  1. True, they never have and I am not saying he will be the first. But looking at the improvements he made since he has been here, how hard he works and his skill set, one could see (and Harbs agrees) he could easily be the first. As I said a few posts up, I understood if this was over him not be a special teams player, and they needed the roster spot. However, they signed a special teams player who can't play receiver...
  2. They could develope one, especially with the touch backs starting at the 25. Punt returns, granted, a bit more tricky, but they could have managed. When\if Hester gets hurt, what then?
  3. Too young at too many positions, not enough talent on defense, while I think the receivers are good, age, inconsistency, injury history has me skeptical. 7-9, maybe 9-7.
  4. Maybe if this was a legit Super Bowl contender. But he struggles to stay healthy and this team, right now is bbarely a play off team..
  5. So much for their first reasoning being special teams contribution... Now Harbs says it was to make room for Hester... Sorry, if that is the real reason they are not very bright and would explain why they can't even get video reviews right... Were this a legit super bowl contender, I could understand their need for a "premiere" return man. But an often injured, bad wheel, aging vet who can only contribute on special teams over this hard working young receiver? No chance...
  6. He was an up & coming receiver, nothing more at this point. Since he ws not in the top 2 or 3 at his position, what means he has to be able to make up for his roster spot; special teams. So far, all he has done is take full advantage of beating guys who will likely not be starters at best, flipping burgers at worst. When he has played over the past 2 years, in the regular season, he rarely got separation, struggled with running his routes properly, and did drop some key passes. Yes, he has shown flashes, but that is all they are at this point. The team can still sign him off of the Bucs' practice squad if they want, but who does he replace on this roster? What other position, that most likely only has one maybe 2 back ups, are you going to pillage? This team is not good enough to carry 7 wide outs.
  7. And? He is no good on special teams. They needed the roster spot to cover other positions.
  8. They have to be released and clear waivers before they can be signed to the practice squad. He likely feela he has a better chance to play on Tampa rather than here... Frankly, he might be right. Even when Smith sr, or if, he gets hurt again, Butler would be behind several other players.
  9. Ill say what I said in the links forum. I hope he works out better than the other over the hill, hall of fame return guy with a bad toe.
  10. Not sure why, he can't catch, can't field punts nor kick offs, is neither fast nor quick. Other than that, he is a great guy....
  11. First post in the thread. A first next year, a conditional 4th in '18.
  12. Only two real surprises, so to speak, Forsett and Butler..
  13. Sure you can, that is too much to give up for an often injured not accurate never was....
  14. Wow, I am curious to see who they keep over him.
  15. Would be nice, but I question if he can stay healthy for a full season and the last time the team signed an aging future hall of fame return man with a bad toe, it did not work out so well...
  16. Such a shame. He showed great potential, he just wasn't consistent.
  17. Give up first rounder in next year's draft and, an undisclosed 2018 pick... They are nutz.
  18. Add to that, the defense was not truly playing as a unit so much as playing for a roster spot.
  19. I could live with either as back up. Mallet really seems to have matured and his teammates love him. Johnson appears to have finally "found it" after eight years. They both throw the ball well, move well in the pocket. Johnson obviously has more to offer as a running threat. Teams have seen him for so long they know what they will get with him. While with Mallet, the biggest issue was immaturity, if he has "grown up", he would be worth more.
  20. I am very pleased with the young depth along the defensive line, 2, 3 deep at each position if we count the players who can play multiple positions. Quarterback, also very pleased, Mallet or Johnson will do a fine job should they be needed. Running back, also a solid position, good hands for the passing game, quickness, agility in the running game, 3, 4 deep if healthy. Fumbles and picking up the blitz bothers me a bit, but they are young.... Wide outs, a solid group there, speed, size, quickness, and, dependable hands, 5 almost 6 deep; Finally... Offensive line, solid starters, some depth (1 maybe 2 players) at guard/center, but no depth at either tackle. That is scary. Line backers, I am not sold on this group to cover man to man, even in zone they are late to get depth or width. They also tend to run around blocks, leaving big holes in the running game. They do blitz well.... Corners- ouch, a big, big ouch. Perhaps the biggest concern, the biggest question on the team. As a group they are a penalty waiting to happen, an expected big play per every 3 downs, expected.... Safeties- all I can do is shake my head. Weddle is all right, but either he lost a step or was just holding back a bit in the pre season. It was nice to see Brooks flying around last night, he showed excellent speed and awareness. I don't know if he did enough to make the team though. Sadly, none of them can cover very well. They seem to always be out of position, but hey, they can tackle.... It should be an interesting season, a lot of youth on this team, talented youth at every position. Moore has to stick, kick returner is his job hands down and he really fights for the ball when on offense. They may have to keep six receivers this year or trade one. If they try to sneak one onto the practice squad, they will be taken off waivers by some one. I have no expectations for wins or losses, this truly is a year to sit back and see what the young bucks can do....
  21. Ambo + air cast implies compound fracture. All they are saying right now is assumed a knee and for sure, likely very serious. The players were so shaken they cancelled the rest of practice, had only been going for 20 mins. Even so, likely a knee and they were just being overly cautious.
  22. No details yet, but he is being taken to the hospital in an ambulance, reportedly, a non-contact injury. Odd, air cast & ambo, for a non contact injury..... Hmmm
  23. He who shall not be named expects to play against the Saints (who plan to play their starters) Thursday night...
  24. So much for that "sack master"
  25. Signed a 4 year deal, offset language stays (Chargers win) they up the money in years 2, 3, & 4. Bosa "wins"....
