You can't call Joe's a bad contract. Yet, if he plays like he just did this season then you can, you have to pay your star Qb it's a fact in this league, Joe's contract is only guaranteed 62 mil, look around the league Eli , romo, Ryan, stafford, they all have contracts with more guaranteed money then joe does

I just hope that when it's all said and done, that Joe will have earned it. I agree with you, it was one bad year, but all the way around. Let time decide this issue.

Joes deal is like Romo. Not smart. Owners need to put their foot down on these guys and make it so if you are a difference amker you get real big bucks. If you are a cog in the machine of the offense you get cog money.

I misinterpreted your post then. You said bad in your first post which gave me the implication this team needed three years to clear up contracts to compete. You said big in your second post. I apologize for missing the subtle change there.

I was just showing large deals and how much they take. Not all of them are bad.

I think it was talked about last offseason that Joe's contract was basically 3 years as after that the cap number escalates to a point that the Ravens will not be able to afford any other decent players. If Joe continues to struggle because he either doesn't have an O-Line or elite receivers to bail him out then Ozzie can simply go to him and say, "Look Joe, your not good enough to carry a team on your shoulders. We need some of that salary of yours to upgrade the O-Line and/or receivers to help you out. Will you take a more manageable salary to help us out?"

If Joe says no, you trade him. If he says yes, will then you still have your franchise QB and have a lot more cap room to help him out. Joe will still get paid but more on par with what he is actually worth.

The headline figures of that contract make it look terrible but the first 3 years are/were manageable and to be honest the FO had no choice but to pay him. Could you imagine letting another Superbowl winning QB depart the season after winning the Superbowl and Joe is many times >>>>>>>>> Dilfer. It would have been a catastrophe.

Who would trade for him at that point? If he proves he is not a great player then other teams know it too.

It doesn't mean that he won't be a good player, just not worth the contract we have him on but teams will be willing to take on the salary because they don't have to pay guaranteed money. There will always be QB needy teams willing to take a shot with him.

I refuse to believe the way Flacco played in the playoffs was a fluke. He's not on par with Manning/Brady/Rodgers, but he's by no means a bust or overrated.

Re establish the line/run game and you get Joe back. Brady and Manning always have lines protecting them, regardless of run games.

They will not eat that high pay while getting that contract.

Here are his base salaries then.

I don't think the contract situation is bad at all. The Suggs and Ngata deals are easy to get out of. Unless you consider the Flacco and Rice deals bad, we are in good shape. Fix the line and Flacco and Rice will perform a lot better. I also think Webb will return stronger next year. The Steelers are in much worse shape. We've never had to push contract forward by restructuring like a lot of teams have. This was our rebuilding year, maybe one more year max and we'll be right back in it.

The steelers aren't really in that bad of a position. They aren't losing much on offense and will be in the no huddle all next year btw since they went to the no huddle they were 4th in the league in scoring.

Ravens 2012-2013 Super Bowl XLVII (47)

Baltimore Ravens 34 – San Francisco 49ers -31

Led by Coach John Harbaugh, this Ravens team has to be one of the most resilient teams; overcoming injuries, a coaching change and players overcoming family tragedies. Quick take: Ravens get hot at the end of the season and Ray Lewis’ retirement announcement (final ride) gives the team a sense of urgency in the playoffs. Quarterback Joe Flacco proves all the “experts’ and doubters wrong by playing his best football on the road in the playoffs and in the Super Bowl. Flacco is awarded Super Bowl’s Most Valuable Player.

Key players: Receiver Anqan Boldin and WR/KR Jacoby Jones help get the Ravens out to an early lead. Key Rookie: OG Kelechi Osemele, played solid at guard throughout the playoffs and in the Super Bowl. Key veteran: FS Ed Reed who had an interception.

