Cam Cameron Fired

The Baltimore Ravens dismissed offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and replaced him with quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Cameron's dismissal comes after the Ravens' overtime loss to the Redskins on Sunday, their second straight defeat.

Cameron joined the Ravens in 2008 after he was fired as the coach of the Dolphins following a 1-15 season.

Caldwell joined the Ravens after being fired by the Colts following Indianapolis' 2-14 season in 2011.

Caldwell's never called a play.

But Cam should be gone. There is too much talent on offense to be consistentlyvranked in the middle of the pack.

The final "no try for points at the end of the first half did it for me.

This was Steve "we like a fire under Cam" Bichiotti's call. He threw gas on that fire.

Maybe Joe's input and comments did him in also.

Let's hope Joe takes off like Rivers and Breed did once Cam was removed from them.

I think at the very least this move will improve communication between the players and the gameplan. Cam was notorious for next taking player input and being inflexible with the gameplan. If we are going to commit to Joe the next five or six years we need to know if he is the problem or if Cam is the problem. Firing Cam is the only way to find out for sure what type of QB Joe is. If Joe excels under Caldwell, great. If not, and Norv Turner is out there, get Norv. If Joe cannot excel under Norv, then he never will. But that is down the line.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Well, it will be a small small sample size (3 reg season games; hopefully post season) for the Flacco/Caldwell experiment.

Oh well, sometimes you've got to mix things up. Maybe change will be good and give Joe a new lease on life. Besides, Caldwell is bound to give Rice more touches.

Every week Harbaugh talks about getting better. The offense hasn't done that since he's been here.

.....The offense just seemed stuck in neutral, forever caught in various philosophical quandaries. To run or pass more? To huddle or not? To give the quarterback more authority or not? Some days were better than others, but there was always something to fret about.....But I can’t blame Harbaugh for making the move. The offense is 16th in passing, 17th in rushing and ranked near the bottom of the league in time of possession. It was the same old story, blah, blah, blah. Barring a major reversal, Cameron probably was gone after this season anyway......

This does smack of desperation. The main message???

Everybody's on the hot seat.

You guys want to read somethign really interesting read this topic over on the Orioles Hangout:

Thanks cleetz!

The talk about the team mutiny meeting being about Cam and his play calling is interesting. Also the Ozzie told Joe's agent this is his last year...and Rice being upset.

Some or all of that may be true. If so...congrats to Harbaugh for listening to his players, stepping up and making the change.

Cam had to go but it sure would have been better in last year's off-season rather than now...I think. Would've given time to install a new offense (that would actually include slants, routes over the middle, and WR screens that work).

Still, a move like this sure shakes things up and a shakeup was needed.

Maybe NOW they'll play McKinnie at LT, move Oher back to RT, make Osemele the RG and put Williams in at LG. Still not ideal but better I think than the way its set up now.

Joe must like this but now the heat is really on him to produce---no more excuses. If he wants a new contract here that pays him top money he has to perform like a top QB and not just have 'potential'.

One more thing: Cam has always shown an inability to adapt to the other teams defense during the game.

Finally, does anybody notice that in DC they set up the offense to take into account RGIII strengths. I don't like Shannahan but what his OC has done with the Redskins this year is pretty special.

It's also getting him killed. Probably be ok if they only needed him for a year.

So another near mutiny about a month after the last one. Sure John has everything under control.
