Truth: The Ravens made colossal mistake re-signing Flacco

Joe Flacco was bad on Sunday. Outside of 2014, when Gary Kubiak sprinkled his magic pixie dust on the entire Ravens offense, Joe Flacco has been bad ever since he signed a six-year, $120 million deal following the Ravens' Super Bowl win in 2013.

It's hard to fault Baltimore GM Ozzie Newsome for giving Flacco that contract, even if was seen as a massive overpay at the time. You're not going to let your Super Bowl-winning quarterback walk in free agency, after all. However, there is not excusing Newsome for doubling down on Flacco and signing him to a six-year, $150 million extension last offseason. I killed the deal at the time, but now it looks even worse.

The Ravens were able to surround Flacco with a decent set of skill players. Jeremy Maclin and Mike Wallace are a good pair of receivers. Ditto for running backs Terrance West and Buck Allen. Baltimore also has a very good defense. The offensive line is a bit of a mess, but you're not going to build a perfect team when the QB is making that much money. And that's why you pay a quarterback so much money: The good ones can mask a team's weaknesses.

Unfortunately, Flacco is not a good quarterback. He's not even an average one at this point. He's a bad quarterback being paid superstar money. And the Ravens are stuck paying him through 2018.

Damn. National media is starting to really take notice.

Yes, Flacco’s claim to fame has been his playoff performances. We will never forget about his 2012 playoff run, arguably the greatest four game stretch in NFL playoff history. In fact, that’s the performance that inked Flacco’s six-year $120.6 million contract. Since then? Calling Flacco an above average quarterback has been a huge stretch.

Since 2013, Joe Flacco has thrown 80 touchdowns to 61 interceptions with a passer rating of 82.3. That’s beyond mediocre for a guy who signed what was then the largest quarterback contract in NFL history.

Now in 2017, Flacco already has more interceptions than touchdowns through four games (4/6) and is on pace for a career low 2,404 passing yards. His passer rating of 65.0 is ranked 39th among the rest of the league. Last I checked, there are 32 NFL teams, meaning there are seven back-up quarterbacks with a better passer rating than Joe this season.

It is amazing seeing ppl come around to what I have been saying for yrs.

He has had a lot of int's because he was throwing timing routes only to have wide outs late to the spot for being nocked off their routes or running them improperly, this includes the wrong depth.

After several years of this, like training a mouse with shock therapy, one tends to not trust them.

Add to the fact years of them getting slow off the los, struggling to get seperation, get their heads turned around and dropping passes, plus a sieve of a line, yea, trust is lost.

How long would you trust someone to stop slamming a hammer onto your hand after they tell you to reach for a donut?