Ravens 2000-2001 Super Bowl XXXV (35)

Baltimore Ravens 34 – N.Y. Giants 7

Led by head coach Brian Billick, the Baltimore Ravens win their first Super Bowl! Defense wins Championships –and what a defense it was: The defensive starting line-up: MLB Ray Lewis, DT Sam Adams, DE Rob Burnett, DT Tony Siragusa, RE Michael McCrary, OLB Peter Bowlware, OLB Jamie Sharper, CB Duane Starks, CB Chris McAlister, SS Kim Herring, FS Rod Woodsen. The Ravens defense was arguably the best defense in the modern era. The defense still holds the record for the fewest points allowed in a 16 game season at 165 points. And in the Super Bowl game the defense didn’t allow a touchdown. MVP was MLB Ray Lewis.

1970 – Baltimore Colts – Super Bowl V

Baltimore Colts 16 – Dallas Cowboys 13

A bit of redemption for this team, who lost to the NY Jets in Super Bowl III.

“Super Bowl V was an American football game between the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Baltimore Colts and the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Dallas Cowboys to decide the National Football League (NFL) champion for the 1970 season. The Colts defeated the Cowboys by the score of 16–13. The game was played on January 17, 1971, at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida, the first Super Bowl game played on artificial turf.”

This team had plenty of notables: QB Johnny Unitas, LB Mike Curtis, DE Bubba Smith, LB Ted Hendrick, TE John Mackey. QB Earl Morrall came in after Unitas was injured. LB Mike Curtis had a key interception to help put the Colts in field goal position to win the game. Rookie kicker Jim O’Brian hit the game winning field-goal with five seconds left.

1959 Champion- Baltimore Colts

Baltimore Colts 31 – NY Giants 16

“The 1959 Baltimore Colts season was the seventh season for the team in the National Football League. The Baltimore Colts finished the NFL‘s 40th season with a record of 9 wins and 3 losses and finished first in the Western Conference, and defeated the New York Giants, 31-16 in the NFL Championship Game, which was the rematch of the previous season‘s classic title game, for their second consecutive NFL World Championship.”

1958 Champion – Baltimore Colts

Know as “The Greatest Game Ever Played”

There is a fantastic site called, Baltimore Colts Mania and features some excellent history and players focused on the 58′ game. They describe:

“The December 28, 1958, championship game against the New York Giants in Yankee Stadium elevated football into the national spotlight. It was the first ever championship game to go into overtime and the first to be televised. The 58′ championship game wasn’t the best game ever played (though it had 13 Hall of Famers in it), but instead was the most important game ever played – showing the excitement of professional football.” http://www.baltimorecoltsmania.com/1958-1959.htm

A dramatic win in overtime, this game in essence, helped put pro football on the map. “History was made when fullback Alan Ameche punched through the line on a one-yard, game-winning touchdown after 8 minutes and 15 seconds of overtime to give the Colts a 23-17 win and the NFL title! ”

TEAMS YOU MIGHT NOT REMEMBER

Between 1983 and 1995 if you were hungry for Baltimore football, you had some alternatives

Baltimore Stars – USFL – United States Football League

1984 Champions, 1985 Champions

“The USFL’s dominant team, the Stars missed out on a clean sweep of league championships by only a two-point loss to the Michigan Panthers in the 1983 title game. By all accounts, the Stars had one of the best operations in the league. Myles Tanenbaum stuck with the league longer than any of the other original owners. General Manager Carl Peterson made sure that little talent escaped the notice of his Stars. Coach Jim Mora guided the Stars to wins in more than three-fourths of their games and seven out of eight postseason tilts.”

GREY CUP – Baltimore Stallions 1995

“The Baltimore Stallions were a Canadian Football League team based in Baltimore, Maryland, which played the 1994 and 1995 seasons. They were the most successful American team in the Canadian Football League during its generally ill-fated expansion effort into the USA, having two winning seasons and a division title. In 1995 they became the only American team ever to win the Grey Cup. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_Stallions”
