dc.
Anything more annoying than listening to a crew glorify a play that was called back and ultimately later deemed illegal in many ways? Not that I can think. How often do they do a second half follow up on a play that technically didn't happen, was not controversial, and did not involve a score? Even as the official was calling it back they were oohing and aahing over the genius of Manziel and Shanahan... It was a gimmick.
papasmurfbell
The officiating crew didn't know it was illegal. Now is West had not shifted and the play stood. That would have been a beautiful controversy for the NFL right now.
Robjr83
It involved Johnny Football so they're going to slobber over it.

vmax
That broadcast crew sucked. What was missed was Smiths late hit out of bounds on Manzel.
dc.
I saw the got but didn't think much of it as Manziel seemed to be engaging there too, not letting go. Good no call in my mind.

Tornado700
That's the scary part.I think the refs got faked out just like the Ravens did. This play was so outrageous, I'm shocked a professional football team on any level would even try it. This was not a trick play, it was out and out cheating. Shame on the Browns. Robjr83
I remember Beleicheat using a similar play... I think Welker ran to the sidelines than out for a pass ....I think it was a fake FG.
dc.
Not much different in my mind from Peyton Manning's old pretend to call a time out and talk to the official while a direct snap goes to the rb. All just cheap if not officially illegal.
oldno82
Actually, it's an old play I believe originally called 'the sleeper play' and goes back at least to the '50s.

TBird
ILMAO - I haven't seen that play since sand lot ball in jr hi school. It worked for us and won the game. All of us would be LOL if Ravens did it and it worked.

papasmurfbell
The refs should know the rules better than the coach. The coach is there to get the players in a place to win. The refs are there to know the rules and keep the game fair.

papasmurfbell
I will bet I can go through the rule book and find a rule that Harbs has no idea of. If you believe Harbs knows every rule then you are nuts.

papasmurfbell
Sure he would. He would think that something was legal but it turns out it wasn't. I bet 99.9% of football watchers didn't know you had to have your shoulders perpendicular to the LOS.
