Inconsistent Ravens reflect flawed franchise strategy
varaven45 replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Max, definitely cant cry over spilled milk - Wentz or Goff- but the transitioning in my mind has been underway since 2013 - after our SB win and Joes monster contract. Its just taken 5 years and a pundits article to expose it all. I think reality settles in after Sundays game and the transitioning becomes that more Imminent. For what its worth, many on this board - smarter than me - have also seen this coming. FWIW 2 - the sooner we rebuild the better. Hangin around 7-9 and 8-8, aint no fun. Just my two cents. -
Oldno, IDK. Don't see a scenario by which we win on Sunday - w or w/o Humphrey & Stanley. Steelers are finding their mojo and ways to win; we aren't. This team's effort (and game outcome) will tell us a lot about its interest in playing for Harbaugh. Personally, its starting to feel like the pre-Billick firing atmosphere here ca. 10 years ago.

Time will tell eh ? Hard to find the next Bellicheck or the LA Rams coach in this era of money hungry prima donnas and the Goodell regime. Itll take a very special, creative coaching talent to win here or anywhere in todays NFL.

Yep, you could also include Ed Reed (lesser degree). Yep, mediocrity and no playoffs since 2013. Not cutting it; time to move on. FWIW- New coach and Lamar may not be a good match. Although a 1st rounder (albeit later), not sure a new HC wants someone else's QB pick. Could be some sweeping changes all around.

Right. I think your prognostication was/is shared by many. While we are at it, I see a final win total between 6 and 8 and another 1st round draft pick in the 15-20 range.....again. Harbs and the Ravens have become the masters of and are steeped in the mire of mediocrity. We are too good to be bad and too bad to be good (playoff team). Stuck in the middle. Nothing will change until Biscuit screams "I'm stopping this insanity" and cleans house. Its time and has been so since the SB win 5 years ago. He should be planning his transition right now, identifying his future coach/assistants, and gearing up for a Feb/March change (before the draft). It feels Billick like from about 10-11 years ago. Tired of horrendous, head scratching draft picks, mediocre play, watching the playoffs and losing to Cincy every year and now Cleveland (and they don't even have a coach). Time to do as Bob Seeger sang, turn the page. That's all I got !

Hey, too bad we couldnt swap Marty for Hue as our OC. Hue was a pretty dang good QB coach here as I recall.

I guess that means the "P" word is out ?

And to think we were Favored in This game. I wonder what hairbrain oddsmaker had us winning today. Somebody could have scored some major coin in Vegas!

Max, its killing me too. Im still hungover from Saints loss. Today, not so much. I didnt see us winning this game. Our new season starts Sunday against the Steelers. Who the heck knows what team will show up for that one ?
-
Max, we were hungover from Saints loss. Totally expected today; saw it a week ago. Tough schedule indeed. Chiefs are the class in AFC anyhow; Rams in NFC. This team is missing a few vital pieces but in the scrum and a .500 team with a L or 2 from being a playoff team.

Oldno82, agreed on Carolina. My head says Panthers will be sky high after 17 pt comeback win in Philly. My head also says we'll play w/ a hangover after what could have been. We'll meet the Steelers the following next Sunday at 4-4 and in desperation mode. The Steelers will be 4-2 -1 after this Sunday's *** I'm stupid for thinking this game is easy *** W at home vs Browns. Lots to overcome but a team w character and toughness figures it out and wins. No excuses and no more talk - (last week's team chasing history, best D in league stuff); just figure out how to win. Can they? Sure. Will they ? I don't know We 'll know just a bit more about this team - its toughness, character and sense of urgency - late Sunday afternoon.
-
Yep. Its the RB or OL, or both. Either way, its not enough. Too bad we didn't snag Saquon Barkley. It was too much of a reach but would have loved to have that guy. Then I woke up !

Yep, I was listening to the game on Sirius and heard the game tying score (minus PAT) as I'm approaching Ches Bay Bridge Tunnel in Cape Charles Va. As we approach the tunnel, Tucker is lining up to kick the PAT and then we enter the tunnel and lose our signal for about 2-3 minutes. Upon exiting the tunnel and regaining our signal, we quickly hear the broadcast team (almost in dead silence) announce Tucker's unbelievable misfire. I'm like you, I had an uneasy feeling with the wind on Sunday. Also, I'm not so sure we win that game in OT with Brees at the helm. Looking back, and hindsight being 20/20, that game shouldn't have come down to the final series. Our offense needs to keep its foot on the throttle against all teams (not just NO). The problem is and has been, we don't have a substantial enough running attack to sustain long drives and/or diversify the O . We haven't had that since the Ray Rice and even more so Jamal Lewis days. Without that running attack and w/Joe at the helm, we are a slightly above average offense but with a good to very good defense. This all translates to .500 team w plus or minus a victory. In other words, we are stuck at 7-9 to 9-7 campaigns until we get that power running game or a dynamic QB (see Mahomes).

And Ill add whenever this team begins to put itself on the smallest of pedestals - like in Brandon Carrs remarks- we get humbled. Every time. Its always better to let the game do your talking.
-
Helluva game but very tough loss. Cant get any closer than that. In the end, you got to tip your hat to the Saints and Brees.

Tall order for sure Max. Btw - Saints are ranked 1 in rush defense. But the beauty of the NFL - anythings possible on Sunday. It looks to me like Joe will need to pass extremely well to open up the running game It should be an extremely entertaining game . Lets see how this thing goes -
Lamar is one dangerous dude out in the open field. Imagine if he just had a semi-accurate arm
-
Awesome D today against a tough opponent in their house no less. Gotta build on this - next up Drew and the Saints!
-
Agreed Spen. This will be a very tough game. I think this game tells us a lot about where this team is and where it’s going. Huge difference between 4-2 and 3-3; especially with Drew & the Saints coming next Sunday.

Aside from LA Rams and KC , all NFL teams are flawed to some degree. Ours were on display yesterday; need to fix em and get ready for Tennessee.
