varaven45 Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Given Brady's recent restructuring of his contract (and freeing up much cap room), I wonder if Joe might follow suit ? I don't suspect he would but what an opportunity to help make this team better, plus help free up $ to acquire some weapons . Just sayin. Quote
OutsideRzAcE Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Brady isn't the breadwinner in his marriage so it's no big loss for him. Gizelle pulls in a lot of $$ off her modeling and advertising deals. Quote
Robjr83 Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Brady's also had multiple paydays. Ngata/Webb should be the first ones to deal with. PItta will have a 6mil hit too I guess they could IR him or maybe he'll retire. Joe's cap hit is the less next year then this year. 2016 they'll have to do something. http://www.spotrac.com/rankings/nfl/2015/cap-hit/afc/north/baltimore-ravens/limit-25/ Quote

Gizelle pulls in a lot of $$ off her modeling and advertising deals. Good points- her weekly paycheck probably covered their NE castle and moat system. I suspect Brady's paycheck is like a rainy day fund and covers beer and wine. All kidding aside, if nothing else, Brady's example offers the possibility for some serious contract restructuring and free agent acquistions. Imagine, for just 1 minute, how this team might have fared had we snagged a CB like Aqib Talib or Revis this year. Unrealistic ? Maybe, but this team needs to do some serious contract work to posture itself for a FA playmaker, rather than picking up the leftover 2nd or 3rd tier player in August. If this team wants to remain and or compete for relevancy, the FO needs to wake up and smell the Java. Quote
Spen Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I'm sure all parties involved knew that there would be a restructuring requested after 2015. I don't see it being a surprise or problem. If it is there is only one solution. Quote
vmax Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I don't like restructuring too many contracts. That's a quick path to Cap Jail and mediocrity. A few is ok, but not for large amounts of money to create Cap. You can't buy a Super Bowl these days. The Ravens are OK because they don't do this. Quote
varaven45 Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Max, enough to free up space and acquire a game changer on offense and defense- something we currently don't have. Then supplement with an effective draft. Quote

varaven45 Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Money, Correct. We need to acquire a FA or two. Quote
OutsideRzAcE Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 All game changing players will be gone by the time we pick, its been that way for the past 7 years. Twice in that span a team has traded just ahead of us to take a playmaker (Gronkowski and Dez Bryant0. We need to be more aggressive and trade up if someone slips to with a couple spots of where we are drafting. Same way we jumped up to ensure we got Flacco. Quote

That was all in 1 draft and I think we can all agree the 2010 draft was a historically bad one for the Ravens. We at least got some good in Pitta and Jones, but now that's come to an end. BTW...you could also point out that NE drafted Hernandez one spot before us as well, so at least chalk one up for the good guys. Quote
tsylvester Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 All game changing players will be gone by the time we pick, its been that way for the past 7 years. Not true Crav, there are plenty of game changers, receivers NFL ready, better than last year's class, in this coming draft. From White who should go at 15 or so, to Parker from Louisville, who should be there in the 20's to several who will go in the 2nd & even 3rd round. I am talking legit, speed, size, hands like glue great route running with quicks, receivers. None of which the Ravens have or have had since 1996.... Quote
cravnravn Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 1996 is not a fair comparison, we had two #1 wrs out there, too bad vinny couldn't hit the side of a barn. If we pick 25 to 32 nd we are not getting a wr of #1 caliber. Quote

thesteelhurtin Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 I think a qb who shall not be named will give a team that shall not be named a break. Said player loves to win and said its tough to win when he counts for 18 million. Quote

Said player loves to win and said its tough to win when he counts for 18 million. It's not as if they are giving up money, they are just get a fresh big check and pushing other, possible monies, into the future usually into reachable insentives. Sure he is due $18 mil next year cap cost, but give him all 18 up front, and spread it out over 3 more years, nothing lost on the players side. Quote
