I know I'm surprised. The Kubiak offense worked to perfection. I felt sure it was going to be a loss when I heard Osemele couldn't play. Gee, two rookies on the blind side and Joe wasn't sacked. Two things: The Buc's are awful. The Ravens look so damned good when the execute Kubiak's offense. Now the trick is to generate some momentum from this win. Let's keep it up. OH...and Joe looked elite!

But if Osemele can't play, make that 24-13 Bucs. The mere thought of Gino playing LG makes me retch.

Turn on the Indy game now - Ravens must be feeling good
oldno82 replied to TBird's topic in Baltimore Ravens
This defense will never get off the field because they play 'bend-not-break' defense rather than an aggressive one. Could be because we don't have the personnel but I sure don't like that style of defense. -
24-16 Ravens.

Yup. Nothing but crickets.

Maybe they've seen the light this time: "Offensive Coordinator Gary Kubiak’s scheme is focused around having balance. He has long stressed the importance of running the ball, and he likes to line up in the same formation and call either passes or runs out of it to disguise intentions. “The best thing for our football team and for us is to be balanced and for us to be unpredictable and not sit back there and throw it too much, because if we’re doing that, we’re probably in a bad situations,” Kubiak said. “We’re always looking for the balance, and I’ve got to do a better job than I did last week with that.”
-
Every time they do that, I wonder why and yet they keep banging their head against the wall. Don't the coaches learn from past mistakes?
-
Very true, Nado. I bet every team has boards that do the same. Speaking of which, whatever happened to 'thestellhurtin'? Haven't seen him since the day we killed Pitts.
-
Definitely agree about McPhee!
-
That's how I see it. I don't know how long it might take Webb to rebound and I hope Hill is as good as he's cracked up to be. He will have been out of live action for 6 weeks. And then there's this: CBSSports.com, Pete Prisco: No. 13 (dropped six spots)“They are having problems defending the pass, ranking 27th in the league. That has to be fixed.”
-
That was the blunder that killed us.

I do think the very weak secondary we have is contributing to Pees to be a very passive coach (but even last year he was passive). It cuts down on the ability to be creative about blitzing. The secondary won't straighten out until and if Webb gets it back together. No Webb=A long season and no playoffs.
-
Didn't remember that. Could have hit him hard yesterday. He's a great guy with a ton of talent. We need him, badly. He's also got to stop letting the double coverage get into his head. I'm really pulling for the guy. Hurst too.
-
I'm not ready to throw Hurst under the bus just yet. He's an undrafted rookie playing in his second game. Wagner sat for a year before he started and that really did him some good. Like has been suggested, I think KO's gimpy knee made it harder for him to help him too. Pags was the best DC we ever had; even better than Rex. I've been disgusted watching how UN-intimidating our defense is under Pees. They play bend don't break and stay on the field too long. Having said that I will say the D wasn't the reason we lost yesterday. If you had told me a week ago we'd limit the Colts to 20 points I'd have expected a good day for the Ravens. Me too. I couldn't believe what he was doing. We needed to put points on the board. Instead we proved we STILL can't gain a freaking yard for a first down.

He can sue all he wants. I don't give a s--t.
-
What I said was, he has been paid millions. If he's squandered it that fast, why should I care? He can sue all he wants and it doesn't matter a rat's ass to me if he wins or loses.
-
We have no idea what this guy has done with his money. Either way, he's been paid and I could care less about him now.
-
He can live off the millions he got for bonus money. I think any of us could.
-
Actually, Marvin Lewis started it. Rex enhanced it and Pags rejuvenated it after we had a poor defense under Mattison (I think that was his name...he left for a college job). I'm not a fan of 'bend don't break' defenses because it keeps the D on the field too much and wears them out by the 4th quarter (as it did last year). It's also a very passive philosophy. I like aggressive defenses that attack instead. Our Defense has made 1 interception in 4 games and that was a freak thing by Ngata. Now, perhaps Pees feels we don't have enough talent to be aggressive. Could be true in the secondary.

Shipley is playing C for Indy, his natural position. We had him playing out of position at Guard because we were shorthanded with KO and Yanda hurting. I understand Indy is happy with his play at C, so we'll have to see how things shake out on Sunday.
-
Agree. If we can keep their offense off the field with a punishing rushing attack and play action passes, we'll be alright.
-
I think Pags is blowing smoke up our ass. But those stats about points allowed and redzone are impressive. But not scary. In fact the last defense the Ravens had a D that I'd call scary was Pags' when we had blitzers coming from every direction and getting through or faking it and dropping back into coverage. That kept other teams off balance. Remember when our Defensive philosophy was 'Organized Chaos"? I really miss that.
-
Absolutely agree. I hope he's working with Campanero for our future, Smith's YAC is something to see,
-
Tough call. Logic tells me it's a loss but my gut is saying it's a win, 30-28 Ravens.
-
Amen, brother. I guess 'elite' is a term that doesn't apply for NFL quarterbacks. Shows once again how football is a team sport.
