tsylvester Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 A very nice take on this 5-1 team, were talking about the say Browns if they were 5-1, I am sure most of you would agree as well. Now, since this is not the Browns, I am sure they not only can, but will "fix" what is clearly broke. They better because the next 5 games are deadly. Quote It’s true that in the NFL, a win’s a win. None of them are easy, no matter what the box score suggests. But Baltimore — a team that, at 14-2, boasted the best record in the NFL last season and aims to make a deep postseason run this season — should have handily dispatched the likes of Cleveland, Washington, Houston, Cincinnati and Philadelphia, who own a combined 8-20-2 record USA TODAY: Opinion: After close call against Eagles, Ravens hardly look like an elite team. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/columnist/mike-jones/2020/10/18/baltimore-ravens-lamar-jackson-philadelphia-eagles/3706461001/ Quote

papasmurfbell Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Most of those teams have zero real chance. Ten should be much higher. If the ravens keep playing lacks football they will get caught in the playoffs like they have the last 2 yrs. Quote

krf82 Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Time to coalesce into an elite team, good team depth, player abilities, minimize injuries, beneficial calls and the bounce of the ball continue to keep the Ravens in this discussion as well as the betting world. Quote

papasmurfbell Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 I guess Buf is elite. They only have a couple losses Taking it like Ned Beatty in the woods last niight on the ground showed just how special that D is. Quote
tsylvester Posted October 20, 2020 Author Posted October 20, 2020 I would take what we see on an early Monday evening game with the same salt we do with these stupid Thursday games...... Same as we should do with the first 4-5 games of this year. With no camp, no preseason and missing practices & fears of covid, as actual preseason even though they count. This bye week could not have come at a better time as said above. Now, can they get things going? Sure, they say that they feel they are close, but words are just words until we put them into action. I do believe the team has used these 4,5 games as preseason as it were, working on just enough in game to win, I think this true for every team this year; what other choice did they have? However, as Papa said, history speaks volumes. One of the issues this team has had is penalties/discipline. That has been true for years, what, we expect Harbs to get that corrected now, especially the offensive penalties. The other major discipline issue was on defense, being out of position, not paying close attention, trying to do their own thing. That too has been an issue for the past few years, we thought it was "fixed" with Jefferson and Thomas jettisoned, maybe they have been and the defense allowing those ridiculous completions in the 2nd half was just being tired or simply looking ahead to the time off/ Pitt in two weeks.. Time will tell. By the end of November we will know all that we need to know about this team, will they be 9-1 5-5 or somewhere in between.... Quote
oldno82 Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 I agree but don't think we'll have to wait that long. If they beat Pittsburgh I'll put them back in elite status. Quote
Spen Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 I think when people look for negatives, they often find them. If one wants to harp on shortcomings, whether big or anything short of perfection - that does not mean that person is more objective or knowledgeable than others. It just means they are more negative. I feel sports radio and or message boards has given a huge rise to the amount of people that think being contrarians makes them look like something more. But again, it's sports. Keep predicting bad things and they will eventually probably happens. It's not as impressive as you think. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 How about the same bad things start being turned around and ficed to become good things that a team can lean on to push to win a championship. Quote
vmax Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 Turn this around and the offense will be fine.... Quote This was the penalty breakdown: three false starts, three holding, an illegal man downfield, an illegal formation and an illegal block. It got so bad Sunday that Baltimore faced a first-and-35 in the second quarter after being flagged on three straight plays.................https://www.espn.com/blog/baltimore-ravens/post/_/id/53443/how-lamar-jackson-and-the-ravens-offense-became-their-own-worst-enemy Quote
GrubberRaven Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 Really curious to see if Stanley gets extended after this season. Take a flier on a LT in the draft. Stanley is going to get money he is not worth. Bigger question is how we cannot draft WRs to save our lives... Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 I would tag and trade him. Don't let him bounce for nothing. Quote

It has amazed since they came here with Jackson & Alexander, since they had to let them walk they haven't been able to draft one. I do think they have some talent good enough, it's just they are not using the routes properly. Ive also noticed on the all 22, that Lamar has not thrown on time to a receiver about to break open or who should get open on his route based on the defense. Instead, Lamar chose to throw elsewhere for no gain because of coverage. Now, the key is, who was the primary? Every qb does this, from time to time, but Lamar does it quite often. Again, we do not know the progression of the routes and Lamar is still young. We see receivers from other teame step in off the street and run routes properly, get open often, easily, make the catch. Yet who does that for the Ravens? How often do we see 3 receivers within five yards of each other? Why is it this offense can't run a freaking screen? Even a wide receiver screen other teams get 8 or more yards on, this team loses yards. No slants, which should work perfectly with this run threat, no come back routes on the outside with all of the speed we now have at wideout. Are they hiding these plays for the playoffs? Quote
oldno82 Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 I don't understand either. But I do think there is talent with Duvernay and Proce on this team that needs game time looking at. I'd forget about Boykin...he's had more than enough time to succeed. Put Duvernay in there. Put Proce in there. Together. At the same time. At least Brown is getting open but what happened to our downfield passing game? Is it over with for the year? Why? Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 Give Stokley credit. He was good. HE could have been a quality WR here for a while. But I dont know it is just scouting. I see great WRs come here and their production drops. In Q's case it went right back up after he left. That is a coaching issue. Quote

Unless someone develops quickly I think this is one of the worst groups of WRs in the league. Brown gives me hope, a few times he has been coming back to help Lamar when he's been in trouble. That's good to see. I'm not sold on him as a #1 though. Might not be all Boykin's fault but he and Lamar are not on the same page. Figure it out quickly or give his reps to someone else. We still have time to develop a decent passing game using the WRs instead of just the TEs. Hopefully we do. If not Lamar is going to get killed and the playoffs, assuming we make it, will be tough. Oh well at least its not like our WR cast-offs make much noise anywhere else. Quote
varaven45 Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 Its undoubtedly talent and coaching. We miss year after year, decade after decade. We just haven't figured it out. Other than the two Qs (Qadry and Anquan), what true No 1 have we ever had. Crazy ! Maybe we should pirate away one of the Steelers' scouts/coaches (LOL) It cant be any worse, right ? Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 Smith was a #1 before he got here, Quote
varaven45 Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 Yep, damn good WR; too bad we got him on the back end of his career. Imagine he and the two Qs on the same team ? Quote
