For the most polarizing player of the year, and perhaps the most controversial free-agent case the NFL has ever seen, that circumstance may have taken shape faster than anyone expected.

News that Joe Flacco is dealing with a back issue, and the series of conflicting reports indicating he could miss anywhere from one to six weeks, suddenly has Baltimore entering training camp with a need at the most important position on the field.

Flacco returning on the short side of the estimated timelines would, of course, ease concerns about his status heading into the regular season. And even if he's out the full six weeks, it's still possible he'd suit up for Week 1.

But finding someone to fill in during his absence is just one small part of the equation.

Back injuries, as any athlete human can attest, are no joke. That feeling all Ravens fans had upon hearing the news is a clear reminder of just how much a team's season depends upon the quarterback.

Would Baltimore really be comfortable turning to Ryan Mallett in the event that Flacco is held out longer than expected? How about if he were to suffer some sort of setback midseason? Only those within the organization know the real answer to those questions. Those on the outside know exactly what the answers should be.http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/could-flaccos-injury-finally-open-the-door-for-kaepernick/ar-AAoTaWE?li=BBnb7Kz

5-11 season.

No shot at winning jack shit.

What a shitty thing to wake up to.

The Ravens reportedly got bad news Wednesday evening.

Quarterback Joe Flacco is dealing with a disc issue in his back, and the timetable for a recovery is uncertain.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that Flacco is preparing to be sidelined the next three to six weeks. If that timetable is correct, then Flacco could miss the first game or two of the regular season.

But The Baltimore Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec wrote that Flacco is dealing with back “soreness,” and that the Ravens are committing to a week of rest to see if that calms down the symptoms.

NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero wrote that the “doctors are still figuring out the timeframe on the injury.”.....http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Reports-Joe-Flacco-Dealing-With-Back-Issue-Timetable-Uncertain/e293fd3e-bd70-481c-ac35-61dced92e1f6

A little bit better news....let's hope this is the case....

When the Ravens take the field Thursday morning for their first full-squad practice of training camp, they are expected to be without their starting quarterback.

Joe Flacco is dealing with back discomfort that will likely shut him down for at least the first week of training camp, sources said Wednesday. It’s the latest in a suddenly mounting list of injury concerns for the Ravens as they begin preparations for the 2017 season.

According to sources, Flacco, who reported to training camp last week, has been feeling some back discomfort for the past two weeks but it was especially stiff Wednesday, prompting him to get an MRI done.

Team officials are hopeful that his symptoms calm down when he is re-evaluated after a week of rest....http://www.carrollcountytimes.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-ravens-joe-flacco-training-camp-20170726-story.html

Sources: Ravens' Joe Flacco to miss 1st week of camp with back injury...........

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco is expected to miss the first week of training camp because of a back injury, according to sources.

Doctors told Flacco and the team that a week of rest can calm down the back issue. Flacco hurt it while lifting weights and then underwent an MRI, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Backup Ryan Mallett will replace Flacco with the first-team offense. The only other quarterback on the Ravens roster is Dustin Vaughan............http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/20165858/joe-flacco-baltimore-ravens-miss-first-week-training-camp-back-injury

Jimmy Smith also was favoring right foot. Stayed on field after talking to trainers but didn't go back in.

“Yeah, Tony [Jefferson] is okay. He tells me he’s 100 percent,” Harbaugh said. “He had the sports hernia surgery about four or five weeks ago — and he’s just so mad at me right now — but I put him through individual and held him out of the rest of it. I just want to make sure that he doesn’t burst too quickly and have something reoccur, so that’s my decision to ease him back a little bit.”

In a few weeks they will be needing bodies. Who is ready to suit up?
