 23 I think, just like Manny... Still so far up to go.The other thing I love is their chemistry. In the post game interview Schoop said him and Manny are like brothers because of all the time they've spent together coming up in the minors. About Manny. I've noticed a lot more fire in him this season. He's usually a soft spoken guy but you've seen him be very vocal and animated this season. I love it. Quote
thundercleetz Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 That's amazing. I must have missed something because the steal challenge play looked safe to me.Here's a pretty good look at it: http://mlb.mlb.com/r/video?content_id=248135883 Pretty surprising considering the call on the field was safe. Nonetheless great throw by Wieters and positioning and tag by Schoop. Quote
Spen Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Now in the 8th the strike zone is suddenly gigantic. Quote
