varaven45 Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 No link yet but sounds like "in the works". Very interesting. Quote
varaven45 Posted October 15, 2019 Author Posted October 15, 2019 According to NFL Network, Peters to Ravens for Kenny Young and a pick. Details to follow ..... Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 There is no point. This d is not a p!ayer away. Quote
tsylvester Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 Sorry, I did not see this thread. This is a great deal, it costs nothing, Young would have been released next year anyway... Great steal. Quote
varaven45 Posted October 15, 2019 Author Posted October 15, 2019 Tsy, agreed and no brainer. Our D and the backend needed help and we got it. Quote
tsylvester Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 A 5th round pick that they got from the Vikes, sure, Peters needs a new deal but if he leaves after the season, the Ravens will get a comp pick for him. If Smith comes back healthy, he, Peters & Humphries will instantly improve the pass rush, let alone the secondary. Quote
tsylvester Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 There is no point. This d is not a p!ayer away. You are correct that the D is not one player away. However, to get rid of a player you were going to cut at the end of the season and a 5th pick that you got for a player you were going to cut (and is not on any team I believe, now) for a player who is better than what you have at the second corner position, Canaday, Averett, and at his best is better than anyone on the roster now, makes this a great move. If he leaves at the end of the season you get that 5th, at least, back, so what is there to lose? This isn't like giving up a 1st & 3rd plus a player, for a player in the secondary (who may or may not have back issues)... This was Eric's finest move so far and gives me hope that he is the next young Wizzard of Oz... Quote
vmax Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 Since 2015, Carr, Humphrey, Jefferson, Patrick Onwuasor, Anthony Levine Sr., Maurice Canady, Chuck Clark, Anthony Averett and DeShon Elliott have combined for 22 interceptions. During that span, Peters has 24. My guess is they parted ways with him due to character issues. Quote
OutsideRzAcE Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 They just traded for Ramsey. Looks like we benefited from them trying to make room for him Quote
tsylvester Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Wow, The Jaguars will receive first-round picks in 2020 and 2021 and a 2021 fourth-rounder.. No wonder they traded Peterson, the money they will have tied up and an over paid qb, seldom used always hurt rb, dt, now corner.. Ouch... I wonder if his back is as much of an issue as he claimed.. I doubt it if they went through with this trade. Quote
Spen Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Pretty decent deal for the Ravens. Doesn't really hurt, might help, and good terms. Quote
vmax Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Behind the scenes, Eric's been hard at work trying to patch this team up and keep the ship afloat. He's doing a great job considering the situation, the time in the season and what's available. They have a shot at keeping Peters long term if he performs well. They could let Smith and Canady go and save a lot of Cap. Quote
varaven45 Posted October 16, 2019 Author Posted October 16, 2019 Yep, and w/Peters, one step closer to restoring a struggling defense. Sure, we still need to fortify our LB corps and add 1-2 pass rushers. That will certainly come in 2020 and beyond. In the meantime, the secondary is trending up and I like the lockdown CB combo of Humphrey and Peters. If Earl Thomas and Chuck Clark continue to improve on the back end, the secondary should set up nicely for the second half of the season. It will certainly get a nice test this Sunday in Seattle ! Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 But if Peters is gone after the season how is he going to fortify in 2020? Quote
tsylvester Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 But if Peters is gone after the season how is he going to fortify in 2020?If he leaves next year, the Ravens get a comp pick, at least a 5th, likely a 3rd if he plays well and signs a big deal. So then, what will be lost? A linebacker who has no instincts, sure he is fast but he doesn't stick to the scheme and who was going to be cut anyway. Win-win Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 I guess. But he cant be looked at as the long term piece then. Quote
tsylvester Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Who cares? The key was to try and improve the defense, a good secondary player can help the pass rush. All he has to be is better than the two guys currently having the burned parts scraped off the bread... Shoot, I bet you could cover better than Canaday & Averate There is still a chance he signs long term Quote
oldno82 Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Good trade! And hopefully we can use Max’s idea about releasing Smith and Canady and sign him long term. If not we get a comp pick anyway as Taylor suggests. My only concern is can Harbaugh deal with his personality? Anyway, another smart move by Eric. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 I found it interesting. His longest pick 6 was against the ravens. It was in 2015. Quote
vmax Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 “Everything happens for a reason,” Smith said, referring to his knee injury. “You know, who knows if we would’ve gotten Marcus Peters if all that didn’t happen? So maybe we win the Super Bowl because of all this.” Quote
tsylvester Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Jimmy needs to lay off the pain meds...... Quote
Spen Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Papa needs to lay off them too. I mean, I assume he is on some sort of brain numbing cocktail. I hope so.... otherwise... Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 The guy who is clueless about the game thinks my brain is numb? Quote
