All these receivers

Speaking of tough calls, I see Camp coming up with a mysterious injury for IR. Doubt if they can sneak him to the practice squad.

OFFENSE: WR Michael Campanaro

The receiver from Wake Forest continues to impress during training camp, and his acceleration was on display during individual receiver drills. When it came to running double moves, Campanaro looked fluid, and his cuts were biting coming in and out of his breaks. He simply flies out of his release off the line.

Campanaro also showed off his body control on a diving catch near the sideline during live action. He was able to find a soft spot in coverage and got behind the underneath defender.

On another play, the rookie caught a short, underneath square-in pass and dashed past defenders in the open field, ripping off some serious yards after the catch (YAC).

Yeah, they somehow need to keep Campanaro BUT they should give him more in-game action to see if he's the real deal.

They won't risk it, losing him, if they plan on putting him on the practice squad. When he has played, he rarely has shown anything close to what he supposedly does in practice.

Then they better IR him, practice squad players can be had by other teams

Maybe five, but 6? Last year they kept 5, which is their average save for a couple of seasons where they carried 4. They carried 8 offensive lineman last year, this year's crop is not worth 8 but you need depth, good or bad. Six on the defensive line, last year they carried 10 linebackers, not sure they keep that many this year, but they might. Two quarterbacks for sure, they carried five runningbacks last year, I think they just go with four this year, they are all playing very well. Three tight ends for sure...

They had 11 in the secondary last year, should hold the same this year given the youth, injury history and lack of true quality. Throw enough at the wall, something will stick.

3 specialist, so that is 52, minimum, leaving 1 spots open team wide.

So let us see, Smith, Smith, Jones, Brown and I think Aiken for sure. Aiken, as I said, has been very good blocking, routes and shown good hands. Next pre season game I expect him to get more reps with the first team to see how well he can do with a real quarterback throwing to him.

So that last roster spot comes down to which position needs it more, with the safeties being subpar so far, the injuries at db and the lack luster play as well, this should be interesting.

You have had some season enders in other places on the roster so 6 might sneak in.

Ir him, why? He, if not for the Ravens, would have gone undrafted, has not shown, in games, he is anything other than average at best. I don't see a team, baring a season ending injury to all of their slot receivers, taking him off the practice squad. I think some people are making too much of him, expecting too much of him.

Because the Ravens have a reputation for finding gems, I believe our practice squad is looked at by 31 other teams.

Gems yes, just not at wide receiver. Tell me, when have the RAVENS, here in Baltimore, ever developed a wide receiver? When has one ever been taken off the practice squad and gone on to do anything in the NFL? Of all the positions, Ozzie strikes out on receivers. Now this appears to have changed with the play of Smith and Brown, but they also had the teachings from the likes of Boldin and both attended the Cris Carter camps over the past few years, so some of that is not accredited to Ozzie's staff.

Bear in mind that you'd be hard-pressed to find former practice squad receivers looking like stars these days at all. It's just too difficult a position.

exactly, which is why I doubt the Ravens, if they plan on putting him on the ps, would "find and injury" for him........ And Crav, I am not down on Oz, my point was that there is no reason to worry about putting him on the ps based on your statement.....

I'd rather them IR him, then ps him, if they see something they like in him and he doesn't fit our team then why even chance another team grabbing him up.

And I'm positive we have his players on IR in the past,

Kamar Aiken and Jeremy Butler

After having a good game against the 49ers, the two were virtually invisible against the Cowboys, catching one pass for 10 yards.

That's why one has to watch the tape and why more goes into being a receiver than just how many catches or drops. Aiken, and Butler to a lesser extent, were able to get off press coverage, get open and both did well blocking in the run game. Without receivers blocking, there are no long runs.

Getting open doesn't do you any good if your not catching the ball or if it isn't being thrown to you.

That's just it, both have been catching the ball well, with their hands mind you, in traffic all camp long. However, when your play with the 2nd string quarterback most of the time, you don't get many thrown your way nor if they are, in the same stratosphere.

Put Campenera on the practice squad. Nobody will pick him up. He's 5'8* 185 pounds, injury prone, hasn't shown a thing this preseason and would have remained undrafted were not for the Ravens. Still don't understand this pick. To trade 2 of next year's precious dradt picks to get this guy boggles my mind. This is not an Ozzie move. This feels more like a DeCosta or Bisciotti move. Not good.

But Ozzie spent extra to get him.

After reading the Sun article about Biscioti's influence on draft day, I've started to wonder if this was solely an Ozzie or Acosta move. You'll have to admit trading 2 of next season's draft choices to get back into this season's draft to get this guy was waaaaaay too reckless especially for a Ravens organization that prides itself on making the right moves at the right time.

I dont know about being wreckless, but remember back in February we were all informed by the pundits of how deep this draft was, and next years not so deep..So if that turns about to be true, then next year this time, it will have been a smart move..
