thesteelhurtin Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Yeah that's nuts I thought the Steelers getting 5th for Holmes was bad but damn. Quote
colincac Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 First off I'm gonna miss the guy, fantastic player with the best hands I've ever seen and a guy you really can't replace totally. We're really going to need Pitta and Dickson to make big leaps next year to help that. Secondly though I love the move in light of what I had read recently. With the cap crunch going on throughout the league there are a lot of veterans on the market who are replacement-level skill and will come at cheap prices (see this great Grantland piece http://www.grantland...agent-landscape). Instead of cutting him and saving $4 million while losing $2 Mil in dead money (correct me if I'm wrong on that), we now get a 6th round pick (a spot Oz has shown he can find valuable players on cheap contracts) and save the whole $6 Million in cap space. In this market, $6 Million can get us a player even better than Boldin. Quote
vmax Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 He burned the 49ers so bad they looked past his age and speed. If they swallowed his whole contract then this is great for the Ravens and Boldin. No way he would get $6 to 7.5 mil on the market this year. Quote
oldno82 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I don't like it a bit! They had the cap space to keep him and he's been very productive and loyal. I can't name another receiver off the top of my head that can fight for the ball like he does. And what WR receiver do we have now who is tough enough to go over the middle? Looks like a return to out routes only. And what message does it send to the rest of the team? And a 6th round draft choice? Is that the best deal they could get?? I'm gonna miss him! Quote
varaven45 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Numbnuts deal for us. I guess Tanden Doss becomes our physical possession guy now ! Damn. That's frightening as hell ! Quote
cravnravn Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 6th rd picks dont make the team...Bad trade Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Smart move. Either get something or nothing. They got soemthing. The Ravens have had success in the 6th also. 1 Quote
colincac Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Bottom line is if we didn't trade him he was getting cut. Great trade in that regard. Quote
vmax Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Hey...the Ravens are keeping their post Super Bowl string going. They got rid of Dilfer after their first one.Now...release a key player who got them their second Super Bowl. It's now a Raven tradition. They did get something for him:Cap relief....bigtime. Here's where they lose. They have nobody who can come close to replacing him. Then you have to factor in their past history of FA WR's. Other than Boldin and Mason, it's a long list of embarrassing busts. Quote
cravnravn Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I guess, Im just seeing how much we are saving cap wise, we get an additional 6 mil? that'll work.. Quote
colincac Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 From what I read his salary was $6 Million but his cap figure was $7.5. I assume with trades that shifts 100% to San Fran. Someone correct me if you read something different. Quote

Minny fans upset they didn't offer their 6th and that hurts us as well, about 20 spots better and not as big of a title-contender. Quote
cravnravn Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Boldin should retire, he should be embarassed at a 6th rd trade value Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Or he goes to try and prove the Ravens were wrong about trading him. Quote
vmax Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 At least he's not in the AFC.I wish him well. He was an incredible playmaker to watch...great blocker too.... Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Ozzie made sure he would not have to see him. Smart call on all counts. It cost Ozzie a 3rd and 4th and 3 yrs later they get a 6th. Quote
varaven45 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Max, Hit it right on the head. 2nd major debacle - behind Dilfer deal. Without a serious possession dude, the O Line, Rice and Pierce better get their arses ready for some heavy smash mouth running next year. Quote
vmax Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) Ozzie made sure he would not have to see him. Smart call on all counts. It cost Ozzie a 3rd and 4th and 3 yrs later they get a 6th. They also got Arthur Jones in the Boldin deal. Arizona gave them their 5th round pick. Edited March 11, 2013 by vmax Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 OK I remember that now. Still a reasonable depreciation on him. Quote
varaven45 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 They also got Arthur Jones in the Boldin deal. Arizona gave them their 5th round pick.Yeah but they still have a huge void - And all they get is a sixth round pick ? I say the front office screwed up royally but will never admit it. Not drinking the purple kool-aid on this one. Ozzie and the FO better have one HELLUVA draft in April ! Quote

Other than Torry Smith they can't draft #1 receivers. They can move Pita out wide and throw to Rice more....that's about it.And Jones?.....he had the big plays in the playoffs but he's not a chain moving guy. papasmurfbell Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Hey Tommy Streeter is still on the roster. Quote
cravnravn Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Jones, Smith we'll get someone in the draft or FA... Quote
