Early reports say for Doug Dutch, a 2nd year CB from Michigan who went undrafted and then didn't make the team last year or the Las Vegas Locomotives. Sad.

UPDATE: Beck has been traded to the Washington Redskins in exchange for cornerback Doug Dutch, a former University of Michigan player.

 

The former Miami Dolphins second-round draft pick was with the Ravens last season.

 

He was competing with Troy Smith to be the third quarterback.

The Ravens traded fourth-string quarterback John Beck to the Washington Redskins for cornerback Doug Dutch, who was on the Redskins' practice squad last season.

 

This marks the first player trade between the regional rivals.

 

Dutch, 24, is 5 feet 11, 199 pounds. He was undrafted coming out of Michigan in 2009 and was added to the Redskins' practice squad in November.

 

This move adds depth to the Ravens' injury-filled cornerback group.

 

I get this for depth but damn is that all we could get. For goodness sakes, Beck, for a foreskins practice squad CB.

In case sales, thats like trading in a used, mid size dependable Toyota or Honda for a dang Yugo.

 

I wasnt expect a starting CB or even a 2nd teamer, but s practice squad CB ? The Dutch era begins !!

Agreed. And what is it we are looking for, starting CBs!

 

And If there will be a trade for a starting CB, we would have to give up a lot more than Beck, probably something starting with a firstround pick and a proven starter.

 

For now it will only be the Walkers, Ivys and Oglesbys.

Exactly. CB is one of the hardest positions to find and they are not given away lightly. Ask the skins if they screwed up trading for Portis.

We r in deep, deep doo doo. At this point mattison needs to focus strictly on the pass rush because thats the only thing that can save us now. And its gonna have to come from the linemen because we r gonna need to drop our lbs back in coverage alot. We should consider going back to the 4-6 buddy ryan D

Greg Mattison, the Ravens' defensive coordinator, is not a proponent of blitzes. Perhaps you have heard him expound on this. He believes you're eventually going to lose if you take too many defenders out of your pass coverage too often, leaving the cornerbacks to fend for themselves. You just can't let your cornerbacks go it alone, Mattison believes, not with the pro game being so pass-happy today.

 

We can debate the merits of his philosophy as opposed to that of his predecessor, Rex Ryan, who loved to blitz. Fans loved Ryan's aggressive style, but Mattison's defense wound up playing well at the end of last season.

 

In any case, by believing in rushing just four without a blitz, Mattison is asking the players on the defensive front to beat their blockers one-on-one and apply the necessary pressure – the ends and a linebacker from "the edge" and the tackles "pushing the pocket" from the middle. And who on the Ravens' front is the rush specialist? That would be Suggs.

Getting the pressure from 4 is the major emphasis this camp. Greg has the talent to pull it off. Even Cody knocked a ball down today.

I don't see what the problem is. We would have been cutting Beck anyway once camp was over. We at least tried to get a CB for him and it didn't work out. Big deal, move on. That is what the Ravens did and now they traded for another CB. I doubt the Seahawks would have wanted Beck for Wilson anyway.

How did Miami agree? They cut him and we signed him as a free agent to carry a clipboard. He was familiar with Cam's system hence we signed him but even that couldn't save him once we signed Bulger.

It was a two years extension so it is three years! Bulgers salary for one single season more than Becks three years, so they can probably cut him with few complications. Becks value = Nada.

 

It was a curious deal. I believe it was first of all a friendly gesture to Beck and the Ravens needed a body here and now, they liked Dutch still they could have had another body or what ever.
